My husand just informed me of a new law from last year that passed here in Hungary.
It's the first time we've heard of it.
Perhaps because we don't have minor children we missed it.
The Hungarian Medical Chamber voted on this.
The law could be vetoed however...
It is still be bit under consideration.
The laws states that children over age 12 can have legal sex with another person up to age 18.
From age 14 children can legally engage in sex with any age.
..
-@Marilyn Tassy

Is this some kind of increasing the population through teenage pregnancy initiative?

Sounds very weird as a policy. It's like encouraging underage sex.
-@fluffy2560

It's just not right. Makes me think who ever is pushing this sick agenda is a memeber of MBLA. (NMBLA?)

I remember that actually happening and how it made the news. She survived but it was not good obviously.

There's no dignified death in war.  CNN has some footage of dead Russians piled up in the street. Just Putin cannon fodder. Some of them were very young according to the documents they found - just 23 years old. What a senseless waste of life. All for one man's ego.
-@fluffy2560

She is 59 yo now, received her last skin treatment in June this years. Imagine that, 50 years later. She lives in Toronto with her husband and I'm not sure if I remember correctly but she has already some grandchild. Last time when i read about her (in July) she was escorting some UA refugees to Canada

That was my first thought too. Uneducated but sexually active, there can be only one outcome. Kids having kids, financially dependent on parents.. now that sounds as smart idea to boost the population! Economy will be pleased

I remember the Napalm girl.

So many innocent people are hurt or killed in wars.

Heartbreaking.

I used to work with many Vietnamese people in Las Vegas in the casinos.

I always felt we owed them an apology. Then again we all should apologise to every race and country.

Our leaders all did horrible things in our names.

I've always had a facination with war thinking of why.

When I was very young, say 3 or 4 years old I remember pulling out books from the book shelf and looking through the pictures of people in German concentration camps.

I brought the books to my mother and asked what happened.

It has always haunted me knowing people can be so evil with each other.

My husbands step-fater was in the HU army in WW11.

His unit used those heavy guns to bomb.

He said he would close his eyes and try not to think about the damage. He was so far off that he never really saw what those guns did up close.

He spent 5 or 6 years in a Russian labor camp when his unit was captured.

Most in his unit never left the camp.

My son's ex GF from Japan was a tour guide at Hiroshima.

She discribed it to me, terrible.

My beauty school instuctor was a super nice older women.

She worked during the day as an assisitant nurse for a plastic surgeon and taught at the beauty college at night.

Strange how she had to careers at once. She said she needed to surround herself with beauty.

Well, her last name was Gay, we called her MIss Gay as is done in beauty school. Even married women are called Miss and the male instrutors are all called Mr.

She told us once that her older brother, was the man flying the Enola Gay that dropped one of the bombs on Japan!

He named the plane Enola Gay after their mother.

So strange to know how small the world actually is.

...In yet other news...
We just read that starting in Oct. in Germany they will have military presence on the streets. They will be asking for papers etc.
Hmm, maybe it's getting about time to look into airfare prices....
-@Marilyn Tassy

I didn't read any of that in today's news and I read and listen to news almost 24x7.  In any case, why?

Might be old news as that was discussed a few years ago.  This is a problem. Best think is to have a link to trusted sources - i.e proper journalists from mainstream newspapers or TV channels.

Hmmm..not sure about that.  Might be some BS data and not what is going on at all.  Just someone's opinion.

The population is not going to take kindly to armed soldiers wandering around.  We never had that in mainland UK, even during the NI troubles.

When we visited Italy 3 or 4 years ago, there were many soldiers in the streets of Rome. I had no idea that it was just regular situation over there. Our B&b host explained to us that it's been like that for few years already. I'm pretty sure people get used to almost any sighting even soldiers in the streets

Might not be soldiers but paramilitary police.  The Carabinieri etc.

We don't have such police in the UK but they do in many other countries, including France.

I am not sure there are such police in Hungary.  Maybe the TEK - anti-terrorist police - but they aren't generally to be seen wandering the streets.

I don't think the Germans have those kinds of police usually walking about.

