Next time, get a cart. Even if you just get a slab of butter. Get in front of the cart in the checkout lane. Keeps the cart between you and others behind you who try to crowd.

Hm.... Him, Fox, etc can always spin it as largest body counts in liberal states... Which is why liberals are bad.

I would not put it past any of them doing this. You can not think rationally with such ilk....

Why is that weird? Stop and think about it. Remove the hype. Look at the facts. The numbers. As of today, about 11,000 deaths. (Very sad). Every year more than that die of the "common flu". Do you know anyone who died last year (or this year) of the common flu? Any of your circle? I don't. It may get worse with this virus and you may start to know people who die, but as of today, the numbers should not make you find it weird.

Side note: Meanwhile, traffic accidents kill millions every year, and I still do not personally know anyone who has died in a traffic accident. But that is just me. Others may have different experiences.

Weird weather for sure. It was OK this morning but by mid-afternoon, it was getting chilly.  Dark clouds and now it's drizzling.   I cannot believe it suddenly dropped like that. We're expecting 1-3 cm of snow tomorrow then just as suddenly it'll go up to 12 C.   That's bonkers.

Run out of jobs to do in the house?  I think I'll never run out of jobs here.  I've got a list as long as my arm.   There's always something to do here. Still got more car repairs to do.

Netflix has said it's downgraded the streaming quality to save bandwidth but I don't see that as being necessary.  It's made some movies and shows unintelligible and blocky from here.

What I meant was that it's hard to know if it's being hyped up the media.   Wider circle means first level persons known to me who are acquainted/related with persons who have had the virus.  In a small place like this, you'd think it would be more.  Degrees of separation/Bacon and all that.

BTW, I knew people who died in car accidents - not this year but other years previously.

From :

https://insighthungary.444.hu/2020/03/2 … onsibility

The Hungarian government has officially declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic. In this moment of great uncertainty, certain media outlets that are propped up by the government such as Hungarian public television and another commercial TV station, some websites, and several print publications, have devoted significant attention to a distressing proposition: that journalists should be jailed for their reporting on problems that have arisen in the management of the pandemic. The questions these journalists ask are recast as “fear-mongering”, and our colleagues in the media have become objects of scorn for their pursuit of the truth.

If you actually do the math... You will find that degrees of separation for Kevin Bacon is actually not necessarily the same in this case. It assumes one can find the links, and know the level of randomness in the connection. And social issues may prevent that.

Which is my point. So my experience and yours are not the same. So experience alone is not really an honest gauge of facts. Your circle may not be made up of a high risk group that may have deaths. But I Assume you did not say, so know no one who has died of "normal flu". Despite 6 degrees of separation theory?

In other words, many circles may not know anyone who has died, much less, even had the disease. And because of that, those people start to claim the virus is a hoax, even made jokes about it, until someone asked if anyone they knew had it. And admitting you have a connection to Kevin Bacon is not the same same as admitting someone you know has a potentially lethal, highly communicable diseases. Social issues are more complex. Thus making such theoretical links into reality more difficult is not impossible. I knew people for years before they confided in me they had AIDS for years, for example. When finally admitted, such things are not so funny anymore...

Kevin Bacon is just an example and in no way trivialising coronavirus.   There's the concept of centre of centrality which is how far others are connected to  you (think of Bacon at the centre, but substitute Fluffy's circle).  How far away is the death of someone from nCov19 from anyone?  In theory, anyone's Bacon number is not more than 6 so in theory, universally, someone should know someone with a much lower Bacon equivalent number in this small sample of Hungary.   I'm thinking it should not be more than 3.  I'm not saying it's a fake news or hype but where the tipping point is.  If it reaches 3, then it's the critical point where it's on your doorstep, not remote.

BTW, flu is bad comparator because it's not a very high risk disease (even HIV is less serious now with antiviral medicines).  A better example might be a disease with similar death statistics - maybe 3-5% death rate (smallpox/measles unvaccinated).

