An interesting read - @SimCityAT

That just about covers it.

Perhaps it wouldn't make any difference but clearly the City Council is going to have to come up with an explanation.

Marilyn Tassy

The fish preservation is true, whether it stopped the water flowing when the fire began is another matter and I suspect may be politics, but there is/was water in the reservoirs. The hydrants ran dry because of the action of the city in turning off the power at a critical point when the fire first started (it was part of the city procedure of what to do etc) - it was a clusterf**k, then the fire ate all the power lines and poles, and it all became a moot point which still exists today and will probably need the Corps of Engineers to sort out at a Federal level. - @CynicThe fish apparently didn't stop them pumping. The LAFD said if the power cables were in the ground, they wouldn't had to turn them off. They were a danger to the firefighters. But it's the same here. We have switchgear on the outside of our house which enables the fire service to turn off power to the house in the event of an emergency. But we also have overground power cables here in Hungary although not in my street. In other streets nearby, they put the cables under the ground after they built/revamped a new substation. But they didn't get as far as us.In places I've been in the USA, I am amazed how ugly and messy the street cabling is. It's far worse than here. From what I've seen, a large number of places here do not have overhead cabling in new build residential streets. It's a lot safer for emergency services. I don't know about the Corps of Engineers. My US colleague told me he was restricted by them building his Florida house on a waterway because of some plant growing there. He said it was quite a fight to get it done. I think he prevailed in the end. - @fluffy2560Pumping - fish, quite true (Delta Smelt), they have a State body devoted to this matter.Trumps claim to offer Federal aid to move water to California was made in 2020, he claims now it was not to provide water to fight fires, rather the water could be used on the ground to prevent fires starting in the first place; whether this was a proven method of fire prevention, I don't have a scooby; to quote one of your former colleagues, "not me chief, I'm air frames", however, I know what regulatory governance can do and if Trumps claim is/was valid, then the State bodies are in it up to their neck. I read they have now brought in portable generators from out of state, this has solved the water shortage to the hydrants; interestingly, it also seems to indicate that they hadn't thought to have any generators of their own for when their own procedure dictates that power is shut down.What stopped them pumping was no electricity to run the pumps because of the daft things you mentioned - i.e. overhead cables and power thingies; the fact that they do this nationwide and also tend to build stick-frame buildings for people to live in would lead me to believe that some clever person had done some kind of risk assessment of this activity that would prevent non-federal agencies doing incredibly stupid things in the name of conservation and perhaps make provision of generators compulsory in each state where they do it.Corps of Engineers are a federal body, they have enforcement power in specific areas if they chose to use it (link) and are already active in conservation in the US. - @Cynic
I read online that the LAFD budget was cut last year by something like $17M. I don't know if that would have meant they would have had generators to pump. They will have a bigger budget next time.... and a reorganisation (i.e. some will fall or be pushed on their swords). Building codes will change, possibly with more gravity distribution via storage/buffer tanks, less firewood in buildings, more concrete (also good for quakes), larger spacing between houses, regular removal of brush fuel surrounding housing areas.
Here, a plot must have 5m free between houses. But our houses are made out of bricks and concrete. The only real fuel would be wood in the roof and flammable insulation on the outside of buildings (think Grenfell) or just stuff inside. But we also do not have compulsory fire/smoke detectors, RCDs (for electricity) but we do have compulsory chimney and boiler inspections and cleaning. If we see burnt houses here, usually it's the roof that's missing but the stairs, walls inside and out, are still there.

p.s. I was Green RAF, i.e. Rockapes. - @fluffy2560

  I am not up on building codes in Ca; but with all their earthquakes, brick homes are not really a thing.

I know when we reinforced  the back of our brick wall to make it stronger and higher we took measures to keep it from falling over during a quake.

My BIL from HU came to do allot or work on our home. We took down the back wall after letting the neighbor know, no cost to him. Put in metal support rods and made the wall about 2 feet higher.

Had a contractor do the brick wall in the side/front of our corner lot. Did that years before we did the back wall; Heard they withstood that Northridge quake after we moved away.

My old neighbor; Doris from Texas, a sweet old lady in her 80s, had 2 children; Her girl was cute, saw a photo of her. poor thing passed at UCLA at age 19 from Lupus. She was in training to be a nurse and flight attendant and feel ill. No one knew what was wrong with her so they sent her to isolation at UCLA. Her son was a doll to her. She was a high level city planner, super busy guy but he made sure to take lunch a few days per week at his moms home to keep her company.

Funny lady making huge roast beef dinners for his lunch.

Anyways, as a city planner he could not even get a 4 way stop sign put on our street. His mom wanted one so badly, it happened but many years after she passed on.