They were "mixed" with carabinieri, that's why it actually surprised me cause I was used seeing Carabinieri, especially in south Sicily. Some of those guys in Rome were quite heavily armed, at 1st moment we thought there was some high profile politicians meeting or something like that as we hadn't seen such scenes in other cities. It didn't make me feel any safer to be honest. No idea what the situation looks like now.

That's hell of story. It's true about the small world, everybody knows somebody who knows that guy who knows anybody 1f601.svg

In 1978 the first time we visited Hungary you could see armored soliders all over the place.

We took a funky train from Vienna to Budapest. We were the only passengers who crossed into Hungary. ( We had to exit the western Europe train and board a one for soviet tracks)

Silly 23 year old me, my 30 year old husband and out 2 1/2 year old son.

We 3 were in a car with 2 armed guards watching us the whole trip!

It ws creepy to say the least.

We walked over today to an online pick up spot to collect a space heater we ordered.

It was located inside a beauty salon.

Zero clients inside at 1pm.

Salons can be a bit slow on arainy  Thursday afternoon just post lunch hour.

It was a large old fashioned salon with decorations from say 1970.

The hydraulic chairs reminded me of the one I own in storeage, I purchased it for $20. at the Goodwill...Great for my at home work in the US.

The owner/operater came over to us thinking we wanted our hair done.

Poor old gal, she must of been pushing 80 years old.

She told us she was on the hairdressing board , the board who does the testing for new cosmetologists and hairdressers.

Intersting lady but dang, I'm not so sure I'd let her get that old razor out the way her hands were shaking...

It's sort of sad really to once have been on top of your game and then deciline.

I would seek her out for an updo or if I wanted the latest look between the years 1950-1980.

I'm sure she knows her stuff as far as that era goes.

That sounds sad. Old people left "useless" make me emotional for God know what reason.

But few years ago I was recommended to get my 5cm birthmark surgically removed off my belly and when I've met the surgeon i was sure he was gonna remove half of my internal organs too, old and shaky fella, God bless him. But once he grabbed the scalpel, he became steady as heck. I was impressed with those neat stitches he made at the end.

You mean mounted (horse) police? No, they are ordinary police except on horses. Usually they use them for crowd control. We saw them at the Queen's funeral - not to be confused with the Household Cavalry/Horse Guards.

But there are some unusual police forces in the UK which is interesting.

  • Parks Police - monitoring some parks in London (but not actually called the Parks Police anymore)

  • British Transport Police - police on the railways and other places with transport

  • Ministry of Defence Police - names in the title

  • Civil Nuclear Constabulary - guarding nuclear sites (only police on mainland UK that are routinely armed) - more interesting than the others.

Another story for your memoires!

Strangely my Dad was talking about the atomic bombs in Japan the other day.  He was wondering if Tibbets (the pilot) had any guilt over the bombing and from what I remember, he had none.  He saw it as a way to end the war.  Must have had nerves of steel.   I believe he wanted to be a surgeon at one point in his life and I suppose that would mean having to put some emotional distance between the doctoring, its outcomes and the actual patient.  Perhaps not dissimilar emotionally to bombing the Japanese but on a smaller scale.  I wondered if I could press the button and sitting here, I think I could but I found it hard to fire my rifle at human like targets on a range way back when. I suddenly got  a kind of guilt.  But I suppose if they are shooting at you, there's no choice.

I went through "the Wall" cum Iron Curtain driving from West Germany to Berlin way back in the 1980s.  It was very intimidating.  Biggest thing I noticed - as it was getting dark - was how few lights were on in East Germany.  West Germany was lit up like a Christmas tree.   Lots of speed checks going on and laughable motorway stops - huge piles of Russian champagne for sale.  Our old car looked like a Rolls compared to the Wartburgs and Trabants parked up.  We must have seemed like millionaires.

Once in Berlin, it was pretty much the same as anywhere German other than this looming wall everywhere.   I did the whole thing - Checkpoint Charlie and various lookouts to see the guards looking back.   It was interesting and of course never to be seen again as the Wall came down soon after.

