Wifi at Home

Hi expat fellows,
Does anyone know how can a foreigner get wifi used at home in Vietnam?
I read on some websites saying I can go to VNPT, Viettel or FPT to apply with some IDs.
But I'm still not sure where exactly I should go to (just any store of these providers or certain agency?), and if I need anything other than IDs and documents (eg, Do I need a local guarantor?).

Please help me out if you know about this. Thanks in advance!

I think I can answer this if I understood your question. Do you already have your own connection and only want to buy a WiFi router?

Hi there,
Thanks for reply. No I have nothing so far. I just moved into a flat and try to get wifi to use.

Well then if your landlord doesn't have you wired the first thing to do he ask them to do it or would they object to you doing it. If they don't object and you plan on being in the place for awhile go down to the local VNPT or any IP ask  them to string a wire to your place. Might have to show them your passport but not much more than that. I've had VNPT going on 9 years now and pay for a decent connection with a land line and both run me about $15 bucks a month. Last month they changed my old router out a gave me a Wi-Fi router. I guess there doing it all over VN and at no charge..

Hi Alvin,

You simply need to get an internet contract. (Check with your landlord).
It should be easy and fast.

They normally deliver with a wifi router. (Simply ask for it).

Or you can buy a 3G sim card meanwhile (Quite cheap).

Hi Budman,
Thanks for your exhaustive reply! I didn't expect wire string, since I suppose the wifi should be wireless. Thanks to that you mentioned, I will go ask if it's needed. That sounds a bit troublesome tho. At least now I know where I should go to. Thanks!

Hi there,
Thank you for replying! I come here for help because my landlord is not very helpful...lol
I have a 3G sim card for phone already, but I still need wifi at home for working online or watching videos or so.
So I just need to go to local stores of any of the providers for the internet contract right?
Thanks!

Yes, that's all you need to do, as long as the landlord doesn't object. The IP might want that in writing first, before they do the installation.