My cousins wives childhood home burnt down in Palisades. Emotional thing I guess.

Yesterday my SIL shared how difficult it is for her ATM to check my bro in and out of rehab so he can get used to the world outside again. She said he was like checking out a book from the library. What a hassle!

She is not suppose to lift heavy things and she needs to help support him a bit in and out of the car. His leg is ready but so far it looks like they have not given it to him yet or are still making adjustments on it.

He should be going home soon.

She posted a photo of him which made me both happy and very sad. In his wheelchair smiling but without a leg. His hair had turned grey , the stress and the illness took a toll on him; He looks older then I do now!

I am glad so far he is safe from those fires, it would be too much if he was in danger again.

Not cool!

Many with holiday homes are going to regret having them;

I assume this is the same for anyone outside of the EU membership?

Was looking at Portugal for a min. forget it now for sure.

So many countries are unfair to anyone outside their little circle.

One thing I do think is good about the US is they do not pull these stuff on none Americans, they tax everyone depending on where their property is located no matter if you are a US Vet or just a newbie to the country.

On Monday we went to the big office of NAV here in Budapest. I got an e mail from them and it was not clear what they wanted.

We owe nothing and all is good. They are linked up with city hall and the message was just about redoing the online portal with city hall for information from medical tests to police reports related to ones self. For a min; we thought the worst like they are finding some crazy loop hole here to find a way to tax my little income, no, not that bad, not just yet!

That's a bit hyped up clickbait  It's not specifically aimed at British people, just 3rd country nationals.  And of course, it's aimed at placating domestic audiences.

In any case, instead of Spain, people could go to Croatia or Montenegro.  That's money not in Spanish pockets.  Weather looks good in Dubrovnik right now. Be 15C at the weekend.

But once again, the Brexit non-benefits are plain to see.

We also got blasted about them changing the system for getting services.

They are abandoning the old system and instituting a new one.  Nothing really important.  It's actually an exercise in cost cutting as it stops people going to the government window for trivial requests.  It probably costs $20 to answer a question at a physical government window but $2 to do it online.

For us as 3rd country nationals, we don't really have any choice but to go there physically to satisfy their BS.  For most people, contact is only at certain life events which might be once every few years.  Unfortunately with all these things, one size doesn't fit all.  Getting a straight answer is never easy. especially here in HU.   I loathe the ignorance of public services.

Even the admin in the UK has become unwieldy.  I've just had to apply for our daughter's UK passport renewal.  They ask for information they already have and they even tell you the wrong thing!  No apologies from them - ever.  And a UK passport is about 10 x the price of a HU one.  Utterly deranged.  It's not even possible to get a proper one at an Embassy.   They could cut the staff there down to about 2-3 people as no-one knows what they do.  They are invisible to the vast majority of us, their customers.

I'd better get snow shovelling.

I didn't know Lupus could be fatal.  That's not good but I did read that some forms mean people live a normal lifespan whereas others really get clobbered.

I don't know about earthquake foundations in CA but they do put very large buildings on bearings which can wobble a bit.  I saw a TV programme about it on Discovery or somewhere.  I worked once in a like 15 story building in central Asia which was being built by the Chinese. I asked the main building guy if it was earthquake proof and he looked blank - I asked him via an English-Russian translator and then a second translator did Russian-Chinese.  So who knows what he really heard or what the translators said.   Possibly what did you have for breakfast? Or how is your camel?  Are there eels in your hovercraft? No idea.  Well, that was some time ago and they haven't had a significant earthquake. And I'm not there.  Not my problem!   One thing which concerned me is he had the number 88 on his hard hat.  8 being lucky in Chinese so I guess that was his form of insurance against bodged engineering by him or his colleagues. I've been in several buildings in Asia which are quite dodgy and could easily collapse in a quake.

The fires in CA seem to be dropping off the news.  Presumably it's going to be usurped by Gaza and Trump taking up his Tools again.  God knows what that's going to be like.  We'll all find out on Wednesday.  I wonder if Trump will join the Village People on stage dancing to YMCA.  What a horrible thought.  The cop is the only original one left.  Must be about 80 years old!

I guess your bro's life without a leg is a reality now for him that he has to be in a wheelchair sometimes and his false leg is on the way from the leg mechanics.  Does your SIL have to pay a fine if she returns him late (like at a library)?

My friend in Hawaii has Lupus but she manages it, yoga, good fresh air, eats healthy.

My old neighbors daughter was in school in another state getting her nursing training to go into the airlines when she got ill;

This was maybe around 1958?

She was sent home to Ca; and put in isolation at UCLA. They had no clue what was wrong with her so isolated her from everyone.

She was the first case they ever had of Lupus.

Cute little all American girl, so sad.