Great idea, think we will be avoiding the stores for as long as we can now.Must of spent at least $250. extra in the past 3 weeks, Knew this was coming for awhile but my husband is a hard person to convenience Now he is taking it more seriously then I am.
We will be making our own bread soon, other then bread we are set for a good month, we don't eat too much.
On the bright side my husband has finally started to exercise for at least 30 mins a day! We are going to hit the streets when this is over fit and lean!

This really isn't putting a huge cramp in our lifestyles, we usually just run around for a couple hours a day either shopping, running errands or just walking for fun.
I think this may be the push to get us to make up our minds once and for all about  moving away from here when the dust settles.
Hawaii is only 6 hours from Japan, our friend there in Hawaii in Honolulu was posting that he is swimming in Wikiki Beach every morning, going to have to temp. block him...
I think the time is ripe for the gov. to do something behind our backs while we are all sitting around watching Netflix and playing video games. We will see soon enough.

Well, younger people may not even know a person who has died while in the past 3 months I have lost 2 good friends, one was my very very best friend. Never would of guessed in our youth that they woud check out so early. I knew a 12 year old boy in school, a nice Italian American boy who was hit by a car while we was walking on the sidewalk with another of his friends. The other boy was not hurt but this boy was killed on the spot. A  drunk women driver jumped the walkway on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and that was it. Steven was his name, he sat next to me in typing class.Knew him for 3 grade levels. Another ten boy Felix A. Balboa a wild red haired boy lost his head in a car accident in our town. Had a neighbors son one of her 13 children get hit by a train while we walked on the tracks at night.
Seems lately like we know more people who have passed then those who are still living, we aren't all that old either.  Wonder what the odds are of losing 2 friends in different states within 3 months?
One was 64 and the other 65.

We quite often make our own bread.  We have a breadmaking machine but to use it you need flour, yeast and water.   It's really quite nice bread but it's not too good after 2-3 days and mainly only good for toast.   But bread (carbs) are bad for you anyway.

I was watching the movie Contagion last night and it's almost a documentary on what is going on now.  Just seen Merkel is going into isolation.  My friend went to SFO yesterday and says everything is working and it's easy to get Ubers or taxis and the supermarkets have plenty of stuff but the streets are quiet.

Things are not looking good for even going for a walk.   We can apparently take the dog with us but we have to run away when we see people.  We can do that.  Maybe they'll run away from us.  Dressing as the grim reaper will do that.

The odds of you losing two friends is probably quite high given their ages.   I was told by someone (an actuary) that the older you get the chances of certain things getting you reduce - like car accidents or drink or drug poisoning - but other things increase like cancer.  The logic seemed to be that if nothing had happened to you by the time you were age X (older than say 65), then the chances are that nothing will happen to you until post mid-70'ish.   Never really looked into it more than that.

This is time to do all those outstanding DIY jobs.  I've been meaning to clean the basement and the shed.  The car needs vacuuming.  I put a TV up on a wall bracket - taken me about 12 months to do that.

Surprisingly I think I'll have to work tomorrow but it's hard work to be motivated.

It is snowing outside!
Maybe this virus will freeze to death, fingers crossed!

My husband read online that many stores are not busy now in Hungary and they are fully stocked, people have spent their wad and have no more money to buy things?
Not sure about that, loads of people use credit cards.

I know people are getting ill but I still wonder if something bigger is behind all of this chaos?
I feel like this is a bad movie and i want to change the channel!
Saw people posting on another ex-pat site that they have written their wills and made arragements with the children, now that is sad stuff.
A Vietnamese lady was hassled by some Polish teenagers when she went out to pay her rent. They spit on her, idiots, threw an ice cream cone in her face, followed  her and threw bricks and swang sticks at her.
They should be forced into hard labor for that, jerks.
People do not want to pay their rent , this is the beginning of social breakdown, hope not but people are freaking.
I am not afraid of much except a huge social breakdown, no fear of death really, just hate to not stick around to see the end of this sh*8 show. Like to find out how it all ends.
I thik 64 65 is far too young to pass on. My one friend lived a super healthy lifestye, rode her bike to work and was very active, ate well, homegrown foods and such.Did yoga all the time and had a great family life.

