Hi everyone,

I have been offered a job in Sliema with Igaming but don't know anything about the company or how they work.

Anyone working for them could advise me?

Also wondering if you can live ok with a 19k per year wage, what would be the avarage monthly income after all deductions?

I currently live in the UK and earn the same wages pretty much but I think living in Malta would be much nicer than Belfast.

maura

are'nt you so lucky to have a job to go to, my husband comes from the channel isles, and for over a year cannot get a job, there are plenty of people who are here with no job to go to, so what's your problem?

hammersfan

Hi Nelson and welcome to the group!

It's tough to advise you as so much depends on personal circumstances, but €19k is above the average Maltese salary...but how far it will go for you is really dependent upon your lifestyle/expectations etc.

There are PLENTY of posts on this board talking about such things - try reading them and if you have some specific further questions feel free to ask and hopefully someone can help.

congratulations, you win the prize for the bitchiest post of the week

georgeingozo

Hi Nelson - cost of living is likely to be lower than in Belfast, if only because no council tax.

I agree 100% on the bitchiest post of the week.   was that really necessary?

It's great you landed a job before you got in country !!! congrats!

Hi Nelson,

Welcome to the forum . Congratulations for your job offer ! You will be earning about twice the average income in Malta.

You should be able to survive !

When you are here get in contact . We'll take you out for a beer or two .! Ok Tim ?

Good job Nelson! Ignore the negative comments! I experienced similiar when I posted my first topic and mentioned that my partner has secured employment from the UK. Well Malta will be sunnier than Belfast for sure!

hammersfan

Oh, OK then

I've worked for a few igaming companies and I work in close contact now with about 30, although not all of them in Malta. If you want to PM me the name of the company I will be happy to tell you anything I may know!

19k is a good wage, and above average even for igaming support- its generally between 16 and 19 depending on experience.

As previous replies said, it will obviously depend on your lifestyle and expectations but you should be able to live comfortably on that wage, rent is very reasonable!

me3512

I just wanted to say I like the beer idea!!!

maura

chad i would appreciate your private email as i have already told you my husband and i did come over here to run a business and we had to walk out because of it + the fact i had customers coming to me letting me know that i would have heavy politics done to me and they went against my wishes, it still got done to me there is no secret to what has been done and with all interference being done.
Would you like it if it got done to your wife?
anyways you are not half irish as i am irish french and to us irish it is what is your problem as youve got a job and think about all those who do not have got anything just like how much of the world is going without food around the world,
what is so bitchy about that?
i am sure my new friend will agree, and keep your knickers on

georgeingozo

maura - using your logic, you are better off than most in the world, so whats your problem ?

Nelson_2011

I appreciate all the comments, my concerns are only based on the fact that I don't know the country or anyone that worked for this company before, so yes I have to ask for opinions.

If I do accept the job offer we will surely go for a drink within the next 2 weeks, unfortunately the girlfriend refused to move out of the country, so right now it's a love stay, or work away progression.. Very hard decision to make.

This forum is great!!! Peeps are so willing to help, something we don't see to often now a days.

me3512

that's why we are all here... :)  if your headed this way let us know, many of us are always up for a pint or 3.  :)

As for the girlfriend thing... can't help you there, your on your own.

If the job you got is the one as a support manager for an igaming company.... I wanted that one damn it :)  so Ill buy you the first pint if that's it, just as a congrats.

by the way, youll have to learn to like Cisk, or overpay for a guiness.

Chad

I ammore of a wiskey drinker, but won't give a paint a miss ;)

My job is for trilingual customer service, translations etc.. so you still in for the job, hope you get it.

I am a IT entusiast with several degrees but believe it or not never worked in IT (ofc I build my own super gaming rigs) :)

Well monday is the D day, so I will keep yous posted with the decision :)

Have a great Sunday.

me3512

trilingual???   as in 3...   uhhh I speak 2...  english and texan....

just for the record I am more of a whiskey guy to so please come down, it would be nice to sit with someone who knows what Jhonny Blue is.

and if you know what it is and havent tried it, I'll have you over for a glass.

:)

Myrkur

Nelson you should go for an IT job in gaming, would earn €100,000+ in Malta. well. with experience tho. so would need some first :)

hammersfan

"IT job in gaming, would earn €100,000+" - imo that's an over-estimate...and I'm in IT in a similar sector to igaming ;-)...there may be a few jobs in that level but not many...and it would have to be very specialised/senior.

