Naturalisation and citizenship in Taiwan

Bhavna

Hello everyone,

What are the requirements for acquiring citizenship in Taiwan? For example, length of residence, language requirements, employment etc..

What formalities are involved in the process?

What is the policy on dual-citizenship in Taiwan? Do you have to give up your former nationality?

What are the advantages and benefits of acquiring Chinese citizenship, in your opinion?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

i've been living in Taiwan for 6 years and am familiar with Taiwan's naturalization laws, and I can tell you that no foreigner can obtain Taiwanese citizenship unless they marry a citizen of Taiwan. Otherwise, there's no path to citizenship for foreigners in Taiwan.  The best one can hope for is a permanent residency, and that requires one to have lived in Taiwan for 5 consecutive years.
