As a born American I never had any interest, zero in voting. My mom told us  that and I still think it is true, that our votes do not count, it is all rigged. Her father taught her that, come from a family of rebels?I know my German grandfather was all upset about the Rockerfellers and that crowd from way back before the depression years. He was born in 1882 and never voted as far as I know although he did join the US Army for the Spanish American War. He was looking for adventure at age 14. Wonder if he would of joined up if he was more mature?I was talked into voting one time by my husband. Back in 1992 when  the 3rd party candidate Ross Perot was on the ballot.Hubby was a naturalized  US citizen and wanted to act American by voting. Had me all on the Perot band wagon too.Just another billionaire in the end...In the US they set up stalls everywhere to register people to vote. Outside the Dept. of motor vehicles, even parking lots. The hound you to sign up, it is best to say I am already registered then to tell them you do not vote.My deceased sister was a volunteer when Clinton was running. He had everyone fooled into thinking he was different.     All my friends vote, I try to avoid any conversations about the subject with them because they still believe.Hard to argue with a ,True Believer.I like they way native Americans describe voting, different wings on the same bird.        -@Marilyn Tassy

That's a good native American saying.  I like that.

On the other hand, you should go to vote, especially if the candidates have loopy views.   You can always spoil your ballot paper if you object.  That way your objection is registered.

Apparently Trump's VP chancer JD Vance has said the UK could become an Islamist state with nuclear weapons. That's another lunatic who might be in charge of the asylum.

His wife is of Indian origin, so what's he saying?  Indians (who might be Muslims) are going to be calling the nuclear shots?  We've just had an election where the ousted incumbent PM was of Indian origin.   And that Vance guy spent time in the UK at University along with his wife. He should know that we don't do Muslim extremists any worse than extremists with AR15s in the USA.

Or was JD Vance just talking sh** for the redneck plebs?

I wish I knew how to cut and paste or whatever so I did not need to bring up the entire quotes..

Bare with me.

We are much better, really is time to head to Balaton.

This summer is much hotter then last year, if it become a habit here, I do not want to spend my summers here, winter either... Hmm, time to find , happier hunting grounds??

Our neighbor lives in direct sunlight on the other side of the building, on the top floor.

Poor thing, she should defo invest in an AC unit.

I read a local info site in the old neighborhood in Vegas. Someone mentioned they got a power bill in Vegas for $900.!!! Insanity!!

I think the powers that be are trying to take back whatever savings people have by overcharging for everything.

$900! Is more then we used to pay in rent when we lived there on our own without staying with our boy.

Guess it was a long while ago by the looks of the latest prices!

No, I will  not vote, not worth my time to even fill out the forms required.

Maybe if they gave a kick back like they do in some places that we know about...Time is money after all.

Just kidding.

I heard that recently while introducing Zelensky,  Insane Biden told the people, welcome President Putin!!

In yet another intro he said while introducing his VP Harris , he said, My VP Mr. Trump!

WTH sort of clown show is going on?

The whole thing is a sick joke.

So far in the US some people are saying he was hit by glass and not shot.Others say it was staged.Hard to believe people hate him so much. What about the poor spectators who were hurt of killed?Another reason we never go to any rallies, never know who is in the crowd or what could happen.Crowds freak me out.        -@Marilyn TassyI don't think it's hard to believe at all.  He's been spouting all sorts of divisive speech for years.  And some people will believe a convicted felon who recommended people drink bleach to cure COVID.  Perhaps it's a case of reaping what one sows.   I saw, MTG and others like her say it's a Democrat plot and presumably, she and the others like her believe everyone should arm themselves.  Bit rich as it seems like free access to guns brought about this situation.   The shooter wouldn't have had much chance of getting that close to bumping Trump off if he'd been armed with a stick.        -@fluffy2560

Ross Perot was a bit of a right wing nut job albeit a rich one.  He founded EDS which had very strange hiring policies and odd rules to be an employee. Very hire 'em and fire 'em.   Not the kind of person one would want associate with really as an employee.

I was thinking of them as a potential employer - they were owned by GM - and at the time, EDS was one of those companies IT people went to.  But the employee rules were grossly unpopular amongst liberal students so no-one want to be one of them.  I don't think they could get away with it nowadays what with staff shortages etc and the more liberal policies of Google or Facebook and certainly not in a European context of workers rights.

One of my brothers works for a US company and his European contract is very different to his US co-workers.  They are astounded by his holiday allowances, health care and pension provisions.  He's been there quite a long time (maybe >15 years) and is edging towards retirement perhaps in 3 or 4 years time.

