Been in Riyadh for almost 3 years and just found out that there may be others like me looking to play tennis. I am a USTA rated 4.0+ level player with 4.5 level experience. Originally from L.A., California. Doubles is more fun than Singles. I am good at both. Have Coached and Captained numerous USTA Men and Mixed Team Tennis Teams and also given private lessons, but all I want to do now is play for fun some where in Riyadh.
My wife and I have played Mixed Doubles in the past and wouldn't mind doing it again at the Social level. She's a 3.0+ level player and not intimidated when playing opposite stronger Men or Women players:)
If you look up the network for Riyadh, you can go through the lists of interests and PM those who are interested in tennis.
I did this looking for people whose interests included socialising, meeting new people, etc. I sent 12 PMs and I have had one reply. That was from Willi666 who is 16 and desperately bored.
But I'll persevere. Nothing wrong with the crowd that we have now.
Brilliant bunch.
Good luck.
Wait.. Willy says he is going to 'reincarnate' himself into another name.
Slopez, thanks, I wont take up your offer of tennis. I can be a 'Cheerleader' and speclator - but this outdoor heat in it 48-59 degree range is incompatable with me.
I would be interested in giving tennis a go. I have not played other than tipping around before so would be looking for a club/group with a bit of coaching.
I am only here a week so am still going through the phase of doing everything on offer to try and meet as many folk as possible.
Tennis in very hot environments is usually played starting as the sun goes down. Drink lots of water before, during and after playing tennis.
I was at a function the other night and met a sell-by-date South African rugby player who is wanting to start up a Riyadh Rugby club. I was with another sell-by-date south African rugby ref.
Not sure if you guys are interested in the rugby - can ask the 'ref' to contact you.
Again, I can only be the spectator - no fun for girls here!

So rolling balls at Salwa around was no fun huh, we'll have to try and make it more interesting for you next time.

What does 'sell-by-date' mean in reference to a person?

As you are a tennis man, would you know any where that stocks Babolat racquets and kit?
You can order about anything tennis from tenniswarehouse.com and get it delivered to your compound. By the way, what is "kit"?
'Sell-by-date'...means over expiry date, aged, old.
Salwa - Noooooooo, we are the champions of the Ten pin bowlers- how could I forget. It was the other team who had trouble with their balls.

Especially Salman, he couldn't stay out of the gutter.
Now now.. when I asked about TEAMS, I was told we were playing as individuals. Now suddenly we were TEAMS???
I sure enjoyed rolling those big blue number 15s at Salwa the first time we visited for Daves grand BBQ some months back.
Sparrow, that rugby coach may need a Hookah, I am sure?

Dave @ I believe we all had great fun.
Allie @ It was just divided into teams but we were still challenging each other and Dave got lucky when i took one of his shots. Than i tried my best but still couldn't get thru.
My bad may be next time.
Anil
Anil you cheeky so-n-so. I got lucky when you took one of my shots indeed. I'll drop one of my balls on your toes then see how lucky you feel.
MM the other guy was a hooker a real one, you could tell by his ears....
Next time I spot a cocktail waitress am gonna ask her to show me her ears for sure...
You could tell by 'HIS' ears, MM, he's a rugby player.
Nice one Sparrow.
His ears are the two bits on the side. Yes, he was a real hooker... cos I saw them.
Spock can't smoke in space anymore cos it's not a designated smoking area.
That's no way to talk about Lieutenant Ohurrah (?)
Beam me up Scotty.
Interesting topic but still not a single person interested in playing.
I am always looking to play some tennis although basketball is my main sport now.
If anyone is interested in rallying drop me a message.
Sorry, ziad--we tend to digress and have a bit of fun here
Why don't you scan the treads (or the network) for others who have expressed an interest in physical exercise and drop them a line?? Sometimes you have to be proactive.
there's a very nice tennis playground in intercontinental hotel, before i was learning and practicing there, but now ouuuuuuh i can't play
you can go there and meet the peopel playing there.
yeah intercon is old school...always a good place to go when they have a tennis tournament good place to meet ppl into tennis....
i have started coaching children now and have two young 10 year olds who are learning how to play...one has very good potential which is exciting...
Thinking about maybe offering coaching in compounds as well as i know lots of my friends rarely leave their compounds but would welcome a tennis coach coming to them for lessons...
what do you all think?
Hello Slopez... How r u doing.? Just like you I am also looking for some company for playing tennis. I arrived in Riyad couple of months back. Though I am not a pro in tennis like you but I have got lot of interest in the game. If you r still around in Riyadh kindly let me know
Cheers,
Sam
Hello Sam,
welcome to expat-blog
Please feel free to ask your questions on forum Riyadh.
See you around,
Melissa

I would love to play but am not in Riyadh. If you happen to pass through Khobar and have time, bring your racquet and get in touch. Though I'm currently out of practice, I used play quite a bit.
I noticed in another of your messages that you are thinking about offering coaching in the compounds. This sounds like an awesome idea. I'd like to hear how that turns out.
My wife and I are both 4.0 players and are looking for a match. I am looking for a
Match for myself. I play mostly mens doubles but enjoy singles. Y
Hi! I'm new to Riyadh and looking to make some tennis buddies here soon. I've made one already, so maybe we can play doubles sometime soon. I'm a pretty good player, about a 2.5-3.0, and getting better. If you send me a message, I'll respond ASAP. I'd like to get a regular group going if at all possible.
