Living the happy life in Vietnam

I first visited Vietnam 3 years ago to see the sights and discovered how beautiful not only the landscapes, but the Vietnamese women are.  The culture is strikingly conservative compared to my view Thailand,  where I previously lived.  I fell in love with the country as a whole and my wife in particular.  My Vietnamese family was initially skeptical of me, but their honestly was refreshing.  Over time, I have been accepted and am very lucky to be welcomed into their family. The fact that they have a beef restaurant is a bonus.  10 months ago, we had a son, who seems to be quite popular here due to his light brown hair and mixed traits.  I have traveled extensively and find that generally the people of Saigon are warm and friendly.   Currently I am looking for work as a teacher and plan to retire here.  I would very much like to meet other expats and make some friends now that I am staying.

Hello John
My name is Dan and I just flew into HCMC on the evening of the 12th. I'm in the Go Vap district and I'm looking for some friends too. Maybe we can get together for a beer or a coffee sometime. Let me know what you think.

Sure. That sounds good. I am living in Binh Thanh district. I will get a SIM card soon, but in the meantime,  my email address is: john.rienhoff@gmail.com.   Coffee would be great.  I go to the gym or swim in the morning,  but am available after 9:00.

Hello, I read your post with great interest. Can well understand that you have found a fulfilling life in VN with a lovely VN woman, they are indeed beautiful, strong minded but with a great sense of humour
I will be in HCM in May from Australia also with the plan to retire in VN. Would love to hear how you are getting on from time to time and will definitely catch up when I get back there. I have previously lived and worked in VN

Hi Guys,

I have been living in Vn since 2012 it is indeed  a great place although it aint all beer and skittles, there are plenty frustrations too.

But all in all the atts outweigh the dets, the weather is good and there are a couple of craft beer outlets open now in Saigon, so things are improving all the time.

I also married a Vietnamese girl, who is as sharp as a razor and for a diminutive girl she has a heart like a lion and doesn't take any crap from anyone and that includes the Babylon and other authorities, which has has been a real help when faced with some of the er.... "bureaucracy" here.

Edited to add: Try the new Bia place almost opposite Al Fresco in Thau Dien, quite a few expats get in there and the beer, sorry bia, is great.

Enjoy your stay!
