Hi,
I am considering an offer in Dusseldorf and need to find English / bilingual schooling for my children (15 & 11).  I have engaged with the international schools but they are incredibly expensive.  Are there public schools that are bilingual or are able to assist them to adjust to German schooling?

Regards,
Linnea

Many public schools (which are free of charge) have preparatory classes for non-German-speaking students. Enquire which schools in your neighbourhood offer such classes!
For very small kids, it is often possible to just enroll them in normal, German classes - they learn fastest by total immersion and are unlikely to suffer from any long-term effects. Bigger kids, who attend the preparatory classes, will lose a school year because of this.
