Environmental protection in Peru

Post new topic

Kenjee

Hi,

Environmental protection is a challenging issue for all the countries around the world. Would you say this issue is deemed of significance in Peru?

Is the country going green through initiatives like waste management and selective sorting programs, renewable energies, public transport, green awareness campaigns and so forth?

How do you personally commit to improve the environment in your daily life?

We would greatly appreciate if you could tell us more about the various local initiatives for sustainable development in Peru.

Many thanks in advance!

It does appear that Peru is moving in the right direction in regards to environmental issues, and hopefully the upcoming elections will not stall or reverses this process. There are definitely areas that could use some work, and littering should be high on the list, I regularly see trash flung out of local bus windows and people dropping trash anywhere.

As for what we do personally, we have an extra challenge as we own and operate a bed and breakfast (GringoWasi bed and breakfast), but some of the things that we do here are we are almost fully florescent as far as our lighting goes, we have a separate container for plastic bottles for recycling and organic wast is generally saved for the local livestock, additionally each of our bathrooms has its own water heater so that when not needed, they stay off.