My BFF ,Lisa, well she was pretty much pickeled in Budweiser but still, I've know people who drank all the time and lived into their 90's.
It was stress that got both of them, I'm sure of it.
Wow,though, Lisa had just finished up a couple years of a huge court battle with her 2 older brothers over their mom's estate. ( Lisa won, well at least on paper she did) Their mom, what a sweet lady she was, was in the uS Navy during WW11., well, she left lIsa the bulk of her estate because she was the only one of her surviving children to care for her or visit her. Lisa took her parnets asshes to the desert to scatter them, even took her mom's boyfriends ashes to scatter in a different area then her parents. Her mom had a boyfriend in the nursing home in her last years, so cute.
Then Lisa's husband was found to have cancer right when the court case ended, more money out the window for his treatments.
I have no idea really how much in money was a stake, must of been enough to make everyone fight each other in court. I know she was left a large amount of Apple stocks, now with the market falling it seems like they wasted several of their last years in war and that is the saddest thing of all.

Oh yes, bread machines are nice.
Bought one when they first came out years back.
Still works just fine, it is however in storage in Vegas... Most of my good household items are still locked up.
The electric is not the same as here in HU.
We do have an adapter a super duty one which we use for the old sound system we sent over from the states.
I even paid a guy in Erd to rewire a new VHS machine for me way back when. I brought over a stash of yoga tapes and didn't convert them into disks this also was ages ago. No one uses tapes any longer.
Or disks for that matter.
A HU/US lady we know brought over everything, all their furniture and all the kitchen gadgets from the US. Then later she realized when she blew a fuse  that weren't made for use in HU, the whole Kitchenmaster line of high end gadgets.
I don't feel so bad knowing I'm not the only idiot who almost blew down their home with bad electric.
If we leave Hu in the future I am not really planning on sending much back to the states except for personal clothing .
If we move to Hawaii, even that will have to be dealt with, no need for scarfs and hats over there.
I think when this is over with I will look into it more, at least in Hawaii if something happens again, we can always toss a virgin into the volcano...

Where are you going to find a willing virgin over the age of 18 these days?

Sorry that's a typo, 21, cannot have virgins doing things like drinking or needlessly sacrificing themselves at 18.

I favour sacrificing only certain people. I've got a list. For volcanoes and for when the revolution comes.

Got a message in my box from the US embassy.
They are compiling a list of American citizens who want to go back to the US while the getting is good.
Doesn't sound too good ver there right now either.
$6. for a 4 pack of TP, turning into Venezuela so soon?
My 76 year old friend in Vegas got laid off for 30 days, hope it isn't longer then tat. She gets 2 weeks pay but her health coverage costs here $1,100 a month and she is still paying of a medical bill from 2012
I am afraid to say, I think the dollar is on it's way out, well all money, something new is going to happen, one currency.
Just hope the value of our saving isn't gone, been so frugal all these years, maybe it isn't too late to go on awild spending spree?
No, that's useless.
Have to go out tomorrow to pay our health coverage here and all the bills we have so far like cable.
If people stop paying their bills things will get worst.
Our neighbor called up to see if we needed anything from the store, we just asked her to call us when she is finished shopping and let us know how it was.
My friend out here in the countryside said canned beans were getting low, only 4 cans in the store, she bought 2 of them.
I seriously think we are all going to be tested soon enough, no for a virus but mentally.

I can appreciate the idea that things might seem better or at least more familiar back there but I am not sure Trump is taking any of it with any gravitas and he hardly seems to have a plan likely to succeed.  While he might have one to save his own business (also rapidly evaporating), he's highly influenced by BS from Fox News commentators. Looks like he's of the opinion that it should eventually burn itself out while the Federal government does almost nothing substantial, pointing to the States as responsible.

