Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well.
For more than 10 years, https://www.expat.com has been helping expatriates and those who wish to live abroad by offering a user-friendly participative exchange platform.
During these 10 years, the service has greatly evolved; from a project based on a directory of Expat.coms, we have become a real global participative platform, which we sincerely hope really helps you regularly.
All these changes have been made possible thanks to you, your support, and your participation to the project.
As a logical step in our continuous evolution, I have an important announcement to make.
Please allow me to start with a few thoughts...
... Despite all the positive feelings we've developed for “Expat.com”, particularly myself, well, this name doesn't suit us anymore. We are not a blog, nor a personal website. Being identified with a blog has become inaccurate and doesn't give a true reflection of our community, of the service we've developed, nor our future ambitions. We have become a real social network for those who live or wish to live abroad.
Therefore, thinking about the long run, and in continuity of our constant development,
https://www.expat.com will soon become https://www.expat.com
This change reflects our ambitions :
> we are striving to become a clear leader on the worldwide market ;
> we want to expand the confidence in our activity, thanks to a stronger and more trustworthy domain name ;
> position ourselves as a social network, an essential tool for expats.
Now that I have given a brief explanation about why we are changing our name, you are probably asking yourself "how and when will it happen"? Let me try to answer your questions.
Missions and values
Our name will change but our objectives will remain the same: helping all those who are living or wish to live abroad.
Our core values will continue to be based on helping each other and sharing experiences in a friendly environment, which have shaped our identity.
From the creation of Expat.com, helping each other has been our sole purpose, and this will obviously apply to https://www.expat.com. Respect and friendliness, which we strongly value, are the basics for constructive exchanges.
Our mindset will thus be preserved, just like free subscription so that everyone has access to information and advice.
Expat.com remains Your platform. All the contents which have been shared on https://www.expat.com will remain on https://www.expat.com.
What's going to change?
Visual identity
Our transition to https://www.expat.com will be accompanied by a visual identity change: a new logo, new colours, and a new layout.
We are also doing our best to make the service more intuitive. You'll love it!
New features
We wish to lay emphasis on social features so as to better help expats and to facilitate exchanges among our members.
The key point will be the introduction of our brand new Events section where you will be able to propose/organize outings (sports, museums, have a drink, and more), invite other members and take part in meet-ups.
Private messaging features will also be improved so as to allow group discussions.
Further details will be presented to you as soon as the website is available.
When will https://www.expat.com be available?
Expat.com will be available in a few weeks. We will keep you posted regarding the changes. To access the website, you will have to connect to https://www.expat.com. But don’t worry, https://www.expat.com will automatically redirect you to the new website.
I take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during all these years. You've allowed us to move forward and innovate so as to offer a more efficient and adaptive tool to our expats' needs.
See you soon on https://www.expat.com!
Take care,
Julien