The report in the times about salary said there are only 1,190 people in Malta who earn over €75k a year (for 2009 anyway)...so I doubt IT in igaming is that well compensated, but I may be wrong as I certainly don't know what everyone is paid!

English and Texan is good :)

I'm original from Portugal, raised in Switzerland, and been in Ireland/UK for the past 10, so all that together got me 3 fluent languages, Portuguese/English/Spanish. Also understand Italian and French perfectly just can't speak it well.

I surely know what Jhony blue is and appreciate it well, but for me Cardhu is the real deal, have a try when you have a chance.

I've decided to try and delay this position, unfortunately there is to many things I have to deal with before I can move.

I will move to Malta, just not yet :)

If I could get a job with those sort of wages i would even cut my lil finger to get it ;)

maura

Maybe I should apply for a job in Igaming? I speak English,Spanish and Swedish, I also understand Portugeuese, Italian and some French...

me3512

There are a lot of Multilingual support positions available  right now all over the island.. If you need a gig then that's a good place to start.

iamharibo

@ maura- we all know by now the problems that you have had and sympathise etc etc but but just because other people are getting jobs and doing ok its not their fault it's not going so well for you.

This forum and this post in particular is for help and advice- this chap was merely asking for both, not a snide comment on how not everyone is so lucky. I am sure you're not trying to upset anyone but it's not helpful- why should he feel bad because he got offered a job and wants information on Malta?

If you need help or advise yourself then feel free to ask, I'm sure everyone would be more than willing to try and help but don't try and put others down all the time.

yeah it could be just that one I know of. *everyone* gets paid *really really* well there. It's quite ridiculous actually and I am pretty jealous!
But i really do NOT believe that statistic about 1190 people getting that wage. You know what they say about statistics, lies lies and more lies :)

maura

it would be helpful if you would keep comments to yourself as well as you seem to be quite bitchy making a comment about it, i have had to endure 2 physical assaults + verbal assaults for running a business and having a guest passing away because of a maltese landlord who hates foreignors. I did'nt get given the correct information about the place, Although my husbands late mother was a physic and if she was alive she would have posted us elsewhere and where we would be much loved and better taken care of as we have been elsewhere

Julien

PEACE, please

maura

We are leaving in the end of March, I guess season starts easter time? When is the season finished? What sort of jobs except for Igaming jobs is there all year round?

I completely understand your frustrations Maura as I have dealt with many road blocks while living here too..but have you turned on the news lately??? Everywhere is Bad!! Elsewhere..where you would be much loved and taken care of??? Where??? I dunno...when I see what's going on in the world...I can't complain about Malta anymore!!! You either need to learn how to deal with the people and the problems that come along...or you leave. And I mean that as no disrespect towards you..it's just how it is.

I thought mgrima's post was exceptionally concillatory, and yet you respond like that - why are you bothering to post ? What do you want from us ?

scubaboy

Wow.... just registered and was going to post to try and help but ....oh my god.... What is the problem ?????

As for the ORIGINAL post....

Euro 19,000 is great wage for support/Customer Services.

Rent can be from 150 Euro through to 3000 euro per month (Depending where you want to be) Norm about 200ish

Ordinary Resident would pay a varied scale of Tax (But would be less than 15%) and 10% as a tax for something similar to National Insurance (For Medical etc) earnings over euro 31,000 would be better to be a permanent resident which pays 15% tax.

Cost of living is going up but you would easily be able to live on euro 19K imho.

Both my wife and myself were looking at living on a budget of 800-1000 euro a month but i have decided to try for a different type of position in Malta instead.

The country is full of wonderful people (And some not so... but isnt everywhere) and was voted very recently as joint top place to live (With New Zealand) and the Best Climate (Weather) in the World... what more do we want...

AND Cisk is good... (Export even better)

a permanent resident (as defined by the 15% tax rate) cannot work

scubaboy

Sorry George are you saying that if you are a permanent resident (Classed as Permanent Resident as opposed to Ordinary Resident) then you have no entitlement to work in Malta???

georgeingozo

correct

scubaboy

Thanks for that George... and i stand corrected...

I was under the assumtion that the tax was a flat 15% and you could work in Malta.

I therefore presume that the only tax rate in Malta is based on the ordinary Resident which is a sliding scale upto 35% but with a tax relief involved in it???

Maybe a seperate post could be started showing the rates etc for earnings in Malta

Julian

georgeingozo

correct although there are social sec contributions as well

hammersfan

There are some other threads with links to the Govt. web site that has the rates and also an example worked through for @iamharibo