I'm afraid the healthcare system is so screwed up in the USA, there's no fallback position and anyone could be bankrupted by it.  In the low earning population, even $75* for a coronavirus test will be too much.  That means there will be a reservoir in the underclass for the virus to be there for a long time.  In the USA, the coverage of vaccinations  80% range which is way below that required for herd immunity for any disease at 95%+.  I can imagine in the USA a vaccine appearing and there will be  charges for it and no compulsion because of anti-vaxxer loons.

If Trump really wanted to be radical, he'd start to move healthcare providers including pharma companies into a war footing for 1 year, requiring them to provide all services on a fixed price which the Federal Government will then pick up.   This is what other countries are doing.  They're effectively freezing their economies.

As for mental health services, yup, I agree.  People are getting nCoV19 anxiety. I think we'll see people doing loopy stuff as they stew in their own mental juices banged up in their own homes and no contact with others and following Trump**.  I am sure the suicide rate will jump.

I'm not reading good things about the HU government approach - it's a power grab/coup Maduro style.  Be interesting to see what the EU does about it.

* heard that from a friend in Ottawa but I think it's much worse - see this report from Washington.

** Trump really is moron in chief - Aquarium Cleaner.

We had to pay some bills today, Had been locked up for 4 days.
We went out early, not my thing to go out early but less people about in the mornings.
I was going to jump into Aldi, our neighbor was there yesterday at 8 am and no one was in there. This morning we decided not to shop there because as we looked into the window it was very busy.
We drove to Tesco instead.
Not too busy there and mostly stocked.
They had some oatmeal in stock, finally, they have been out of that for ages.
We usually eat oatmeal for breakfast a couple times a wekk with fresh ground flax  seeds, black cumin s seeds, a grated apple, honey and cinnamon . I force my husband to also take a tbs. of punpkin seed oil and some powered miranga... Poor guy, not exactly tasty but good for you.I hope.
Ok so at Tesco they are starting to be more serious about the virus. The meat counter had a sign to wait you turn behind the line to order from the butcher. But then the butcher is not wearing a mask?
I saw so many people outside walking around with their face maks under their noses, what is the point of wearing one then? They also should be tossed out after every use, My friend said he sprays his mask down with rubbing alcohol to re use it.Think the masks most people are wearing only makes them feel safer, guess that could work on one level mentally at least.
Our neighbor had a mask, I was considering picking a few up if I could, She said she has one but they are so ill fitting that they are useless, just makes people feel better to have one on, Socially judging each other for not wearing one?
The post office at Keliti had people waiting one by one to enter, that was new since last week.
The most important thing is to keep your immune system strong, and stay away from people.
We have been practicing  social distance from people for years, that's no problem to do.
I do not drink hard liquor but today I picked up a small bottle of palinka, just in case we all get shut in for months.
Oat meal and palinka, think we are set for the long haul.
I heard that most of these people who have died from this virus had flu shots in the recent past and also had one or more health issues already.I was vaxed as a child like everyone else was in school. My son had all the vac shots on the appointed time but lately I heard that these younger children are getting poked with up to 72 different cocktails of God knows what.I think all that mercury can't be good for anyone.
I probably will be a hold out on a new vax if and when they are forced on us. Will only consider it if that's the only way to travel or leave the house. I am paranoid that they have nano inside and will use these shots to track and control in the future. Why do we place so much trust in these doctors?
Time to have some fresh ground ginger, tumeric, black pepper and cinnamon tea....Good against any illness, it will burn it out of your system if you can swallow it.

We were in Obi and there are lines on the ground for spacing and plastic barriers to stop anyone coughing on the cashiers.  They didn't like us using cash.  We'd rather use it as we're old school as far as finances go.

Please don't be an anti-vaxxer.  It's insanity and dangerous for everyone else.  Thank heavens for the technology.

I've been in countries where multiple people were disabled by polio and kids can easily die of measles.  And it's all so easily avoidable.  It's really absurd that that any of that could have even happened anywhere in the world in recent years. If we didn't have vaccines, many more of us would be dead before we even reached school age.   The risks of problems caused by vaccines are insignificant compared to not having the vaccination.