It was my brain child husband idea to reinforce our brick wall, he did not want it to go down in the next earthquake. He was right, many walls came down in that neighborhood in the Northridge quake but ours was still standing.

One quake we had when we lived in our home made the pool sway so much we lost a good foot of water.

My husband went into the crawl space under our home after that and said IDK, loads of cracks in the foundation. It passed the inspection when we sold the house so who knows how many house are really hardly standing? We sold for a few reason and him not wanting to find out how good the foundation was  was one reason to sell. We had earthquake insurance but still...

My husband read that OV is very upset that he was not invited to the Trump party on the 20th.

Hungary is a small player I suppose and he wants larger countries to be there and not get into it with OV.

Hmm, like not having a d    ate or being invited to a childs BD party.

If one has the worst Lupus, it's likely to be fatal eventually but other forms, almost normal lifespans.  I guess treatments have really improved.

My parents had a house which had some kind of brick cancer.   The bricks were turning to dust.  It was an old house and the bricks had to be 80-90 years old way back then.  We obviously didn't have earthquakes there.  And no termites. In any case, all wood is well treated using pressure infusions to prevent rot  We've got a shed out back and I don't think it really has any proper foundations although it does have a root cellar full of sand.  It's been here at least 50 years.  I doubt a quake would shift it.  The roof needs replacing for sure.  It's absolutely a bodged thing.

We were discussing that OV wasn't invited to Trump's party. Of course, us anti-OV people will be enjoying OV's discomfort.  We hope it hurts his mind. A lot.  Like his head implodes.

Of course, Hungary is inconsequential to the USA.  It's too small.  And as many wannabe Trumpists in Donny's posse say, it's America first and that unsurprisingly, that doesn't include Hungary. It also doesn't include all the other Putinist minions around here like Slovakia's Fico.   Fico guy is having a mental breakdown as well over Russian gas.   What did he think was going to happen and what did he do to mitigate it?  Obviously nothing. Everyone else in the EU did something and they aren't suffering now.    Just another day in paradise positively nudging my schadenfreude meter.

Marilyn Tassy

My neighbors daughter was the first reported case of Lupus in the US.

Or at least the first case that was isolated and given a name.

What a thing to be famous for!

My husband just read a online report from a doctor about foods people over age 70 should not eat.

Suppose to be pain for you kidneys.

Bananas,oranges and avacados; She must be a quack!!

Not giving up my avos!!

No mention of avoiding a big Mac and fries.Speaking of kindneys... My Vegas friend had a terrible pain for days.

This was a couple weeks ago.

Her husband took her to the ER to find out why;

5 hours of tests and was told it was some thing to do with her kidneys.

She takes way too many pain pills and NASAIDS. She lives off of them, just a matter of time until she messed up her kindeys or liver.

Well, the thing is she got the bill for those 5 hours. She printed it out to show me because I might not believe it.

Over $32,000!!!! Since she is on Medicare her portion of payment is only $120. but who is picking up the major tab? Of course the tax payers!!

If Trump can even fix the broken medical system in the US he will go down in history.

Doubt anything good will come from him but we can always dream!

I noticed we have over 10,000 replies on this post. Do we really BS that much or what?

Enjoy the lousy weather, too cold to hang out outdoors for long but not cold enough for snow and the fun that comes from that. I miss sledding but too lazy to get up to the mountains.

Yes. it's 10K replies on this thread.  We should be proud of that statistic!  Amazing we can all waffle on endlessly about this and that.

I think that $32K medical bill isn't really what it cost.  It's the US crazy health system hyped up.  It's probably 1/3 of that really.  Just making it up, it could be 1/3 for the Docs, 1/3 for the hospital services etc and 1/3 profit for the shareholders.  Having a problem like Lupus will bankrupt the patient and the patient's family.  It's hard to fathom from over here.

Those painkillers and NSAIDs can really screw people up.  Very oddly they can cause tinnitus which may or may not disappear when one stops taking them.  Best to avoid them.   Very difficult I know.  Makes you wonder if taking up with the medicinal ganga might help?   Perhaps she's got a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and it moved into her kidneys.  Could be fixed with some antibiotics.

I was walking the dog. It's super snowy and crispy out there. Car park was empty.  No-one really walking in the snowy wastelands. Dog was happy though. She always is.

BTW, I saw a video of one legged footballers in Ukraine - victims of the war.   They are pretty good on those crutches. Worth a look at the video on Euronews - click here.

Marilyn Tassy

I know my bro will be glad just to be able to walk and go home. Not ever going to see him playing football.

I wonder sometimes about those handicapped people who never ran a race in their lives then after an injury to must run and prove something. Prove what to who?

My friend with Lupus is fine, the one in the wheelchair in Vegas is always suffering with something or other.

