Hello people,
I have been looking online at various apartment options for my impending arrival. Can anybody explain the reason why rent cannot be paid monthly. If you give the landlord a years rent upfront and something goes wrong you dont have anything to bargain with.
Also why not put pictures of the property they are renting ?
Anyway just asking ??

somebody must have an opinion ???

Hey, all landlords require rent to be paid annually, upfront, it is the Saudi way and if you try to make sense of it, you will get stuck! What people do is get someone to buy them out of their rent if they have to leave prematurely, it usually works.  However, it has on occasion worked out badly and yes you could stand to lose the remainder of your rent.  If you need to move on quickly, you either got a better offer so cut your losses and run, you were sacked in which case you have little to work with or (god forbid) personal matters demand for you to be back home.  If you are on a compound you want have any trouble re-letting, accommodation on compounds is like gold dust! Hope this helps?

Also, no pictures and you will find limited information for security reasons but also the culture here is to protect ones privacy.  Photo's of things like people, homes etc are not always welcome here.

Hi,
I know how its painful with renting and hunting for rent in saudi...
Not civilised at all, they think its ok and its works for them.
Do not ask questions no one will answer to you.
Sorry, I experienced same problems in Riyadh.
Good luck, take care

Hi Ellia, how long have you been in Riyadh now?  Trust you managed to settle yourself in OK now?  Good to see you on the blog.

Well thats Saudi arabia to you.. Not everything that they do here makes sense to most ppl outside. but then thats how things are.

And big advice. dont go and book a place before you get here. Come see and then decide.. because what you see is what you get.. not what you read!!
