Camping near northwest coast?

Post new topic

We are moving to PR in mid December and are hoping to "rough it" while we search for housing. Is there any camping available near the northwest coast? Primarily, we simply don't want to pay $60+/night for a hotel when we're perfectly comfortable sleeping in our hammocks at night. I've found various sites with varying information, but I can't seem to figure out what, exactly, is available, and who I need to call to get the process started.

I will start by checking with DRN (Natural Resources Department), they are some restrictions and even some beaches are keep closed at night. There are some 'off the path beaches' were you may be able to camp but you will need to know how to get to them and they are rustic location without running water or restrooms. Also, the tropical weather can be an issue, right now its been raining on and off in the island. Some beaches don't have sanitary facilities or running water, the ones that do, may not allow long camping stays.

There's a camping in the backyard listing for Rincon on Airbnb for $15 a night.

@happyveg - Can you send me the link? I'm not seeing that listing.

Last time I looked, there is a woman on couchsurfing that offers camping in her backyard for free. She also has rooms available for fairly cheap on airbnb.. but the camping is free and can be found on couch surfing. She's in Rincon.

Thanks for the lead. I hadn't even thought to look at Couch Surfing. I just sent her a message.
