My son and I ,  he is over 18 ,  plan on moving from the United States to Jakarta ,  can someone please tell me what is needed to become a permanent resident there .  Thanks

Fred

Quite a question, and one that requires more detail, especially your reason to stay.

A few more details could be helpful in answering your question.

The reason we're moving is we want to start a new life together away from the United States

Hi Jiminthe714,

Welcome on board. :)

I'd request you to go through the Living in Indonesia guide to find out all you need to know to relocate and live in Indonesia.

Best of luck.

A change of scenery is a pretty good reason to move but can be a little difficult when it comes to long term visas as most are for work, marriage or retirement and anything else is outside my knowledge.
Your best bet is to visit the nearest Indonesian embassy to you or get onto their website.
I know the incumbent Indonesian ambassador in the US - nice chap.

I'd say unless you are retired at the moment nearly impossible... and if retired it will take a few years to do do too...

Fred

Retirement visas are pretty easy as long as you meet the requirements.

Visa do not take long as long as you have all the necessary paperwork and if you follow Freds threads in this forum about immigration and procedures it should be fairly straight forward.