My Dad was a boy soldier at 14 and was just old enough in 1942 to go to war properly (and be in the aftermath of D-Day).  He was a vehicle mechanic apprentice.  It was a safe job in the background until 6 June 1944.  I don't think it was an adventure.

Couple of times I've been motivated to think about "helping" in some kind of conflict.  One was when the Berlin wall came down and the other was the invasion of Ukraine.  But at 63, nearly 64, I'm likely to be a hazard and nuisance.  I did get a bit involved in another country facing civil war where I helped someone native to that country leave. Probably the only thing I could do under the circumstances.

Marilyn Tassy

Mr Fluffy, we may need trained military civilians to protect their neighborhoods in the future if the world goes more topsy turvy.

Missed the whole systems down news on Monday until I happened to catch some evening news.

It looks like things are so fragile with online systems depending on each other and crashing.

People will lose their ever loving minds if they lose access to the money in banks.

It is not like I have zillions of bucks in the bank but we would hate to lose a penny due to some silly online scam where they zero out all accounts over night.

All those years of nickel and dimming ourselves for nada...

That would be the great equalizer, no money any longer, everyone have a redo from zero.

For some people that would be great news and for others the end.

IDK, is it too late to buy gold, can not eat gold though...

Money is protected in EU banks to the sum of €100,000 in each account.

But what happened on Friday, was a silly bug in a security update. It brought the systems down that used Microsoft hardware.

Quite strange as it effected the healthcare in Tyrol, but in Lower Austria and Vienna there was no issues.

Another problem was with the airports around the globe, some airlines weren't affected but others came crashing down.

IT problems persist.

I had problems even this morning booking travel.   It was really slow and I had to try 3 times to get it to work.

I think it really shows how dependent we've become.  I've been having a minor discussion with colleagues about introducing new IT systems into a very antiquated paper driven office.

I did say to him, we'll either get hacked or we'll get zapped by someone's incompetence so let's make sure we have a Plan B.   No answer yet.

Oddly, the biggest problem we have in modernisation is taking customer payments.  Technologically it's a no brainer but highly dependent on all parts of the system working correctly.  If you cannot take payments, it's a dead duck.

Cynic

The computer issues in the NHS seem to be centred around which system was in use.  SystemOne users seem to have been unaffected; the fact is that over the years, the old paper records have been transferred to digital with no possibility of going back.

Bit of a shocker but seems rational.  I reckon he has Parkinson's disease.

He had a senior moment where he DIDN'T endorse Kamala and then subsequently DID endorse her.

Kamala Harris is obviously younger, female and black.

Interestingly, what does the Teflon Don do now?  His enemy is unknown.

Apparently all his said was "Crooked Joe Biden.....".     Big Yawn, come on Donny, have you got anything else?

Going to be interesting to see what in new Donny's attack plan?

zif

He did this by letter. On Twitter.

I'm left with a horrible sense of unease that America for all practical purposes doesn't have a President at the moment.

SimCityAT

@fluffy2560

Donny has already had a meltdown, as if he still thinks Biden is a threat. Watching the news, they are shitting themselves, they could attack Biden with his age, the last 4 years.... But now they have no one to attack.

I think Harris will be now picked, and she is qualified. She has been a Senator, Attorney General, District Attorney and of course Vice President.

Every job she's had she has tackled crime and cleared backlogs.

Yes, he remembered he had to endorse her.

I think we're all safe despite him stepping down and it all seeming rudderless.

It's not just him running the country - he's just the visible conductor, he's not writing the music.

This is one big soap opera.

Big question is who Kamala is going to pick for VP.

There's a chance for some "swamp drainage" and new blood.

The Transport Secretary with the unpronounceable name might be a pick for VP.

I can see it appealing to a lot of people - black, female President plus a gay VP.   That covers a lot of bases.

Perhaps we have to keep in mind, if Trump is re-elected, that's his swansong AND he's only got 4 years to make a difference.  Possibly internal factions will stop him doing anything mad.  Not everyone in his camp will believe his BS.

In the meantime, I hope Biden Trump-proofs support for Ukraine.   He could transfer a very large amount of the remaining arsenal of weapons and equipment to Ukraine - flying it in non-stop until the handover.  He's got 6 months to do it.

Other bits like SCOTUS need serious reform.  Cannot see that happening in 6 months.

fluffy2560

As of this morning, media outlets report Kamala has received $50M in donations overnight.

