IceCoachClair

Hi all, My name is Clair and I just arrived in Cambodia 10 days ago to be the new head coach and National coach of figure skating at the Ice Park in Aeon mall. I've got 2 daughters with me and as much as I am completely at home in the ice rink and extremely well traveled I feel rather lost with anything and everything outside of work. Glad to see this page and really hope to make some friends and connections. Best, Clair

Hi IceCoachClair,

Welcome and best of luck to you and your students.  Next to downhill skiing, ice skating is my favourite past time in Cambodia.

HI, I am Richard, staying here last March 2016 onwards. Doing good. Working in IT industry. I have some progressive ideas for business in Cambodia. Interesting in pool table, travel around the world.

I'm 30, British and new to Phnom Penh! I shall be living here for the foreseeable future. Looking to meet like-minded people to explore the place and have a great time!

I like my music (used to be in a band in London in my early 20s - still pick up the guitar to write a tune every now and then) I love a good book; slowly working my way through the greats. Having grown up in Norfolk, I enjoy getting my walking boots on and my headphones in and walking along the coast listening to all-sorts!  I love a good drink with friends (although not a fan of hangovers so much these days...) It'd be great to make some new friends and make the most of this place!

Get in touch :)

Best,

Ted

Hawk the Slayer

Hi everyone! I registered  on this forum yesterday, wanting to share some ideas and experience.
Though I haven't moved to Cambodia yet, I plan to do so in near future, and before doing it I'd like to get some information around and make a good plan and set up.
I visited Cambodia twice, both were short time visits, but I cannot forget that relax feeling and lifestyle whilst being there.
Looking forward to a good discussion with you guys.
Cheers!
The Hawk

Hello Everyone!

I am in Bangkok, Thailand during my holiday, I'd like to inquire a temp contract volunteer/career opportunity in regards to gain more experience, network and knowledge in broad range of industry as an expat consultant. Would you please recommend or refer me to someone in Bangkok, Thailand prior to 5/6/17, Phnom Penh, Cambodia 5/7/17-5/13/17 and Vietnam 5/14/17 - 6/22/17.

As a child, I've been an ambassador in social welfare and economics affairs within my neighborhood, community, country (U.S.A.) and international, currently, in-between my career, I've had 8 years of volunteer experience positions in leadership, management, education and speaker in classroom, campaign, media and fundraiser events to spread awareness about poverty, women and children empowerment, health/athletic special needs, home improvement, regional food bank and both social mood/financial welfare. I'd like to have more exposure, globally, most of my training is based in United States, West Los Angeles (American Red Cross HQ). Currently, I am a manager in-training for Mass Care Shelter Operation Management; Certified Adult/Pediatric CPR/AED; Certified Adult/Pediatric Psychology, Community Speaker/Instructor in Natural Disaster & Safety Preparation, Lean In Org circle founder (Sheryl Sandberg, FaceBook CEO), LA FEMMES GROUPE ET UBUNTU since 2015, i.e.

Glad you asked about doing nothing, not as easy as it sounds ( that's a joke) yes I get up about 5 am , check my email, get a cup of coffee and watch the depressing CNN, seeing what horrible thing either our president has said or done( I'm from USA) or some other disaster, then I run 5 k a day everyday even though I'm 60 and not so fast, come home get a shower, go to my favorite street food vendor, I know many people there mostly moto and tuk tuk drivers, the nicest people as far as I'm concerned, we talk at least a hour with me helping them with their English and they helping me with my poor Khmer, I go over to a nice ac coffee shop , talk to my children and grandchildren online, usually walk another 3-4 k to lucky near central market, get a cold drink at the food court, walk to the riverside , always people I know to talk with, then off to the old market, I have a favorite vegetable vendor there, she always has a chair for me to sit and watch the people go by, I always hit the donut vender on street 118 near riverside, my worst habit, I stop and have one beer at my favorite place on 172, I live in a condo on 240 so I walk by the royal palace, by that time it's time to cook dinner, I eat sit on my deck , I'm usually in bed by 8 watching  Netflix, on the weekends I go to aeon and a movie, or boxing, every other weekend I go to the coast , so yes it's very easy to do nothing , and I'm very happy doing it , I have time to read three to four newspapers in the evening, life is good!!!! And happily living alone

sobensensokGH

Feel free to ask us anything you might need, either it is for job visas or whatever field you need, after some hardwork i managed to regroup quite a few expats here, we all currently live here together and would be more then willing to help you settling down ! Take care monique and oli,

Michael

MoniOli

Hi Michael!

Well, Oli is actually part of my last name, Olivier - yes, I know, my names are super French. Long story short, my ancestors hail from France originally but fled to The Netherlands and finally settled in the "newly discovered" South Africa some hundred or so years ago. Through some weird fluke, my siblings and I also have French first names. South Africa is such a cultural melting pot though, it's insane.
Anyway.

I've talked with my partner Tim and yes, we would still like to meet up. (I was going to say "and pick your brain" but that sounds gross and very zombie-esque. So, right, asking you about stuff!!)

Currently we're staying near the centre, so meeting for a coffee would preferably have to be near here (we don't have transportation sorted out yet) so when you're in the area again we could make a plan.

Moni & Tim

sobensensokGH

Oh yes, your names are very french like ! Im actually fluent in french ^^ and Sure Moni ! Coffee is defintely perfect, where exactly in the centre area wise are you at, when are you free ? I will probably swing by with a friend also ^^ a web designer that lives here, from Hawaii hes super chill , and well will be more then a pleasure to awnser any questions and come of help !

richardsamsonnevil.j

oh really great John, Here this is most wanted business but bit competition too. What kind of cuisines do you focus?

Anyhow do your best.

sobensensokGH

Theres a new aeon mall opening, its going to be the biggest mall and newest one in Phnomh penh, my building is right in fron of it, i personally am planning to rent a local there and start a bistro/bar franchise style. You have to be actually here to see how cambodian spend their money in these places, and get a place of how a new mall will attract all the population there. Right in front of it, thailand big shot just released their blueprints, biggest street market is currently being built. This neighberhood is called Phnomh penh thmey wich means the new phnomh penh, if you have a chance come see for yourself, how this new part of town gets all of the attraction, from my perception, people tend to go river side and focus all their investment there ( not saying its a bad idea ) but land and such are incedibly high there, building are old more then 20 years, everything in phnomh penh thmey is new, even the engineers and architecs are from the new generation. This place is so promising its a great place to start planning for a business now.