A few years later I took a day trip to Magdeburg from Hannover - post-Wall.  What a dump!  It was a real mess of a town.  All the sewers were broken yet there were new washing machines in the shop windows.  The church was well into renovation - get your priorities right, sewers vs worship.   One thing I noticed that was different was that all the highway exits had been constructed and there were traffic lights - brand new from Siemens.   At the border, the barracks and symbols of East Germany were all falling down with plants growing out of them.   Best forgotten.

I do know Tibbets little sister, my beauty school instuctor was level headed.

Miss Gay. She didn't use her married surname but her first name as is done in beauty schools. At least they used to operate that way. All the female instructors were Miss First name and the Men were all Mr. first name or surname.

She was rather a nice lady, they had a surprise party for me when I graduated and she bought me a nice gift.

A sliver charm made out into a pair of shears.

Think It was 1978 and charms were the rage.

I know the ,"Greatest" generation had a sense of duty and sort of emotional detachment.

No matter which country they came from, they did what they had to do and usually didn't dwell on it too much.

If your country needed you then you did the ,"right thing".

My father was different but he was a rather shocking person in all areas of his life.

MBLA = Man Love Boy Association?  WTF?  Never heard of it but doesn't sound good as it suggests no informed consent.  But let's not equate being gay with paedophilia as presumably this MBLA group might cause people to infer.  NBMLA = Not Man Love Boy Association?

I suppose these age limits only apply to hetero relationships. This sounds like a hole they've started digging. They should stop that.

But countries have different laws and views. The age of consent in the UK is 16 for either straight (for certain) or gay (I believe)

So in the case of Prince Andrew, him engaging in affairs (allegedly) with a consenting 17-year old is not even a crime in the UK.

It's like drinking. Europe is 18 but USA is 21. Quite bizarre! People will do it anyway, regardless of the law.

I grew up in Ca. where one had to be 21 to even enter a bar.

Moved to New Jersey at 19 and worked in a bar serving beers for a few weeks in a college bar...

18 was legal drinking age on the east oast.

Very strange when I moved back to Ca. and couldn't even enter a bar.

Our HU nephew visited us in NM and ordered a beer at dinner.

He was 18. We told him no way and he couldn't believe it.

We moved to NYC for a few months when I was 19-20  and I worked in an Irish bar behind the counter.

Funny, only about 5 to 6 men per night all Italian and wearing trench coats came in.

They would order one drink and leave a tip, take their drink into the back room and exit a few hours later...

They hired at least 7 of us young ladies to work at the bar?

All on the up and up on our side.

It was also a steak house during th daytime hours.

I worked there only 2 weeks or so,my friend who worked with me and was from the UK got us both jobs at another place with more tips and was much more busy.

Probably only worked there for less then 2 weeks, just not my thing.

Maybe it was stage name.

Tibbets's sister was apparently called Barbara Ann Hansen (that was her married name). She was easy to Google. You could click here to see if it was the same person. There's a photo at Findagrave.com (I've used it before to try and trace ancestors).

Tibbets himself was quite interesting. He had a long career in aviation but the grim reaper caught up with him in like 2007 or something at the grand old age of 92. Being nuke'd so to speak, didn't stop him living to a good age.

There's a an interview with him on YouTube discussing the name of his plane, Enola Gay, which was indeed his mother's name. He didn't seem to have any sadness over what he did. Guy must have been made of ice to some degree or had a great ability to separate out his mind. But I suppose pressing a button is different to face-to-face hand combat.

One thing I didn't think about was that Enola is "Alone" backwards (learnt that from the Netflix movie Enola Holmes). Don't know if it really means anything.

One interesting tidbit was Tibbets's son became a pilot as well in the military. That's some legacy where people might expect one to "perform".

I looked at her photo...

Hmm, she was  much younger and had her hair dyed black when I knew her.

The face looks somewhat the same but aged and thinner.

Why would anyone makes such a claim if not true?

I'm bad with faces,I met my sister at the airport in Vegas and walked right past her.

She called out to me and I turned around.

She and I hadn't met in person for over 20 years.

I did the same thing with my BFF Lisa when I met her at the bus depot in Vegas.