It is sad but at times she focuses too much on herself and even acts at times like her husbands cancer was against him taking care of her.

All good, she takes those gummies with THC everyday. At times I think she is so high she does not come back to earth;

I am in contact with her after she reached out to me after a couple of yeaers of no contact;

I had enough, she went nuts in Vegas when my BFF Lisa came to visit me and we invited her to join us.

She was in some sort of mood and lashed out at us. No idea what set her off but she was too much.

Her husband and mine left us 3 women alone for hours so we could enjoy each others company.

Within the first 5 mins aftr they let Lisa and I wanted to roll Char out of the hotel room.

She ruined our visit by it being all about her and going off on us out of nowhere;

So High school and stupid of her.

I was very hurt too see those two screaming at each other. I was having such a fun time until she showed up.

She can be too much, always the super liberal even when it goes against herself.

I remember one visit to Vegas we shared one car and lived at the other end of Vegas from Char;

She sort of expected me to jump whenever she wanted me to dos something with her on a 5 mins notice.

Maybe her husband jumps but not me;

She got very mad when I did not wish to join a suicide march in Vegas. My friend Holly did herself in at age 33 so Char was playing the guilt card with me, come march for Holly;

I did not have the heart to tell Char that every time she came around Holly hated it, did not like Char at all.

So silly to be old and still play childish games.

My husband thinks Chars husband needs a gold star because he would never put up with the things he does.

He said if he was her husband he would of run for the hills years ago. He raised her two bratty daughters, they never had their own child but her girls expect him to help pay their bills etc; No respect.

My husband can not hang out with them because it is hard for him to keep quiet about things like that.

Long story but I do not think Char has been sober  for years.

Marilyn Tassy

I do not understand how people go through life expecting others to do for them and live up to their expectations.

Like Chars one daughter who had all her rent, auto insurance and bills paid for by her step father for years and years.

When the money ran out she stopped speaking to her mother and step dad; Does not even send a greeting     card on the holidays;

I think she learned that behavior from her mother , my Vegas friend.

She also has unreal expectations from people.

Being handicapped is horrible but she uses it as a weapon at times, other times she will not except help.

I remember in the Vegas hotel room when she went nuts she was on about everything under the sun;

Talk about carrying baggage.

She was even mad at me because my son was too tall. She did not like looking up at him from her chair!

Lisa got so mad at her that she put her hands around her throat!

I was speechless and just sat watching with tears running down my face. I was not crying but had tears coming down in pain.

I do not really trust Char after seeing her true nature.

She was super mad at me for not wanting to push her chair down the strip for a animal rights protest or for not wanting to join hurt broken people in a march against suicide.

She said I was a terrible friend.

In fact the day of her rant she again wanted us to join some sort of protest and we were not interested.

My friend Lisa spent 5 long hours on a bus to visit me and the last thing she or I wanted was to join a bunch of arches in the streets.

I think I am just remembering how silly and selfish people can be.

My eldest sister wrote me to say how hard it is putting up with our useless half sister. 5 months and she still has not looked for work!

Now her bills are due and she wants the eldest to pay them for her!

She spent her little blood plasma money on a new blue tooth set and some items for herself. Just so thick headed and selfish.

I told the eldest not to cover her bills, even if she is fined for paying them late. How else is she going to learn to take care of herself?

At what age do people take responsibility for themselves?

I was 18 and paid my own way, mistakes and all.

I know I have gotten dependant on having my husband but still, never just run out and buy a new phone and blue tooth thing without first asking if it is alright and if it is practical.

Yeah, small steps for your bro.   But it was interesting to see how agile they were/  But they were all young guys relatively and as soldiers, they would have been fit as fiddles before their injuries.   I can appreciate people wanting to take on a challenge.  I mean, life changing injuries or illness makes people re-evaluate their lives.  Not really surprising.

I wondered about some gummies for my back and leg pain issues but not clear it'd do anything.  I don't drink and I don't smoke, so I'm not that keen on taking anything like weed.  In the past I've done had a few spliffs but it's been more than 25 years since I tried any of that when Mrs F and I lived near Amsterdam.  It's was easy to get that stuff  there of course - just get it at a coffee shop.  Maybe things have changed there.  Haven't been for a few years.

I don't think it's that easy to get it here although I  think there's  a commercial farm operating with huge security.  Personally I think all the regulation around weed is misplaced.  I mean, they can hardly regulate people making palinka and that's just rife and potentially just as damaging healthwise. Everyone out in the sticks is at it. So what do they think they can do about a few people with small scale weed farms or a few plants at home?

Marilyn Tassy

Oh, I am more then sure they have private growers here in Hungary.

