Cost of living in Romania - 2017

Hello,

Before moving to Romania, it is important to investigate the cost of living in the country.

As we did in 2015, we give you the opportunity to share your experience and tell us more about products and services average recorded prices in your town/city/area.

Don't hesitate to let us know if the cost of living in Romania has decreased or increased in the past few years.

Thanks to your help, would-be expatriates will have the opportunity to refine and better prepare their expatriation project.

My apartment, totally central one bedroom in centre of Iasi 250euro/month=1130lei approx.
1-2lei per trip for a tram/bus ride
a loaf of bread is around 3-6lei
fruits and vegetables vary quite a bit depending on season and original plantation location
physiotherapists and osteopaths (are generally low quality) cost around 50-100lei per hour
electricity, gas and water vary quite a bit depending on season, and also because I pay water in the same bill as my building maintenance, which recently dramatically increased, due to a new Tennant upstairs which meant lots more people making lots more elevator trips, equally lots more energy consumption for the whole building.
but generally electricity and gas are around 30-80lei a month for me (I think!)
internet is 28lei a month.
phone is 6euro so about 30lei
I don't have a gym membership but I live on top of a very overpriced gym, connected to a hotel, probably one of the most expensive in Iasi, but surely can find cheaper.

That may be the cost for a room in a shared accommodation, but under no circumstances can someone rent an entire apartment for that price anywhere in this country.

Hi Priscilla

I wrote this article to help people understand the cost of renting in the different areas.  It's current upto 3/2017 after some edits last week, but I welcome any updates people have to share.