Looks like the fanbase has dug deep.

Good grief, the clown show is really hitting the road this election year.

As a born American, I am outraged they are pulling this on the public.

Anyone with half a brain cell could see Biden has issues and never should of been on the ballot.

It was elder abuse to have him running.

Who put Harris on the ballot? I will not be shocked if they bring in Michelle or Big Mike as some say as a last minute candidate.

I will not be shocked if in Nov. we see civil unrest start in the US.

Babylon the great is falling.

Harris hasn't been put on the ballot, it's all still up in the air. This is breaking news and has never happened before so it's complicated.

IDK, I felt like my savings was more secure back when the teller would fill in a book for you and stamp it then having accounts online that can  vanish  overnight.

My husband read a very short hard to find article about changes in the FDIC backing up your accounts.

They seem to always put the real info on the back pages in hopes no one notices what they are doing.

Yes, I may be a bit paranoid but why should we trust their systems?

He also read some new ruling that will be happening sooner or later.

\About socialized medicine going private.

The WHO is behind it all.

They will be insisting  that people get 3 big tests first. One is a colon scope. That is going to take time and money to get people prepped and tested for that exam.

Not like they really care about our health at all, more like they might be seeing how effective their GMO foods are working on us.

Colon scope tests are not easy to conduct in large masses. It can show allot about the general health of a person, a DRE is much faster and seems to give more accurate results. Having had many people close to me pass away from colon cancer, I know in reality, they can not really cure anyone, it is really hit or miss.

They want to know the general health of the population, not sure what their agenda is but they have one.

Isn't there some problem that Biden-Harris is the fund raiser?

If some other person gets in, they won't have access to the funds raised for others?

Apart from that, I heard Harris is now officially nominee for the President at some Federal Elections oversight body or something.

On paper,  Harris is a strong candidate.  But reality is that she's hardly been noticeable - at least to us over here.

I am really wondering - and it's the biggest question for me - is what Donny is going to say and do?   He'll have to get his lackys to recast his strategy. And do it fast.  There's no way Donny can keep up with her in a debate.  And Vance isn't going to debate her.

We'll have to see how Kamala works the crowd.  I'd like to see her say "Klaatu barada nikto".  Not for Biden but for all of us if Trump is back in charge.  1f609.svg

European socialised medicine is not going private.  That's absolute nonsense.  And the WHO has nothing to do with any of that.

There would be riots in the streets if anyone tried to replace free medical care at the point of use. There's no way we can have millions of people dying in the street in front of private hospitals.   Sure, some people will be missed, but the vast majority will be taken care of.   There might be reform but it's not going to disappear.

BTW, one way they tell the health of the nation is to sample sewage.   They can tell a lot about things like area drug use from sewage samples.  They used it to track COVID as well.

In my own country, they do automatic and free bowel screening on those over 60 every 2 years.   If they detect something in someone's bowel products (sh*t)  - usually blood - then it's hospital appointment time and a camera.

As for FDIC, Federally Insured banks has to be the way to go.   That or a sock under the matress.

As a person who is in remission ATM, I am thinking twice about any further rectal exams.

Waste of time in my case, they can not scope me due to radiation damage.

Have to treat me like a baby and use child size equipment on me. Which they never do so they only do a half exam, waste of time and money not to mention the torture of it all.

The things they do not tell you before signing the dotted line...

I have had 2 scopes and one DRE in less then 3 years, once was recently.

Not good to take that prep as it removes all good things from a lifetime in your gut.

Now I take a dose of sourkraut whenever I remember to do so.

They do not tell you anything about replacing good bacteria in your system or anything at all about diet or vitamins.

Dr. Berg on Utube is my guru as far as knowing about herbs , vitamins and keto foods.

They wouldn't need to do anything.  It'd be captured by IT support staff in the background or remotely by a contractor.  The microfilm fiches are written directly from the computer output so there's no typing involved.   Modern microfilm has an estimated longevity of 500 years under ideal conditions.   That's longer than CD or DVD - those rated at 100 years or so.  Imagine trying to find a CD player in 100 years!  But microfilm all you need is power, lamp and a magnifying glass.

Not seen any payment issues hereabouts.  Cash machines operating OK.   Many people like pensioners are still collecting their money in cash at the post offices and paying their bills there.  In cash.  Nothing can go wrong with cash.

They don't want to risk any players from their A Team against Trump.

It's not just that Trump has a big perhaps unbeatable lead. It's that a presidential campaign put together in just a few days will likely be a disorganized mess. It is not going to make the candidate look good.