Silly to chance it though, jails here are not exactly nice.

My Vegas friend does both gummies and smokes. She has some super strong stuff too!

Years ago her husband pulled one out and my hubby took a huge drag on it; Not good, he had not done that in years and years. He got very ill and dizzy.

We are too old to play with that stuff any longer;

I did not even get offered pain pills when in cancer treatments, that is how strict they are here.

I am sure if I begged or cried, they would of offered at least some asprin.

I forgot exactly, think she said 3 gummies for $15. cheaper then booze!

I know smoking when you are in serious pain is not a good idea. You could possibly focus on the pain too much and flip out.

I know allot of people in Hawaii got a jump start with life by growing.

fluffy2560

Oh, I am more then sure they have private growers here in Hungary.Silly to chance it though, jails here are not exactly nice.My Vegas friend does both gummies and smokes. She has some super strong stuff too!Years ago her husband pulled one out and my hubby took a huge drag on it; Not good, he had not done that in years and years. He got very ill and dizzy.We are too old to play with that stuff any longer;I did not even get offered pain pills when in cancer treatments, that is how strict they are here.I am sure if I begged or cried, they would of offered at least some asprin.I forgot exactly, think she said 3 gummies for $15. cheaper then booze!I know smoking when you are in serious pain is not a good idea. $15 for 3 gummies seems crazy expensive to me.  I must be really out of date as I paid something like 5 guilders (way back then!) for a spliff. I cannot even remember how much that was but I seem to think it was maybe $2 or something.  That's inflation for you.  We've got enough connections here to get  some ganga if we really wanted something but I'm not keen on "unofficial" sources. You never know what they'd been cutting it with.   That skunk stuff is especially dangerous.  I heard they dip it in a harder drug solution.

That's crazy they didn't give you pain pills during cancer treatment.   I know in some countries (like specifically UAE) they don't even allow codeine without major consultations.  That's an opioid based pain reducer but hardly cocaine or heroin.  Talk about paranoid.  I wonder if they ever give anyone morphine in desperate situations?  Maybe it's "God's will" to suffer?   Yeah, right!

Mother Theresa said that about sick people she was supposedly "nursing".  People lauded over her but she was inevitably a hypocrite about her behaviour. I bet she had palliative care when her time came.  I heard endless stuff about her when I was in Albania.

Haha, Hemp Oil is used in wood varnish.  Yum! If it doesn't cure anything, at least I'll look shiny and well polished.

My BIL has been taking CBD oil for his Parkinson's but I've not heard it is making any difference.  He's just got worse and worse.  Ultimately, Parkinson's is going to do him in regardless and sooner than later.  I think he'd be better off stoned most of the time.

My problem is now sleeping. I think I really need some micro-surgery on a herniated disk.  I really should do something about it.  That'll teach me for over enthusiastic gardening.

BTW, Hungary is a major grower of hemp (which isn't cannabis) and I remember years ago a story of a large quantity of hemp being exported to somewhere (might have been the USA) and all of it being impounded because local Customs officials didn't know the difference between Hemp (for ropes) and Cannabis.  I don't know what happened in the end but it was a story going around 30 years ago.  Made people laugh.

We bought some CBD tea and another food item here in Hungary.

Did not do a thing;

My old GP here in HU asked my husband if I wanted any pain meds when I was ill. The oncologist never ention a word and I saw 3 of them.

I know our old ex friends here in HU have a connection and live off of xanax.

I would of depended pain meds but honestly it probably would of been worst to not know why I was in another world for months.

I was allergic to the chemo and that did a number on my brain, talk about brain fog!

That is my new excuse if I forget things!

I wonder if it caused me to lose any IQ points, not like I have extra to spare!

When my young 42 or so year old step father was dying from colon cancer, he asked us, Hippies to score him some smoke; I swear he was a straight honest law abiding citizen so him asking was a something.

It did not help with his pain. He had really strong pain meds by script but they just made him fall asleep. he was looking for something where he could stay awake and still not hurt;

For my 15th BD my wild sister scored me a ,Lid of smoke.

It cost $10. at the time;

I was the life of the party for awhile!

I was 12 when she and her husband wanted me to smoke with them; I held out till my 15th year.

I made the major mistake of telling our religious older sister about it. She of course told mom and I was banned from being alone or going to the wild sisters home for a long time.Not sure why mom broke down and allowed me to stay for weeks at a time at their Hippie ranch in Ca; during summer break;

I still never smoked there, was only 14 and was just not interested at all.

They had 6 retired race horses on the property and a beautiful swimming pool, why get high when you can do so many pleasant things instead?

Has anyone heard about how the Sweds think about Hungarians, Romanians an Serbs?

My friend in Sweden went to the doctor for a check up.

