Ok, enough of the local whinging....

Why? Maybe what expats need to know is the non-PC reality that bubbles to the surface during `whinging`.

Just thought people wouldn't know where Tesco's or McDonald's is located - perhaps it's a bit too parochial for many here.

It is allot of fun taking walks up there in the "city mountains".
We have had allot of fun walks and times up there, in some spots we have found wild rose hips growing which we like to pick, dry out and use as tea during the winter months.
I know you can buy rose hips from shops for cheap but it is our little thing to do.
My knee was really messed up for a couple or years, still on the mend but ready to go on day trips walking in the hills again.
We used to go to the "cool valley" often, back in the "old days" it was very busy with family events and live music, a fun Sunday afternoon for the working classes.
Now with internet, more people having their own cars and 24/7 tv it isn't as busy as it used to be.
Most of the children's rides are closed and the place seems like a ghost town.
Still the trees are the same and the air is so much better then down the hills.

Yes, the world has gotten way to PC.
I am even afraid to post things I believe in because of fear of offending someone in my FB group.
My real friends know me well enough I hope to know I am only sharing different views and not attached to only one way of thinking. Only people with open minds are ex pats I believe, couldn't make a go of it otherwise.

Yes PC & Internet have there good points, when I start out next year in the country side I lost as not being good at Hugaryn to watch Tv and where I am can not use a saterlite dish to recive uk chanels so winter months reliving my younger days and down loading films I am now james stewart, dolly parton live glastnbery some from royal alber hall robby willams and brass music like grimthorp colldery and  black dyek mills bands yes the old classis in there humry bogaert african queen as age go,s on menery takes time to rember them all but still some time till spring                 "bad spelling accepted"

You are not missing very much by not getting cable HU tv shows in English.
We had that service for a few years and found it lacking in variety.
Only Judge Judy and some old style detective shows with old, old UK or US movies.
Stopped that service, too pricey for what it offered.
Just do Hulu and pick up Netflix.
Our son just canceled his dish tv here in the US because the shows were so bad and the price was close to $100. for shows he never watched.
Netflix and U tube now.
My husband only watches tv in Hungary for football games and sometimes the local news.
I actually love discovering old UK tv shows that never aired in the US, old films too.
Not one to watch tv during the daytime, only as an evening wind down, usually I fall asleep while watching a show.

In B/pest tv t.home tv chanel upgrded now Parmount tv to-night dant,s peak a lot on from VIESAT  and Dicovery Chanel all so AMC Skynes ect.

Marilyn Tassy

Thanks for the info, perhaps when we get back to Budapest this spring and set up our internet again they will offer us a deal on English tv.
I know they made us pay extra for a convertor box to switch from HU to Eng. language.
AMC got old to me, guess I am more into tv shows like SOA and other weekly series shows.
Darn, growing up in S.Cal. on a hot summers day we would do nothing during the heat but watch tv indoors, too many years of putting silly ideas in my head, time to read books again and keep my brain cells in tack, need allot of help in that required!!

Then I say too hell with them. If they claim your comments are a micorgression against their "safe space", then this is not really a "group", but rather an idealistic and insular dictatorship and convent against reality.

And this is said by someone who survived drowning during a rafting excursion on the Nile river and who stared down an Elephant charge in West Africa, just to name a few.

Too many Wooses these days who can not "tough it out" to suit me. And yet, yes, I am unbelievably, still a progressive and liberal.

Marilyn Tassy

Yes my husband and I tend to be liberal old style Hippies but I am so open minded I have a few friends who are totally right-wing, everyone has a bit of both in them I suppose.
I give so many people "passes" if not for my husband watching out for me, I am afraid people would use me like a doormat at times.
Good to have people around that "watch your back".
Elephants chasing you, wow, I once was almost chased by a bull on Maui while being 8 1/2 months pregnant, couldn't run too fast at the time! Lucky me, he turned around.
Of course my husband was falling over laughing because I was so busy trying to get away that I stepped in a cow pie!!  Memories...

Well Elephant,s can not be as bad as RSM in the Army, as by now know I am crap at spelling ect. events in life I ended up in the Army not front Line but whey back with my education look after Officers Horses I was used to being with horses as growing up grandad was farm worker using the Shire Horses now.n as the Gental Gients I work with grandad from leaving school at 14.5 he trained how to do every type of work I enjoyed ploughing most two up front  two furows at back, so back to army I arrived it was hell let loss some times as these officer wear pampering there horses, what we should do evey officer instruction still in my head even to-day, so it came to every day work again the bellowing of RSM what to do and How when I been around horses for a long time, untill one day I snapt I was doing rain work with this horse you take the horse through a searies of excersises building it to be a good horse and jumping fencers wear top of the list. so aganst his bellowing worsa pulled the horse over mounted when through start up to losen his limbs then whent like a bat out of hell clearing 5ft jumps around around I went both of us thats the horse and enjoying it I was charged given night duty for 4 weeks that,s a charging Elephant Bellowing my sentancing, but on nights when all was well the officer,s horse and me wear best frnds and even the officer felt sory for the punshment gave me plent of beer,s as is horse was the best fence jumper after my training

At age 15, I was riding one of my school friends horses( lucky teen had 2 of them)
I had ridden "Gypsy" the horse before.
We were relaxing riding slowly in a wash area when out of the blue Gypsy just reared up and threw me to the ground.
8 to 10 hours gone from my life, almost needed brain surgery .
That's my excuse these days anyways...
My HU husband only rode once in his life, one of those rent a horse deals in Hollywood, Calif.
He is afraid of them. The weird thing is his grandfather was a master horseman.
He worked for the Budapest police dept. before the war.
He was in charge of searching Hungary for the dept. to buy and train all police horses.
His fellow officers would place bets on him breaking a horse bareback.
My husband is sure his grandfather was rolling in his grave knowing his own grandson knows nothing about horses and can not ride.

Most animals from half to equal to an average adult human weight can usually kick or beat up the average adult human.

Meanwhile, a horse can kill with one well placed hoof. They can be temperamental if they do not know you well, and are an animal to be respected and to not be taken lightly.

A charging elephant --- you have two choices if you are unarmed and there is no thick cover around :

(1) stand your ground, maybe crouch, and divert your gaze to appear less threatening and hope the charge is a bluff

or

(2) die.

I will let everyone here guess what option I selected.....
