Online shopping in New Zealand

Hello everyone,

Shopping online can be far more convenient and offer greater choice than going into shops, be it grocery shopping or retail.

Are there options for online shopping in New Zealand? Which sites or apps do you use most frequently and are these local or international?

Are there particular products that are cheaper to buy online or that are perhaps not available in New Zealand?

What is the delivery process like — is it easy to receive deliveries and what are the costs of shipping? Are there any taxes to pay upon receipt?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Online shopping is one of the most convenient way of finding things that may not be available easily in the market. People prefer aliexpress or alibaba for ordering stuff. Generally it takes approximately 2 weeks for the ordered items to be delivered. Ebay and other famous portals are also widely used here.

In general, the prices available online are much cheaper than that of the readily available   in the market (online ordering may be a good option if the requirement of the same item is not really urgent). The delivered items include the price of everything including taxes. So typically its a one go transaction and everything is taken care by the online shippers.

Else than overseas, many in-country stores have the online purchase and delivery options widely available. This includes cloths, toys, household stuff, sports items and even furniture.

I'd say online shopping is not a frequent option, however a definite cheap for those who're not in rush for purchasing things immediately.

Hi All,

Are there options for online shopping in New Zealand? I would say Trade me is the main go to. There are some other sites for specific products such as healthpost.co.nz but all of my other online shopping is from overseas.

Which sites or apps do you use most frequently and are these local or international? I use Amazon.com the most, followed by aliexpress, ebay, alibaba.com, and numerous other sites for one off products such as a store I like in NYC called catbird.

Are there particular products that are cheaper to buy online or that are perhaps not available in New Zealand? Most products are cheaper to buy online overseas than in New Zealand. There is also a ton more variety overseas and better quality products. Some examples are: books, shoes, clothes, electronics, health and beauty products, pet supplies, etc..

What is the delivery process like — is it easy to receive deliveries and what are the costs of shipping? Are there any taxes to pay upon receipt? The delivery process from overseas is better than in NZ. On Amazon for example, it tells you your shipping costs upfront, you can get delivery updates and the tracking is very visible and clear. I rarely have to pay taxes on top of the shipment costs. In NZ the couriers can be unreliable and unapologetic if you complain.