He asked her if she had been infected by a vampire during her time in Hungary!

She was waiting for him to laugh but he stayed straight faced!

He told her Hungarians were known to be human flesh eaters during WW1!

That is a first for me, never heard that before.

Crazy how rumors get started.

Well after putting off going out in the cold we must run some errands; Not ready to freeze though.

Mrs Fluffy reminded me about some other useless Customs thing where there were questions because people had poppy seeds on their cakes!   Absolutely twits.  They'd have kittens if they saw goes on here with poppy seeds, pasta and sugar.  I think it's awful but the kids seem to like it. Total teeth rot.

Maybe the Swedish doctor was trying to be funny.  It's not a good idea trying to be funny in professional situations, especially with foreigners.  Who knows who you are going to offend?    Probably the Swede was thinking of Vlad the Impaler but he was Romanian and it wasn't in WW1. Well, only on TV or video games (Castle Wolfenstein - great game, might have had vampires in it).

I think only the THC version of weed would make a difference to pain. CBD oil might as well be snake oil.  I also don't want painkillers that make me sleep too much.  I have enough trouble trying to get over my built in brain fog.

Marilyn Tassy

We never really visit the GP any longer;

They are just pill pushers but the ones the push do not do a thing;

Last visit , well over a year ago the new young female GP told me to try Valeriana to help with some anxiety.

I usually fall asleep like a rock but something was bothering me, forgot what was going on but it passed.

Valeriana has Magnezium and B6.

MG and B vitamins also help with pain and many other issues.

I never took the stuff but do take B vitamins and MG everyday.

My crazy knee issues are much better, hardly think of my knee unless going up too many stairs.

Watched most of the Trump deal yesterday.

Biden sitting there with a smirk on his face and Kamilla looking like she was in shock;

Funny seeing the Trumps walk out with Biden and wave him bye bye;

Mrs. Trump looked nice but her outfit was more fro a funeral then a party.

My husband noticed that Musk raised up his right hand several times, straight fashion like you know who used to demand from his troops?§ Yikes!

Funny how he said we will go to Mars when we forgot how to get to the moon!

Poppy seeds with noodles and sugar is something we rarely eat .I like them better in a strudel.

No that Swedish doctor seemed 100% serious. My friend was waiting for him to laugh or smile but he was dead on serious!

Hard to believe; He waited until her husband was called out of the room to ask her some personal questions about mixing blood with Hungarians, Serbs or Romanians during her time in Hungary!

Crazy!!

He said they all have some sort of blood disorders.

First I have heard of that.

My opinion is that she is black and that tribe has many blood issues such as Cyclic Cell .

Marilyn Tassy

I thought my friend might of been over reacting but it seems not.

No one wants a comedian for a doctor. A warm smile and a few moments of their time is enough.

Can always go to a comedy show if you need a laugh.

Very unprofessional to ask such strange questions about her maybe, lovers, as the doc put it.

I sometimes think the creepiest people become doctors.

Hyaluronic acid shots helped with my knee pain. Not sure they give them in the spine or not, do not see why not.

Cost was 45,000 a shot here, 2 years ago.

They work but take a bit of time. Pain meds are the fast fix.

Yesterday was cold outside but sort of fun too.

Picked up more vitamins from our order place and went to the Great Market Hall.

Those vendors were mostly dead. Their prices are higher on most items then the shops are.

Saw broccoli for sale for nearly 2,000 a kilo, inside Aldi they had it for 699 for 500 grams.

I wonder if those vendors even know how much the shops charge?

I will read up on sickle cell anemia, perhaps my friend has a case of that? She is a bit anemic.

Had 3 blood transfusions a few months ago.

Hope it is nothing serious but they usually do not pump you full of blood for nothing, unless you are Keith Richards!

Talk about vampires!

Various B vitamins are hard to get for vegetarians. Only meat has decent quantities of B12.  Supplements are required for them. I believe B12 can be found in some mushrooms or algae.  I like mushrooms but not keen on the algae.  From what I read we might all be eating algae sausages in the future.

That pasta dish with sugar and poppy seeds is some kind of desert.  It's a nightmare.  I wouldn't touch it as it'd set my blood glucose on fire. I can imagine flames coming out of my head.  I see the kids eating in it.  I really do not like that.  Looks like dental work in the making.

I used to have a lot of respect for GPs and doctors but having seen what they are like here and some of them are like in the UK, I'm now extremely suspicious of them. I wonder sometimes if they are just experimenting on us.

I don't think people around here have blood issues.  That's bonkers.   Some of them have a lot of things wrong with them but it's not all medical.  Sickle Cell I've heard about but as I'm essentially a WASP, it's not going to affect me. Not that I don't have sympathy.

