Teaching posts

How easy is it to get a teaching post in Malta. I am a fully qualified teacher of 20+ across the 5-13+ age range with a current DBS.

Hi Richard,

to teach in a Maltese State or Church school you have to be fluent in Maltese. Positions are usually filled through calls.

Private schools are not so strict. International schools like Verdala don't require Maltese. Jobs are often posted in the Classified section of the Sunday Times of Malta.

Hi Ricky,
Thank you for that as it is so helpful.

Kindest regards,
Richard

I discussed the question with several Maltese teacher friends and they confirmed the language issue in the age groups you were referring to.

In higher grades at State schools there could be chances but only if you offer subjects that they cannot fill with Maltese teachers.

Hi Ricky,
Even more helpful.

I might have to go the way of private tuition then by the sounds of it possibly in maths and/or English.

Best wishes,
Richard

But don't forget to get yourself licensed !

RichardLeaElmes

What sort of licence would I need, do you know?

ricky

Depends !

To teach Maltese kids you need a Maltese Teachers Warrant and police conduct certificate.

To teach EFL you need a yearly certificate.