No-one outside of the USA cares about mercury compounds causing autism.  There's no evidence for it and what there is amounts to fake news.  I used to live opposite a guy opposing flouride in drinking water - but my kids never had any fillings. Unlike me who lived in an area without flouride.  I guess it worked.

I expect no-one will be allowed to travel without being vaccinated now.  All my flights have been cancelled.  I was vaccinated once at the boarding gate in Istanbul. I was travelling to a country with a polio outbreak. I was glad to have it and the authorities having the wherewithal to insist.

All that ginger/pepper or whatever is pure quackology.  You'd get better with or without it but it's in addition to vaccination.  But it won't make any difference if it makes you feel better having the placebo.

Those idiots who drank aquarium cleaner on Trump's say so really prove the theory of Darwinism and natural selection.  In other words, having the gene(s) for doing stupid things will be self-limiting in the population.

COVID19 - Budapest tour:

Budapest is Empty

Apparently taken between 0600-1100h.

The 37-year old Deputy British Ambassador to Hungary has died, the tenth death in Hungary.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-heal … SKBN21C2YX

So young, to me at least, but there have been a lot of young deaths elsewhere, and the young are starting to show up disproportionately in new cases, perhaps because they're not quite so willing to practice social distancing.

As to heading back to the US, not only is the situation worse there, but all the togetherness at the airport and on the plane seems a really really bad idea at this time. My own thought is just to stay put, wherever you were when the music stopped.

At least Americans will be a getting a US$1,200 check soon, even overseas.

Yup knew about the Deputy Ambassador.  There was talk of it earlier today.  Youngest I've heard of is 18 years old.

News reports describe the US is likely to be the new epicentre of the pandemic so bad idea to go there.

Trump says it'll be over by Easter  yeah, right.  I'm a bit surprised only $1200 will be available, presumably as a one off payment.  In most European countries, it's 80% of salary for employees and soon it'll be 80% for everyone else.

The good news is there seems to be an on the spot test for antibodies becoming available that takes 15 minutes to use and would seem to mean that if you have had it, you'll be clear to move around as it will mean you're immune.

In this area (adjoining District II), we've got multiple incidences of the virus now in villages within 8-10km.

I have read elsewhere that this test relies on a particular antibody that shows up very soon after infection, so you could still be contagious after testing positive, even if asymptomatic.

Don't know for certain whether this is the case, though.

Yes, there's a lot of uncertainty.  No-one knows the details on transmission etc for this virus or how long it hangs around.

If push comes to shove, I would get a vax, better then being put in a anti-vax camp, Fema or whatever.
My friend passed away 30 years ago, she was in her early 40's.
She had breast cancer but her doctors told her that it was caused by her polio coming back, sounds a bit off but that's one thing they told her.
Had polio as a child and lived in an iron lung for over one year, her father was a doctor too.
My old ballet dancing male friend had an older sister who was in a wheelchair from polio and my son's pediatrician on Maui had polio and was probably the nicest doctor I ever met besides our old school family doc in my home town.
That pediatrician was big on getting children their shots in a timely manner.
My old friend in N Ca. has a 19 year old grandson with autism, it's a burden on everyone because they kept him at home and had tons of different training to handle him. He is a huge guy, Swedish, German and Iranian , must be 200 lbs. It was scary for awhile because he would freak out in shops and start running like he was going insane. They were so afraid he would hurt someone by accident.
It's better now, they spend all their time with him on their farm and have him helping with the animals.
In the US they put flouride in the water, been doing that forever, at least 50 years or more.
I had tons of cavities even with the water being spiked and having flouride treatments at the dentists office several times.
I think we all are hoping that this passes soon and things get back to normal  without too much social damages.
I am not claiming that fresh ginger tea and the like cure anything but they do help  to boost the immune system. It also helps with inflammation in the joints.

When traveling to many countries for over the past two decades, I had to have my yellow card on me. That is proof of vaccination for Yellow Fever. And others (tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), etc.). A few more shots should not be a problem for me.

The good news is there seems to be an on the spot test for antibodies becoming available that takes 15 minutes to use and would seem to mean that if you have had it, you'll be clear to move around as it will mean you're immune.