If you were Newsom would you really want to run this year?

I don't know about that.  Why sacrificial lamb? Surely we need to wait for polls to come out and see the new state of play.  By the end of the week, we'll see if the gap has closed.  Kamala needs to up her exposure.

And besides, surely Harris wasn't waiting in the wings twiddling her thumbs.  She must have been an active participant somewhere in the machine that wants to elect Biden.

I would think Kamala would have Trump more on the ropes.  I'd like to think her training as a prosecutor would have been useful in a debate.  Trump would be facing an entirely new enemy, one that actually was able to think clearly and be used to refuting claims while on her feet.   I don't know about her legal skills but they have to be better at putting a case forward than Trump's.

Which most are lies. Saying they are importing criminals from prison from Mexico! Lies.

He says a lot of things which some people who haven't  got  critical thinking skills believe.

I am sure the founding fathers did not envisage the age of fake news, Facebook, X or Instagram.

Since we have not lived in the US for a long time, it is hard to know exactly what is really going on there.

I know rents are insane, very high and jobs may be paying a bit more but people are getting less hours and no health coverage with their part time jobs.

I know if we moved back, we would be dipping in our savings each month or finding a job because SS alone does not cut it any longer.

My nearly 77 year old sister works and collects SS. She is still low income by normal standards.

I am not voting so really have no dog in the fight.

I really do feel there will be unrest no matter who wins in Nov.

I have a strange feeling that one of the Obamas is going to enter the clown show or possibly that terrible gov. on Ca. Newsome.

The US is never going to be a powerful nation again no matter what they try to do or say.

Illegals, I have run into my fare share of them years ago. Yes, most just want to have a better life but they also bring down the standards for working class people.

They do import criminals as well as hard working people, can not say any of them are honest since they entered illegally.

Many migrants are victims of their own countrymen which is horrible. Slave trade, organ harvesting and many dark things. They are victims of crimes and have little to no recourse for justice.

We've got a large amount of tomatoes from our garden at the moment.  I'm making Tomato Chutney this morning.  Got enough for 3 jars of 0.5L each.  And I've just been told we'll have no water until midnight due to pipe replacement in the area.  That's just great.  And with 5 minutes notice. I'm filling up saucepans, buckets and any other containers I can find.

It's still worth voting if you can.  Not voting means "dishonourable gentlemen", convicted felons, liars and corrupt people or otherwise including some obvious Supreme Court  or Florida federal justices get a free pass to do whatever they want.  Teflon Don could shoot you on 5th Avenue and get away with it so long as it was official duty.  Assassinating Marilyn could become official duty.

We shouldn't blame migrants for wanting a better life.  I've seen some absolute poverty in Africa Asia and some supposedly better places like Egypt.  You wouldn't wish that on your worst enemy.  Except Putin of course.  Many Russians live in poverty because of Putin. Be the same in other countries - policies of governments or natural disaster etc cause people to flee.  Cannot blame them really.

I am not against anyone willing to improve their lives. After all, my husband left illegally from Hungary and was a refugee in the US.

My father also was an American born, immigrant from Poland. His father was born in the US but his mom was born in Poland.

The old Ellis Island adventure in the late 1920s.

I watched a documentary years ago that mentioned the US stopped excepting people from Slavic countries somewhere around the 1920s, at least they made it harder on them. I am sure as my grandmother was an amputee with 2 young children on arrival, she would of been sent back home if not for the fact her husband was a US citizen.

My friend in AZ is really getting political on me, of course she is pro Kamilla.

IDK, I am the only person I know that does not vote.

I may of been influenced by my old religious background as a JW when I was a child. I voted one time and it felt weird to me , have have a different sort of moral compass as most people have.

Not saying I know a secret, just not my thing to pick sides. I figure they all are against everyone of us and they will do what they wish no matter what we want.

Neither of my parents ever voted, my step father would but not my mother.

As far as  taking Marilyn out, I already think they would take me out the first chance they could if it fit their agenda.

Fresh grown tomatoes, yummy!

I do miss those, my MIL had the best tomatoes ever.

She once made homemade tomato soup and asked me to taste test it for her.

I did not really feel hungry but did her a favor. Ate the entire bowl full. Asked to my surprise for a second bowl then a 3rd bowl, I just could not stop myself ,it was the best soup I ever had in my life.

They are so good for you, cooked they have lutien and raw they are full of vitamin C.

My sister was allergic to them, would blow up every time she had anything with tomato in it.