Who knows if she made an untrue claim or not?  Perhaps she didn't want anyone to know she was related to the guy who dropped the bomb and perhaps for good reason.

I know Tibbets himself was cremated and his ashes scattered over the English channel.  He said he didn't want his grave to be  a memorial or a place of protest.  So no headstone and no funeral.  He seems like he was a very calm and collected guy. I suppose he had to be to survive all those bombing runs over Nazi Germany.  Takes a special kind of person.

I watched a documentary on Hiroshima bombings, the pilots clearly stated they'd seen it as duty, no emotions or analyzing attached. Even after years. Who knows what we would do if we were made to

I had a conversation with my Dad a day or so ago where he told me in WW2 he was shooting at a guy on a ridge.  This guy was leading a horse and cart.  He fired his machine gun at him.  Nothing happened.  He just disappeared over the hill.  Didn't hit him apparently.   And my Dad was an ordinary guy.  He said he didn't feel any regrets or think about it.  The Germans were the enemy and it was war.

It's hard to say what one would do when you're in danger yourself.

My father was a medic and growing up he would turn white and shake if we scrapped our knees roller skating and showed him our injury.'He would always say go to you mother.

The only time I know he overcame his PTSD is when my little 6 year old friend was bleeding out from being biten by the neighbrs pit bull and when a neighbor lady was having a miscarriage and everyone was waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

These were massive blood injuries, he most likely drank himself into a coma after the fact.

I asked my father once when I was young if he ever killed anyone in WW11. Medics only were issued a handgun for personal protection , no machine guns or anything heavy duty.

He said he got into a hand to hand with a Japanese man and we know who won.

He wasn't bragging and looked very upset and sad and never spoke about it again, ever.

My step-dad however was also a medic but he was full on. He would pick up whatever he could find and use it. He saved many lives and took many as well.

They both felt guilty the rest of their lives .

Maybe you don't fall off, maybe you just flip to the other side and walk upside down.

My Dad said he was probably out of range although he was very enthusiastic about the quality of the Bren gun he was using.  He'd never told me that story before. He's very reluctant to share those details, so maybe there's more stories than I know.  I started off asking him about radial aircraft engines they installed in tanks.

These old timers have seen some things and often done some things we think we never could do.

I pray we never have to find out what we are made of.

I once by accident had a brat in my sights while I was behind the wheel of my car in a shopping center.'He was party to breaking my sons arm and there he was all by himself in my sights. No one would notice if I hit the gas by accident , would they?

I'm glad I had some control over myself, it was enough to have him look my way and see his face turn white.

I had the proverbial devil on one shoulder and angle on the other. I actually had to call out the Lords name aloud to stop myself from doing him in.

We all have a dark side we usually never have to face .

I mean it was only a shattered crippled arm after all... Not like shattering this brats legs would matter.

I try to never judge anyone because we never know what was really going on in their lives, minds or emotions.

Maybe you don't fall off, maybe you just flip to the other side and walk upside down.

That's how I used to picture Australians as a child

Isn't it like that now?   Not so much the other side as parallel universe.

I used to wonder if you dug a hole all the way to Australia, you'd never make it to the other side.

You'd fall until the middle and then  slowly stop as you'd be at the centre of the gravitational field.

Could anybody explain to silly me what's "Gladstones"? (From the Catcher in the rye book)

OK, if I gone ,"dark" the men in white coats have taken me away!!

Got all dolled up to a walk with my hubby today but he decided he wasn't into it.'I was on my own to run over to to pick up some items.

I went over myself, sort of a rare occasion these days.

At check out the young Hungarian clerk said hello in Hungarian and I was smart a@@ and said Howdy, Hi, Hello.

He couldn't hear me(  he was in the normal formal greet customer mode).

He removed his head set and asked what I had said.

Repeat...

He said he couldn't hear me because of his headset in his ear.

I replied that he should be careful not to be radiated.

I quickly said don't use or have a cell phone.

He asked me how I am in contact with people:

Everyone I know is dead was my reply.

I told him I use a medium or spiritualist if I needed to be in contact.

He laughed but still wonder if he thought I was out of my mind or if I was funny.
