Hi,

We have recently moved to KL due to a job transfer from the Middle East.

We live at Mutiara Damansara. We are looking for International schools (prefer Cambridge syllabus). Some of our criteria:
* Need school transport within 30min travel (not considering traffic)
* Price range - looking at max of RM 25000 per year (if the school is really good and nearby, can stretch by 3-4K but would prefer to be conservative for the time being)
* Good academics and Co-curricular activities
* Would prefer if French is an option as second language as our son was studying this in his previous school

--> A few schools which we are considering visiting are: Tenby (Setia Eco Park), APIS, Beaconhouse, REAL (Shah Alam), MIGS, TIME.

We would love honest feedback with data points from parents, teachers, students, administrators and others directly involved / having experience with the schools mentioned.

If you have other schools within our criteria, please include and let us know the feedback on why you suggest the school(s).

Thank you and appreciate any help in advance.

Hi!
Very happy to help give you some information on some of your choices - but first, how old is your son, if you don't mind me asking? And what curriculum is he studying in his current school? (Ie British, American, IB)

Hi KiwinKL,

Thank you for your response. Our son is 8 years old, born in Jan 2009. He is in the Cambridge curriculum. Please feel free to ask if you need any other specific information.

We also added Nobel International school to the list. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also the price range we mentioned is for the tuition fee only (sum of recurring term fee), not including the one off payments and non-tuition payments.

Traffic in KL is horrendous and, ideally, choosing a school reasonably close to you will make an enormous difference to your son (and you!) as it would hugely reduce his travel times each day. Many students in KL travel 1hr+ each way to and from school each day, which is pretty rough - especially if your son is only 8.

You will see that some of the schools you've mentioned are very far away from your home, so I really wouldn't recommend considering these in the first instance. I've marked these ones in red.

There are a number of excellent, well-established schools much closer to you, but these are out of your budget (nearly double, in most cases) unfortunately.

Out of the schools that are possibilities, Taylor's International & HELP International will definitely be the most 'international' (the others, realistically, are more local private schools with the name 'international' in there, and with the Cambridge syllabus being offered (often somewhat patchily).

Hope that helps somewhat...?

Oops, just to add - HELP actually teach the IPC in Primary (International Primary Curriculum) rather than the Cambridge syllabus, though they shift to Cambridge and IGCSEs in Secondary. However, the IPC is an excellent curriculum - more enquiry-driven, and many good international schools use it as a framework.

Thank you KiwinKL for your advice. Highly appreciated.
