Importing car to Mauritius from UK as "returning" citizen

I'm moving to Mauritius next month (mid-June) and wish to take my car over from the UK. I have never been to Mauritius before, but I am in the process of applying for my Mauritius passport as I am Mauritian by descent (mother). I have read on this MRA webpage that returning citizens only have to pay 15% excise duty and 15% VAT on importing a car regardless of age or size (30% total tax). However, I've also read on another forum (info-mauritius.com/forum/mauritius-forum-english/car-import-t8924.html) that the value is calculated using the formula: Retail Market Price * 0.75 reduced by 9% for the first month of use and 1% for each subsequent month up to a maximum of 56%My car is Porsche Cayman S and the Parkers Guide retail value is £44,328. This means it would be valued at 44% of this which is £19,504. 30% of this is £5851. Does that really mean I would have to pay £5851 in tax just to import my car into Mauritius?? This seems extortionate. Or have I got my information wrong (I hope)? I've heard that I can pay even less if I have owned the car for more than three years, but I can't find any information on this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jason

Not a problem as you need a good local agent to process all your papers!! It will be useful for you to complete all formalities by applying for a permit with the MRA.

Please could you provide a contact number or email address so I can make proper enquiries. I am in the process of shipping my car to the UK. I have a Maurician passport and am coming to settle, therefore a returning citizen. Is there an age limit of the car I can bring. All Web sites are saying between 12 months to 2 years old. How do I contact Bureau Veritas and also apply for an import permit? Contact details of the Ministry would be great. I've sent an email but no response received.

The local agents you need in Mauritius are called “Courtier Maritime “
They will do all the processes for you as your passport will be utilised to check if you are entitled to bringing a car as a returning resident!!

Hello everyone,

im Callum im half Mauritian and new here on Expat. my father is retiring and moving back to mauritius from the UK. im looking for info about imorting a car from the UK i've checked MRA but couldnt find what im looking for hopefully someone here can help me ?
i read on MRA that you can only bring a 18-48 month old car. what about returning residents as he was born in mauritius does this apply to him as well ? or can he bring any aged car ? and im also looking for info on how much fees will cost on the car duty/VAT etc.
a Mercedes C Class C220D 2.1L Cabriolet (2017) as the car will probably be shipped January 2021 the car will be older than stated on MRA.
