How did you spend your first months in Beijing? (Foreigners in BJ )

I hope to be in BJ within 14 months and am interested ,as a foreigner, how you managed to complete your first few months in BJ.

How did you sort out where to live? When you first arrived in BJ how did you manage? How did you find meeting new friends and dealing with day-to-day issues like buying food,paying bills etc?

I am interested to hear your experiences.
