My wife and i are looking to retire to Roatan, on the various sites we have looked at it states retirement income per month to be $1500. So is that $3000 per month for a couple?.

I don't know why you would live on a hot/humid island when you could retire in the mountains with much better weather and lower cost of living. We lived in Honduras for two years and traveled a lot. We found that the altitudes of 3400 feet and higher were very comfortable year round. No need for a/c.    Roatan will get very unpleasant in the hot season and you are on a tourist island where everything is more expensive.    Thoughts?

Make sure that you can prove that you have a retirement income. Bring down a valid police record that you have not committed any crimes and you may have to visit the Honduran consulate in your country to register. If you want to know of an honest attorney, (most are despicable thieves), then send me a private message to honduras94@yahoo.com If I mention him on the blog they go spastic!!   http://honduras.usembassy.gov/acs_hondresid.html   There is an excellent pdf. file that says everything, but it is in Spanish! I have lived in Honduras since 1980, and permanent residency has become much more expensive and complicated. When you get your official card you can get a 25% discount on almost everything, restaurants, hotels, buses, etc.

Deear Lost Sock:

The Migration Laws of Honduras state that a Retired person may apply for Residency on a US$1,500.00 monthly pension and that allows the applicant to obtain the same benefit for his/her spouse.
In other words, You only need to prove the monthly pension of no less than US$1,500.00 per month for one.

http://honduras.usembassy.gov/acs_hondresid.html   You will need an attorney for this. If you write me at honduras94@yahoo.com I will provide one, but do not want anyone to go spastic by mentioning him in this correspondence!

You need to prove the $1500.00 and get residency which you will need an attorney. http://honduras.usembassy.gov/acs_hondresid.html  Write me at honduras94@yahoo.com if you want a recommended attorney, because 99.9% are thiefs!
