I assume by the logo photo -- the blue one -- you are male.  That is odd to be invited to the women's part of the wedding, I think.

Sorry.  No advice.  Have not been to one.

I couldn't understand when you mention "women's part"

As I understand it, they keep the men and women separate.  So that's why it's confusing that a male would be invited to the women's part.

Maybe this is a female, just has the wrong color.

m0j0working

you assume wrong. i am female -- and if you mean the avatar...that's the default avi, isn't it?

Yes, that's what I said above.  You have the male logo, so it was confusing.  :)

Gernademan

That explains it, here check this out you posted on ost "Memorable/Funny Christmas" https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=57867 and it was getting a bit odd now that we know it's all good the blue Avatar is for males and the pinkish one is for females, Ohh but I wonder what color is for the alpha males???

It really varies and depends on how much you want to spend.  Many people give cash to the mother of the bride or groom.  Don't be shy about it as this is the most common thing people do.  However, if you are not comfortable with this, perfume is always nice.  :)

Most of this discussion points to the fact that right avatar would be the best present:)

The default married one would be ideal as they are not man and woman anymore but "one flesh" as I've read in one book:)

The number of family weddings I have attended did not require, nor did I see anyone bringing a gift.   I certainly don't see the harm in bringing something smallish or maybe a box of sweets or something like that -- but I really don't think anything is expected.   Let me know if I'm wrong -- I want to make sure we collect when mine are married off - LOL !

lol wysoki...i knew libya tended to be stricter than some of the other maghrebian countries, but i didn't know it extended to gender police on forums! :D

LOLOLOL G, get ur head out of the gutter.:P  I think MoJo meant that he/she was invited from the bride's side.  ;)

yadayadayada

hey mojojojo!

if you bring a gift to a wedding it's usually something for the house... a vase, set of plates, cups, cutlery,trays... things of the sort but there are no rules except  no sweets that is usually something you give when visiting someone's home... if you can't find anything you like for the amount you want to give just give them money but make sure to put it in a small envelope with a small card ...

there is a shop in Girgaresh right next to Dune shoe store it always has great things and their prices are very reasonable....

FYI:  @ weddings libyan women  get really dressed up.. think prom but with lots more make-up, more jewelery and bigger dresses and  hair!!

have fun at the wedding

I've been to a few weddings in different countries around the middle east (including 2 Libyan weddings), and I have never brought a gift. I have (once) bought a gift for a bride who was a co-worker with a group of co-workers, but we gave it to her before the actual wedding (like a shower gift maybe?) We got her crystal...

m0j0working

thanks so much for all your good suggestions fellow forum posters! i intend to bring something small.

most of the libyans i have met have travelled a fair bit themselves and allow for our foreign ways. :D when i asked the sisters of the groom what i could bring -- to which i added "don't say no", they said we don't have lists like you do in the states...but i'll bring something. and let you all know how i get on! again thanks for the ideas and advice.

YES!!!

My opportunity to rant and rave about all the turkish and chinese nylon knock offs has risen.

I always thought female skin was more sensitive than male's. But apparently not Libyan females. Some tough, tough lady you must be to wear some of those dresses. And for hours on end! walking, sitting down, standing up, DANCING??!! I'd get chaffed to my bones just standing still in a garb like one of those I've seen in stores.
I was gonna say more, but I feel better already. So I'll just stop here.
