Hi everybody,

It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in Malaysia.

Don't forget to mention where in Malaysia you are living.

How much does it cost to live in Malaysia?

> accommodation prices

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

> price of the cinema

Do not hesitate to add items to this list!

Thanks in advance for your participation!!

> accommodation prices
ranges from RM10/day (long-term backpackers) to RM1500 in a condo, and up.

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)
not sure about buses, but trains are usually RM1 < RM3 for around Kuala Lumpur

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)
I am cheap, I can survive if I try to cook instant noodles at home, but approximately RM20 a day if you eat out (in cheap places), 2meals+1drink.

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)
Dunno, my insurance back in NZ is covering me.

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)
??

> energy prices (oil, electricity)
not sure, need to check.

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)
RM110/month internet+internet, no TV, RM50/month mobile.

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant
RM20+ per dish?

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub
RM90/jug (or bottle of 4), RM5-6 per cuppa.

> price of the cinema

> nightclubs entry fees (if any)
RM50+ per person, or around RM300 per table + a bottle.

may I know from some one who can guide me about the cost of house maid in KL, for cooking and cleaning (part time).

Lighthouse

Once a week cleaning would be around 300 per month for 3/4 hours a week. For cooking, you would not really need any as there are enough cheap places around to take-away.

Otherwise, if you are married you can have a live-in maid.
They usually come form Philippines or Indonesia and you take care of immigration, cost of living and pay them around 800 - 1000 MYR per month.

Hello! I've been in George Town on Pulau Penang since March. Recently I began a page of prices on my weblog: http://tenPesos.com/prices-in-malaysia/ I will keep adding to it. Anyone's welcome to comment on it to add costs that they know/have paid.