Source?

BTW: Every test has false positives and false negatives. In a pandemic it is dangerous to trust any test that is "new" as these false reports may be significant and thus very dangerous to make assumptions till clinical tests are done, and that can take months..... So, not much help today.

For sure no-one knows if anyone is really immune and not then a carrier but it's looking like these quick tests will help give an indication of the infection status.

I think we can generally trust Public Health England to describe the technology correctly and the reporters at INews (it's a well known newspaper in the UK).

Yes, me too.

But some Docs are strange.

I had to argue for the TBE vaccination which I thought was pointless as I was paying for it anyway.  I was doing a lot of cycling in the forests and thought it was a good idea but they seemed to think it unnecessary and resisted. I mean, why take the risk of TBE when you can have the vaccination?  We were used to having it in Austria but here, nope.

I think they thought they'd save me money - yeah, thanks a lot for the thought.  Now unless there's something else stopping me, give it to me.

I'm having some difficulties with my builder trying to save me money - doesn't want to put rodding points in my sewer pipes.  Well, sorry, do it anyway.

From the link:

Public Health England said a simple 15-minute “finger prick” test was being evaluated in Oxford laboratories this week.

So... being evaluated.... Get it? Not, "becoming available" as you posted, much less  confirmed. Seriously... The evaluation may fail.... Let us all wait for official scientific confirmation before spreading "maybes".  :top::cool:

Till we get scientific backing and proof on all horizontal and vertical effects such a test may have (i.e. not possible in a week no matter who says so) you might* be simply spreading false hope and FUD. Stop it. And many such test are being rushed to market for political expediency.... I would not trust them too much, for that reason alone.

I didn't post without some elements of background verification and of course, I only use trusted sources.   I certainly don't use Fox News or Trump etc or Bannon or Farage's thoughts.  I'm also not a visionary or a troll, just sharing what I heard was said in trusted organisations and on the news wires that might be significant.

The lab in question is the University of Oxford labs so that's well trusted - it's a world class centre for medical research.     The authorities (in this case Public Health England) are understandably very conservative so they do indeed want to see it works. But they also ordered millions of tests so there must be a considerable amount of evidence to support it working.  They wouldn't order millions of tests randomly from anyone - they won't be getting from the University, they'll use a regulated pharma manufacturer.   Anyone can look all that up on trusted sources of their own.

I'm not spreading false hope. Of what? Never claimed a cure.  If I had said it was a vaccine or cure, then you'd definitely have more mileage to say it was giving false hope.

BTW, one thing I've learnt from doing business with government institutions is never to trust anything anyone says including the Ministers - not without triangulating multiple sources.  In this case, I'm pretty sure due diligence was done on multiple levels.

Sighs... Mostly a defensive reply. Please read again what I wrote. Calmly. You did make  falseclaims. such as :

The good news is there seems to be an on the spot test for antibodies becoming available that takes 15 minutes to use and would seem to mean that if you have had it, you'll be clear to move around as it will mean you're immune.

Meanwhile criticizing Marilyn for her views with:

Please don't be an anti-vaxxer.  It's insanity and dangerous for everyone else.  Thank heavens for the technology.

What you are failing to understand is you expect Marilyn to have scientific backing, but only allow yourself a link to some web site. Which if you read it, specifically said to "wait" on results:

But the UK’s chief medical officer dismissed suggestions the antibody test will be ready to buy online next week. Professor Chris Whitty said the accuracy of the tests needed to be properly tested before they were made available for public use.

Which clearly contradicts your "becoming available" claim.

Again... Keep calm (and move on). Be it for the FUD on vaccines regarding autism or tests on COVID-19.

Especially those that claim to be liberal... who should (ideally) understand science. And Scientific principles. Seriously.... Don't be a reactionary.

You fu**** up this time. We all do from time to time. Carry on. No harm, no fowl. We all make mistakes. So, again, be a real liberal. Admit error. Admit being human. Something no right winger will do. And  wait on the science to catch up before making claims that may not be supported by actual science. Stop making liberals look like reactionaries.... Seriously. Stop it. It is embarrassing....

