Looks like you got a nice new car, :0) do I get a ride in it if I come to Trip?
Sure man...just holla at me and I'll show you around if you like. Yea I just bought it like 20 days ago.
Sea Angel wrote:That's great if you get to do rotations. How long are you here and how long gone for?
Yes the rotations sound very attractive 'cause I've never been to Europe, so now's me chance... :0)

P.S.: Anyone into the scuba diving around the Tripoli area? Is it popular among the ex-pats in the region? I'm dying to learn and so I think I might try taking that up / looking into that hobby as well...except I get only one (1) day off a week (!)

if you just can discover the truth and find out who was behind this situation, you would feel ashamed of your US government. this country was isolated for around 10 years under the AMERICAN sanctions. another main reason is something hard for you to believe and can not be mentioned here.
by the way, if you just stop repeating 'they are jealous' stereotype thing, coz sounds really funny.

Our employees are accommodated in our camp located in Benghasier, Tripoli.
And, that's pretty much all that I know... !

Were those the only pictures that they sent you?
YUP!
Can't you get more of what you will be living in?
Yes, I would agree, it would seem they should provide me more details about the accommodations. I mean they don't even have a pic of the inside of the suites?! But, then again, it's a fine line to walk: If I am perceived to be bitching or asking too many questions, then maybe they will just withdraw their offer. And, after all, if I'm busy working in the Oil & Gas Industry for 6 days a week, I'll be pretty busy and I won't really need like "a palace" to stay in since wifey won't be here either, and I'm all by myself...and, the fact that I get three (3) weeks off every two months, well, what can you say about that? ...It's really not a bad deal at all...
In short...I'm afraid to ask them too many questions for fear that they might get pissed off at me, and then withdraw the offer! lol!

Ok, I am not a Libyan National as I've been saying it before, I was born in Libya only....so your comments are not going to the right person. I am just a person who respects a country which has offered me alot and think others should respect in the same way. I do understand there is whole lot of other things not going the right way as you said and I totally respect your views.

Adnankpk, you are taking things too personally. Read the post again. I did not say you or your name. And don't get me wrong, I understand we are all different human beings. It's just the culture here and the thinking and attitudes is just a different way of life that I have to get used to and I will.
I do not think Libyans are horrible people. I have met some nice ones. We have our own white -- any kind of trash.
When you read everyone's posts, don't take it so personal unless they direct it at you. LOL

Lets imagine that the reason you know is true, would it justify putting 7 million ppl under a siege? If you are a Fox news or a US media listener, then there is no point of me continuing this conversation, coz you wont get my point.
First you need to depend on your own judgment and your own opinions not your media or your governments
Sea Angel, there are lots of other trusted sources of inforamtion that can tell you a different story from what you are hearing over there in your country.
You can't blame people without knowing what they have been going through for the last few decades.

You brought up the past. And that's not the reason your country is where it is today.
I do not live in the past. If people/countries do, they will never get ahead -- (get it). I live in the present.
The past is History. The future is a mystery. And the present is a gift. Move on. Forget the past. We can ping pong back and forth for a life-time who did what, when, etc.

I do feel for the people and understand. But the people have the opportunity now and SOME -- is that better -- still do nothing.
And again just so you know, we do not just sit around talking about the past. We are a busy nation and have better things to do than just sit on the streets with our buddies drinking coffee. That's the present.
mancunian wrote:by the way, if you just stop repeating 'they are jealous' stereotype thing, coz sounds really funny.
You know they are
Well folks, for anyone still following this forum blog, my new employer, who does oil & gas engineering consulting work for WOC (Waha Oil Company), who had previously offered me a job in Tripoli, has now come back to tell me that my mobilization has been put "ON HOLD", as they put it, as the Libyan National Oil Company has put a hold on any further expat contractor mobilizations..., they haven't been able to provide me with ANY further details, and they claim that they are just as surpised as me and that they are trying to get more details from their Client... sounds fishy to me ... now I am left hanging...
Anyone care to comment? Is this typical for Libyan work visa politics?
So it looks like maybe I WON'T be coming to Tripoli after all...

Yes

Perhaps they saw the comments on here and decided to stick it to these ungrateful expats.
I'd take the SZR ahead of the highway of death any day
Too bad. Or should I congratulate you?
dachshundman1 what is paris like? My french is not very good
was it hard finding work their I am a mechanical engineer and am looking at moving there I may or may not work
I coudn't stand the French. They lie, and they are sooo stuck up. Don't go buddy. I swear, nobody there is friendly, you'll have a terrible time...I did, and you will too if you go. It's totally different going there for work vs. going there on a holiday...that's all I have to say on the topic. Take my advice. Trust me, you'll be miserable there if you go...
Well your certainly honest with your opinion I must assume that your not in France anymore and for your sake I hope your not in Tripoli I wonder if there was any civil unrest there when you were thinking of moving that situation is going to keep oil prices high for some time. So where are you now? What's the work like there?
So I am going out to Calgary in a couple days, emailed Bretsky about beers for his birthday. Says to me have you heard back from Johnny. I say no, he says I hear he moved to Addis Ababa ethiopia.
I say WOW!
So I google your name and am led here.
Ever coming back to visit your buddies?

I'm curious about whether you feel the same way about America, now that the Americans helped us free our country.

I'm curious about whether you differentiate between countries and people, now the AMERICAN GOVERNMENT ,not the Americans, helped us, and this government had different agenda and nothing is free in politics, so do not be emotional and treat them as heroes, we appreciate what the current government did and still believe it is not for free, and still blaming the previous governments for that they did to us.

My friend there's a price to pay everywhere you go nothing is free, in Libya's case it's the oil. Look at Syria nothing being done there so fast (DO THEY HAVE OIL?) NO! the reaction would be lettem ***k their country up!