Hope the jars came out good, bummer about the water being shut off right in the middle of a project.

I keep 5 five liter bottles of water around just in case I am doing my hair and one of our numb nut neighbors shuts the water off due to a repair without informing everyone first.

Just did my hair today and always sort of panic that I will not be able to rinse it out in time due to not having enough water.

Never happened yet but best to be prepped.

Being illegal because one left one's country because of oppression wouldn't be seen as a crime anywhere except a few countries.  If there's oppression, people will go.  And fast.   We often think about how to get out of here if it goes big time wrong.  The obvious thing to do is to flee to Austria but I think everyone will be thinking the same.  Sometimes I wonder about the Jewish folks back in WW2.  When should one time an exit from the country?  Very difficult to judge.  Some people ran away in time and we know what happened to those who didn't.    Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on the Lukoil issue putting pressure on Hungary and Slovakia - we'll see who wins that argument.  I cannot see Ukraine backing down.

As far as it seems now, the President can now assassinate Marilyn or Biden or even Kamala without a problem so long as he did it as part of his "official" duties.   What's "official"?   Well, no-one knows. Thanks very much SCOTUS for muddying those waters.

Not quite Ellis Island but I saw an article on the Statue of Liberty.  It's not built for so many tourists.  Apparently it's possible to get to the top of the flame by a ladder. I think it's closed to visitors, only the crown is accessible.

I once went up a giant horse in Mongolia.  That one had a lift inside it!

As i turned out, they didn't cut the water off at all.   Makes no sense to tell people the water is going off and then do nothing.

More importantly, Mrs F joined in the Chutney Carnival and made some fig chutney.    And I must say, it's really very nice indeed.  She put raisins in it and anything with raisins for me is heaven.   The figs came from Mrs F's mother's garden.

We're getting a bowl full of tomatoes each day.  Mrs F is planning to cook them up and put them in storage jars.  We do that most years.  Makes a good base for sauces etc.

It's a bit hard to say if we should bother growing them as the price has dropped considerably - apparently 250 HUF a kg in Aldi I believe.  It's a special offer.

Some of our tomato plants have some issue.  I think the damaged plants will have to be thrown away as whatever is wrong will affect the good ones.  I've noticed some bugs on some of them.   I wish I knew how to get rid of the bugs.  I do not like spraying.  Mrs F says there's a natural flower we can plant alongside and it'll keep the bugs away.  We've missed it this year.

For some reason we've got some marrows growing now.   We make our own compost and probably seeds are in the compost from stuff we've consumed and the seeds are just waiting to grow.

I do love fresh figs, chutney is very nice.

Strange how tomatoes went from 1,200 to less then 300 forints.

Yes, buy now, store because sooner or later the prices will go sky high again.

My MIL also used to store veggies for winter.

I do not have the space to store allot of items.

Too much junk up in our loft already.

We are growing a small tomato plant in our window box but it is just for fun, do not expect a crop to pop up.

I have some fantastic news about my little brother.

He may of had a stroke while in the ICU so his right side is a bit weak but he is improving everyday and has a positive outlook.

He will be getting fit hopefully in 5 days or so for a new leg!!

He is not taking too many oxy pills for pain because he does not want to get hooked on them.

A few weeks ago, his wife wrote telling me he was in so much pain with his PT that he was screaming and crying, sounds like he is coming along much better now.

I am investigating suppliments that may help in his faster recovery. One we just started taking ourselves a day ago. Called Tudca. Suppose to help rebuild nerve endings, help with heart issues, inflamation of the liver and organs, stroke victims etc. Seems too good to be true but worth a try. Also suppose to help with dementia.

Now if we could find more fresh dark green veggie , that would be nice.

My SIL mentioned that my bros recovery was harder because his ex wife and his son gave him that meth in the iCU.

Oh, what were tehy thinking? She filed a police report but since his own son was involved  I am not sure how hard they are pressing the issue.

I let my mind go to the dark place and thought about insurance policies.

I asked her if he had one for his son, my bro had a decent job working for the state of Ca. then with the city. They usually throw in some sort of life insurance with the jobs.

She said yes, he has one for his son and knowing how trusting my bro is, he probably told them about it in the past.

Man, how evil can his ex be? My bro does not wish to think his son had it in for him but did not put it past his ex. Well, his 33 year old son was in the room when it was given to my brother so he is not innocent in my eyes.

Sad to see how low people can get when they are druggies.

My husband refuses to think they could be so evil but I watch enough crime shows to know better.

Money, the root of all evil.