Here, thank heavens vaccination is compulsory to go to school.  Having seen some of the goings on in Samoa over measles, I can see why they force people to be vaccinated.  Either that or endless quarantine.

Polio has been close to eradicated by 2018 after the cheap vaccine came. No-one should really know anyone who had it.   Only 33 cases worldwide in 2018.  It bounced back due to political/religious misinformation in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.  Pathetic thinking - diseases have no boundaries or politics or religion.  None of that misery is necessary.  It could be completely wiped out.   Apparently a dose of polio vaccine costs cents to manufacture.

If ginger floats your boat, then sure but best not to rely on it.   I've probably got osteoarthritis (genetic I suppose) with inflammation and stiffness amongst other conditons and counter intuitively, one of the treatments is easy, exercise! I can see the weather is getting better.  I think the bike has to come out for the weekend!

Mrs Fluffy says this will all last until June.  Stuffed our Balaton plans it seems - it'll be all closed down.

BTW, some people think autism, ADD and some other conditions are simply bad behaviour.

Hmmm....p***ing and nitpicking contest.  I've got broad shoulders. Let's try not to get out of bed the wrong side.  I feel justified and in any case, nah, not playing this time as stuff to do, nope, nada, rien, nichts and therefore no apologies (to chickens and other bird life too).

Anyways, it's not some web site -  UK press with direct links to UK government.   BTW, I know what Prof Whitty and Prof Peacock said - I listen to UK news radio all day and I listen to  the daily news conferences by Boris and Co.   Anyways, I also know the Health Secretary (Minister) said they bought 3.5M tests. In the UK, these would be entirely free and on the NHS. That's becoming available.  It might be politics but there's no reason to believe the tests that will be delivered will be useless.

Lockdown 28 March - 11 April 2020

OV has announced we're all in lockdown during these dates.

Apparently those over 65 can go out 0900-1200 to shop but no-one else can go during those times.      There's very little detail.

More here: Koronavirus.gov.hu - note there's an element of politicisation of COVID19 on this official web site.

Marilyn Tassy

Our neighbor just knocked on the door to tell us the Aldi was not busy.
I never thought about running out to shop as much as in these past few weeks.
Dang, we don't even eat large portions of anything.
Now I am obsessed with fresh greens.
Tomorrow ,Sat. for at least the next 2 weeks it will be seniors only shopping 9 am till 12.
I wonder how staying 1 1/2 meters apart will be working at rush hour on the trams, and buses. Perhaps they will have to hire someone to double check that only X amount of people can enter at one time.
Japan is going to be giving every family close to $3,000 because of this "virus".
I honestly do believe that nutrition can help with any health issue.
What you put in and how you think do effect your health.
All this fear being repeated over the media is going to panic and hurt more people in the long run then this,"virus" is.
I have some serious doubts this is as large a problem as we are bing told but it is too soon to rebel and speak up.
My husband wants to take no chances of getting anything so we are going along with the "program" for now.
Not rocking the boat, have no power  to do anything about this strange new way of doing things.
Not sure if this is a cover to have a mass bank take over or what is going on but I feel something bigger then a "virus" is going on.
Again, at age 65 I no longer have a large stake in the future so whatever happens , happens.
I am a bit concerned about going digital with banking and all these bail outs agian. If the banks fold what about our savings. Is everyone going to get a fixed income off the gov. if they take the shots and follow their orders?
Yes, perhaps I've watched 1984 a couple of times too many.

We were in the centre of Budapest yesterday. We were near Arpad and in District III.  The trams are nearly empty.  Just a few people.  We went to a computer company and they were all there, maskless and people were coming and going.

Let's not be negative.  65 is the new 45 these days.  You could go on until you're 95 so you're still invested in the world.

I think a lot of people are thinking this is like being in an apocalyptic movie.  Must be a stress coping mechanism.  I'm wondering when the asteroid is coming, the zombies arise, the alien Deathstar lands or Soros reveals himself as a metamorphic lizard in human form and declares himself Emperor of the World and Commander of the Earth Lizard Imperium.

