Hello Lyn

That's a great thread :top:

You start, tell us 5 places you most love in your country and you think that tourists and expats should not miss?

I love:

Long Beach on koh lanta during high season. Great place to relax and if you love riding a moped then lanta is really great for this and very safe.

Next:

Koh Libong - trang

Really lovely place had a very relaxing time here. I went here after scouring a map for somewhere undocumented on the Web and was very pleased to find the place. Great for complete relaxation.

Bangkok for good grub (food)
24 owls by sometimes - somewhere near ekkamai. If you need a western food fis this place is great and as the name implies. It's a 24 hour joint and very nice ambience.

Udom suk - various restaurants serving great low cout food one place by Brighton suites condos in particular was great and they have karaoke too which was fun to watch.

Bangna mega mall - ok here its like shipping heaven which is not my taste but for another western food fix and I mean the franchise type stuff then you can get a good fix. My fave is sunrise tacos for Mexican and try the hotter sauce - if you dare.

Last place - anywhere that serves top quality chang mai dish khao soi. I tried various places in bkk for this and options seem limited but I am open to try more places in bkk but funnily enough the best khao soi I had was from a restaurant in koh lanta whose reviews on trip advisor say it all. Sadly the lady who made the khao soi moved and restaurant is no longer there. Wherever that chef is, is the best khao soi I ever had and I know 25 people who feel exactly the same. If you know a khao soI specialist I am ready to travel anywhere to sample your recommendations. I ate it at 9-10 places in CM to date.

Thanks

A few of my favourite places in Thailand which tend to reflect where I like to live and visit plus my hobbies.

1. Prachuap Khiri Khan-I lived here for three years. Not Hua Hin! Try the area south of PKK town, one of the best beaches in Thailand is located 2km south-Ao Manao- situated on a Thai Airforce base but accessible to all. Then the coast down to Chumphon, some great beaches/national parks and nice quiet places to live.

2. The Khao Kho area of Phetchabun. A highland area, cool in the hottest times. Beautiful scenery, 2 national parks. Nearby is Wat Phra Sorn Kaew, surely one of the best temples in Thailand. I have lived here for 3 years.

3. Koh Chang Thailand's second largest island but a million miles away from the tourist traps of Koh Samui and Phuket.

4. Mukdahan on the banks of the River Mekong. Great for a visit especially the Indo-China market. Lots of touristy places to visit nearby.

5. Kanchanaburi by train! Lots of WWII history around here, museums, Bridge on the "River Kwai," Erawan national park too.
