Hello,

Before moving to Egypt, it is important to investigate the cost of living in the country.

As we did in 2015, we give you the opportunity to share your experience and tell us more about products and services average recorded prices in your town/city/area.

Don’t hesitate to let us know if the cost of living in Egypt has decreased or increased in the past few years.

Thanks to your help, would-be expatriates will have the opportunity to refine and better prepare their expatriation project.

> How much does it cost to rent an apartment/house in Egypt?

>What is your monthly grocery budget?

> How much does it cost to see a physician/doctor/specialist in Egypt ?

> What is your children's schooling monthly budget?

> How much does it cost to fill up your car’s fuel tank?

> How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc.?

> How much do you pay for your Internet/phone subscription?

> How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?

> How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?

> How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?

> How much does a gym membership cost in Egypt?

Thank you everyone!

Coming from jordan and with the difference in currency I see Egypt very cheap. However I have witnessed an increase in prices in everything in the past few months. In a summary:
-average rent of an apartment between 6000-10'000 in a compound depending on the size, out of Compound is definitely less.
- doctor fees ( I have seen many recently) between 400-600.
-monthly grossary shopping 4000-6000.
-gym for 16 prenatal classes that I attend 1200.
- fuel: 160 for a Kia Soul car and 200 for a Renault kadjar.
- a cup of espresso 40.
- lunch for 2 outside 400-1000 depending on the place.
- one kilo of sugar is 26, 5 pieces of bread 5 pounds.

> How much does it cost to rent an apartment/house in Egypt? ::
Average rent of an apartment between 6000-10,000£E and up for flats that cater to expats - depending on the size & location, or from 3000 - 5000£E for a clean, decent, furnished 2-3 bedroom flat in the city core then of course there are the villas in the suburbs  for 40,000£E and up (& usually demanded in USD$)

> How much do you pay for your public transport tickets (bus, subway, train, tram)? :: varies from 1£E (metro) -5£E (bus/micro bus for under 10km) however most expats use Uber/Careem/Ousta/London Cabs or private car & driver (6000-10,000£E/month) since public transit is very crowded and difficult to navigate without some Arabic and often way laid by traffic jams

> Staple food: what do people eat and how much do they pay for basic food like bread, rice or pasta? :: loads of flat bread (aish), rice and pasta here for 5-10£E for up to 500g packages (some items like cooking oil, sugar, contraceptives and cooking gas have experienced "supply issues" and the prices have varied wildly depending on location)

>What is your monthly grocery budget? :: varies dramatically according to where you shop and if you purchase imported items or not - 2000£E or less if you watch for good prices and buy mostly local items or 6000£E and up if you shop in the big box stores and buy a lot of foreign imported items

> How much does it cost to see a physician/doctor/specialist in Egypt ? ::  if no insurance 400-600£E per visit not including any treatments or diagnostics

> What is your children's schooling monthly budget? :: up to 6000-10,000£E or more per month for international schools

> How much does it cost to fill up your car’s fuel tank? ::160£E (40L) and up (obviously depending on size of tank)

> How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc.? :: nothing for water, gas is usually under 10£E for cooker only (more if for hot water) and electricity varies depending on usage of air conditioner, electric heaters, water heaters and appliances but basic is around 200£E per month that can be as much as 7000£E with air conditioners & lots of appliances

> How much do you pay for your Internet/phone subscription? :: 700£E for 3-months (TE Data) landline & Basic ADSL internet

> How much do you pay for your lunch on weekdays? :: 5-100£E and up depending on location and if I eat "baladi-style" (local) or at a foreign chain

> How much do you pay for an espresso coffee? 10-20£E and up  depending on the shop

> How much do you pay for a cinema ticket? 40£E for basic and 60£E for VIP

> How much does a gym membership cost in Egypt?  varies from 1000£E and up depending on location

> OTHER: local wine is 75-150£E & beer 8-15£E per bottle from the bottle shop; cigarettes 15-30£E per packet of 20 and an average night out for drinks or night clubbing can cost 1000£E per person and up