I did see Musk doing the Nazi salute (allegedly), I thought there he goes again. He should have said Kapla! That's Klingon for Success! In the same article it said he had autism.  Well,  he needs to get help for that as his behaviour is not normal. No-one does that publicly and bounces up and down like Tigger from Winne the Pooh.  Apparently he said he was taking Ketamine.  I thought that would put people to sleep not hype them up.  And I heard on the radio Trump is giving Elon Slimeball a desk next door as he'll be Donny's 1st Buddy.  It's lunacy.  Musk is not an elected official or government employee.  Nor should he be welcoming foreign public officials "officially".  That's just weird.

Another commentator said the Chaos King is back.   His 200 Executive Orders are already being lined up for court challenges.  What an utter waste of time and space!  He had no chance of most of those ever being implemented.   That birthright one is laughable - totally unconstitutional.

Did you know that holography was invented in Rugby by the Hungarian born physicist Dennis Gabor in 1947, for which he later received the Nobel Prize?

Dennis Gabor (Blue Plaque 23) lived at 26 Bilton Road.

Denes was born in Budapest Hungary 5th June 1900 to Günszberg Bernát and Jakobovits Adél they later changed their family name to Gabor. Dénes later changed his name to Dennis and after serving in the Hungarian army in Italy in WW1 he came to the U.K. in 1934 to the BTH (British Thompson-Houston) works in Rugby having fled Nazi Germany where he would have been considered Jewish. He worked at the BTH for 15 years and is credited with the invention of Holography. During his time at the BTH he met and married Marjorie Louise Butler in 1936. He left Rugby in 1948 and moved to Imperial College London and became Professor of Applied Physics in 1958 until his retirement in 1967, he got a Noble prize in physics in 1971.

Interestingly he also published a book in 1963 ‘Inventing the future’ where he suggests the main threats to humanity was war, overpopulation and the age of leisure. In 1970 that was followed by another on a similar theme ‘Innovations, scientific technological, and social’

He also was interested in and researched the way we humans communicate and hear.

He retired to Italy where he lived for most of his retirement still getting involved with social analysis and published other works with early warnings about the unfortunate route humanity is taking, one such being ‘Beyond the age of waste’ in 1978.

Dennis died in a nursing home in South Kensington 9th February 1979 near his former home.

Dennis has another blue plaque on that home in Kensington where he lived 1949 to early 60s.

This is good. Hungarians invent loads of stuff but they never do it here.  They always go somewhere else to do it.  They just cannot hold on to people.  It's too small, too badly run, too corrupt and too political.  Even Mrs F's cousin left here to become a scientist first in the UK, got a doctorate from Cambridge Uni and when the UK government didn't appreciate her talents, she left for the USA where she has been for some years and has a very responsible post in a famous university hospital.

Everyone runs away! Even our kids say they are going to leave when they get opportunity.  We're OK with that so long as they come back a lot.

King of Chaos, Herr Strumpf thinks the USA first split the atom.  He's a complete nitwit.  The atom was split in Manchester (UK) by NZ physicist Ernest Rutherford.   Trump has confused splitting the atom in atomic bombs vs doing it (for the first time) in a laboratory.

Hungarians overall are pretty resourceful, logical and smart.

Anytime something breaks down I am not allowed to just run out and replace it.

First my husband must check it out and he gets it fixed 9 times out of 10.

I remember years ago my vacuum , hoover was broken; IDK where he got the parts but he put together about 4 hoovers and presto ; new machine!

Drives me nuts at times because it does not matter if it is a $2.item or $200. item, it first must be inspected by him before getting to ok to buy notice; Must of saved thousands over the years but new is always nice.

I dunno, President Musk doesn't give a damn what people think.  Given  his space ambitions, being a Klingon probably would appeal to him. Kind of fascist state where assassination is the way to advancement.

Musk could live an easy life and be a generous philanthropist but he's decided to interfere in democracy because he's got some silly bees in his bonnet. Even his daughter has emancipated herself from him.  That's done his head in.   But like Musk, it's the same for the other wannabe oligarch billionaires throwing themselves at the feet of King Donny and back tracking on diversity and other human rights.  That'll come back to bite them.

BTW, I notice that Bill Gates hasn't said so much recently.  At least he and his wife are trying to cure Malaria.  No, not Malaria Trump, I mean the disease that kills millions each year.  President Musk should put his efforts into relieving poverty. Or he could do what Howard Hughes did, make movies and design underwired bras for Jane Russell.  Not sure what that was all about.  More lift than the Spruce Goose.

Sickle cell isn't going to affect WASPs (the P is nominal).  We've got other crosses to bear.

