There are plenty to do, see, enjoy, and experience in Muscat. But with the scant details you have provided there isn't much one can suggest.

However, there are some general stuff which a family could enjoy. Muscat being a coastal city has some lovely beaches which you could explore, the peak summer heat notwithstanding.

Take a shopping trip to the Muttrah Souq, which is in the Muttrah Corniche. You can easily spend a day just looking around the numerous tiny shops located inside its many lanes, bylanes, alleys and cul de sacs. If you are a newbie to the country and city and even the region, this would make for a very interesting outing. Bargain hard, if you are planning to buy anything here.

Do a general tour of the many malls, hypermarkets and the shopping districts. You will get a good hang of what to expect and where.

If you like driving, then you can explore the periphery of Muscat city. With excellent roads and highly affordable petrol, you can experience the natural beauty of the land, without having to go very far. In and around Muscat there are many day-trip picnic spots which would make for some interesting introduction to the city.