In other news, I've discovered quokkas.   Horribly, horribly cute.  If I was in quarantine, it would be nice to be on that island.

Marilyn Tassy

Right now I personally would avoid all doctors unless your bleeding out, you may get an unexpected case of the "virus" just for going in to their office.
Now is a great time to cull the herd, useless people who are no longer of value to the gov. Those who are collecting pensions , welfare or on any sort of public assistance.
I'm not negative just aware there is a game being played at the moment.
I am even suspicious of them having senior only hours, what is that a good time to spray the stores with something?
Guess it is in my nature to not trust the gov. After all didn't some of my relations get some free blankets covered in small pox virus?

Might be Greta Thunberg who has it in for seniors.  She did complain about it at the UN or wherever.  We don't hear much from her these days.  Obviously there's a more pressing survival issue.

Those virus blankets were a crime against humanity.   Did anyone get some compensation?  US blew up the Marshall Islands with nuclear weapons.  USA will be paying for it forever and ever.    UK is being asked to pick up the slave trade legacy costs too.  Germans, the Holocaust.  We could all be asking the Chinese for money next for Corona.  Come to think of it, those Romans owe people big time.  What have they ever done for us?

I know what you mean about government.  I go back to that Russian proverb that was hanging around during the Cold War and that Ronnie Ray-gun liked "Trust but verify".

Lovely day - good day to be outside while one can.  I'm out doing stuff in the garden and shed in a T-shirt. I would have worn my hot pants but it's Friday and gold Lamé shows the dirt.

Marilyn Tassy

Gold Lame....Reminds me of seeing Foghat in concert in San Diego, the singer was wearing gold lame skin tight pants.. I  digress.
Compensation to native Americans from the US goverment? Dream on!
My sister hooked me up with Netflix from the US.
Guess she added me ages ago but I got bored with them .
Today my husband asked about it so I suppose this lock down can last another while as long as the internet is running. He is excited to see all the movies he can chose from.
Was planning on staying in unless we go shopping, this thing is not going to go away unless people stay in.
I looked out the window and noticed 3 people in a circle chatting on the sidewalk, guess they are special.
I know Bill Gates took out a patent on Corona virus. That dude is pure evil, even his smile gives me the creeps.
He of course will be coming out with a cure soon enough, guess that is another US/International patent to soon be registered.
Well enjoy the weekend people, at least on Monday the weather report is for cold and chilly, makes you feel better knowing it is lousy outside since going out for no good reason is not PC at this time.

Bill Gates and the virus patent is fake news.  Quick Google on trusted sites quickly shoots that one down!

Never heard of Foghat but the gold lame is of interest.   It's not really a digression and there's no theme here especially in lockdown.  Anything will do.  Surprisingly I see people passing all the time - in ones and twos with and without kids and dogs.  I haven't seen any large groups.

The US government has paid compensation to the Marshall islands but they'll have to pay effectively forever as the half-life of Plutonium is 24000 years.  Same kind of half life as Trump's ego, Putin's presidency and OV's something, anything.

Make the most of Netflix.  It's needed during these strange times. I'm hearing all production seems to have dried up and won't going again for ages but I guess Netflix's stock will be on the up.   We're quite keen on Netflix recently and we often find something to watch. I'm looking forward for Season 3 of Ozark which was released yesterday.  They have some good shows but some others are meh....  Some of the big name own movies are a bit rubbish but the TV shows can be averaged out as quite good.

zif

"My sister hooked me up with Netflix from the US."

Is Netflix US now working again from overseas? I subscribed a few years ago, but then they started blocking access if you were overseas, even if you used a VPN, so I cancelled my subscription. (There's local Netflix in Hungary and many other countries, but it offers nothing like the choice of Netflix US.)

Would start up again, at least for the next couple of months, if they've decided to unblock overseas access again. (Supposedly overseas access was blocked for copyright reasons: films on Netflix US are only licensed for viewing in the US.)
