Post new topic

Hello, please tell me can women alone go for shopping, medical centres, hospitals, restaurants in riyadh? I heard that women should come along with male escort everywhere, it's true?

No, that's not true. You can go alone to all these places. However, it is much safer and hassle free if you go with a man.

Yes, You can do shopping alone.
It does seem that men get all the advantages socially (e.g., use of the pool, dining options, etc.); however, if you dig a little you can find that there are options for single women.  Shopping malls are a place where women and men alike go to for socialization.  Shopping malls in Riyadh may not be like the ones from your home country!  Many have small amusement parks for children, restaurants ranging from typical mall fare to the very delicious, and a range of clothing stores.  Every mall has its own personality, with some catering to a more upscale clientele (i.e., Centria Mall) to malls that cater specifically to women.  Kingdom Mall, also known as Mumlikah, has a women’s only floor, and Bushra Ladies Mall is 100% only for women).  In the dining areas of the malls, there are typically family or women only sections.  Malls have various timings, where during certain times of the day only families are allowed entry, meaning no single men allowed during certain hours! Additionally, all malls operate according to the prayer schedule.  So, if you are looking for something to do on a Friday, you can’t go to the mall until after 4pm.

Not true, if anything single guys cant go alone so that they don't bother women. Everything is for women and lots of single guys complain and it was an issue in the press. Til recently, single guys without a female with him in Riyadh could not enter malls except at certain times where nobody  goes to malls (mornings etc). Thank God that changed about a couple of years ago.

A single guy was perceived as "potential trouble/harassment"... a single girl is always someone innocent surrounded us single trouble makers.

A single Saudi girl say goes to a bank or, where theres a long line... someone will come up and have her served first (in no time), because of the "ohhh how can you make a poor woman stand in such a long line? Shameful!"

Not your turn in line but you jump to the casher ahead of a single guy? Chances are no one would say a word. No one would want to argue with a woman in public.

The exception is services used mostly by the working class.