But congrats to your bro on his new leg.   The top experts on artificial limbs these days are in Ukraine.  The engineering comes out of Germany (who still sell them to Russia apparently).   I read the US military used to make 2000  prosthetics a year during WW2 but Ukraine is making 2000 a month.   Your bro will be fine.

I did know that but was in a hurry to get to the airport and too lazy to look it up definitively.

I think they are both still active in their Foundation and the Global Health Fund which if I remember correctly is their anti-malarial project.  This kind of thing is more a legacy than sending people to Mars so they can die of liver or kidney failure

Sitting in departures I wonder if Malaria, sorry, Melamine, oops, I mean Melania Trump is planning to outlast the Teflon Don 2.0. I thought there were rumours of a divorce during Trump 1.0.  She's made billions with her recent meme coin.  That's insane. People must be bonkers. With kind of money available, she doesn't have to stay.

Malaria, love her nickname, probably wants to secure her sons future in politics so she hangs on to Donny.

What he is over 22 years her senior?

Reminds me of Bill Wyman and his teenage bride Mandy. Started dating her when she was 13!!!

He did do some good films before we knew about  some things shouted in the media. I am not sure how much is true about Woody and how much is Mia Farrow's marriage failure disdain for him. Problem with him is his films are all very similar.

Kevin Spacey is another one but despite the dirty laundry he was a really good actor.  He did seem a bit aggressive in my mind. Edgy guy you wouldn't want to be in a dark room with.

Rock Hudson got it in the neck being gay also but he was a total professional apparently. No-one would have given him a 2nd look these days.

There's a litany of them - Bill Cosby, Jimmy Savile and so on.

I hadn't thought about Barron as part of a dynasty of Trumpian troglodytes. Never thought of him at all actually. Maybe they'll be like the dead Kennedys. I wouldn't even call them unlucky, more self-destructive. Kind of interesting Kennedy senior was a fascist sympathiser and all his kids and his grandkids seem to be cursed.

Makes you wonder about what kind of upbringing generates such people.  I keep thinking about the novel and film Boys from Brazil where the Nazis attempt to clone Hitler by bringing up the clones in similar conditions- overbearing father Donny and weak mother Malaria etc. Is Barron destined for the same? Who knows?!

I had a nice Jewish boy as a platonic BF when I was 17.

He for sure was gay but still had not come to teams with it.

He was the only son of a nice older Jewish couple in the old area of Beverly Hills, loved their home, built in the 1920s with French doors and all.

He went to school with my older firend, seems everyone in that area knew each other one way or the other.

I met him with 3 of my friends on a school trip at an art museum. He started up a conversation with me because I was wearing a ,cool outfit.

*Had on my brown 1940s womens suit jacket with a fresh picked flower in my lapel.

Long story but we spent a few hours chatting and never thought we would meet again;

Fast forward a good year to when I was living on , Normal Ave, real name of the st; We walked into each other on the st;

His hobby was like mine at the time, just mindlessly taking long walks around Hollywood into the Beverly Hills part of town for hours on end. We even had roller skating dates later on since although he had a car he suffered from epilepsy. He rarely drove.

When I say platonic; I mean we barely kissed and just held hands;

He would sew outfits for me, buy me things from antique shops to wear and generally was just a good buddy.

All came to a sudden end when we drove to my hometown and I introduced him to my friend Holly;

She shared a BD with me and was a rather odd girl , sort of odd like he was, bookworm types.

Well he told me he had to break up with me because he saw himself as a Woody Allen type and Holly looked more like Mia Farrow then I did!

Nutty; They did not last long together.

Last I heard he sadly had a fit on stage when he was performing with his ballet troupe in the Netherlands. He told me himself, forgot how was met up that one time after how he acted with breaking up on a whim with me.

His family was very sweet though, his older sister had polio and was in a wheelchair and he was again a closet case. Felt bad for his parents.

Everytime I see Woody Allen I get mad!

Malaria, love her nickname, probably wants to secure her sons future in politics so she hangs on to Donny.What he is over 22 years her senior?Reminds me of Bill Wyman and his teenage bride Mandy. Started dating her when she was 13!!!Old perv Bill! He seems so shy and quiet, have to watch out for the quiet ones they say!The Ca; fires are getting close to my old hometown of Simi; In the mean time they are having snowball fights in Florida! - @Marilyn Tassy
Who knows?!

I'm in the UK at the moment and it's global warming here. Very high winds expected as Storm Eowyn approaches land. 90mph gusts! Wow! But not forest fires. Just freeing cold rain. Like Alaska or Greenland! - @fluffy2560

Yes, I think we are stuck with generations of Trumps in US politics.

A generational curse that is on us that is!

You never really know, the true villian may be Malaria, she could be pulling the strings?
