Great to see how you come to see good opportunity in doing business in Cambodia. The main idea is where and what you think of doing.... Siem Reap is still not crowded.. Phnom Penh is heavy... while Sihanouk ville is another vacancy spot... There quite many areas of biz you could start.... well, 5k to 10k is not a bad size but need to look at some mini projects... I've seen more shops/resto for rent or business for sales now... So good time to grab if you are in Siem Reap anytime soon... Some ventures are just crowded.. So good and solid study will be needed....

I saw your post from last August 17, and maybe your plans have changed or maybe you have already started some form of business if so I hope it is going well.

I'm us based British and Australian property developer, an ex-diving instructor from Thailand.
I am very interested in a long-term plan to partner lease, or take over or develop a tourist eco-lodge beach boutique hotel, with all the trimmings yoga center, restaurant etc.

I am a big believer in a team approach to business I'm a mature business guy with money and experience but folks like you have skills energy drive etc that sort of combination can work very well if you get the balance and trust and details of a relationship correct.

I wouldn't go into business here.
Get your feet on the ground and have a look at the over supply of bars and restaurants aimed at foreigners. So rule that out.
Then try to figure a way through the bureaucracy here. Set up a company, pay patent tax, get a work permit and then come back and say you still want to do business here.
5-10k is insufficient to start a business unless you are turning a profit from day one, have no lease to pay, no stock to buy, no wages to pay.
Seriously, you will blow through that before you know it.
Anyone that tells you otherwise is dreaming.
Beware anyone who has a sure fire business idea but no money of their own. Beware anyone who doesn't know you or what your proposed  business is and yet want to do business with you. So many scams here that it's untrue.
