This gathering aims to bring together newly arrived and more experienced expats and locals living in or around shanghai, who are looking to expand their social circle or simply having a good time with other English speaking people.
Next on the agenda:
hansvc's bday partaaay on Dec 10th. See this tread for details.
Hello Hans
That's a very good idea. I hope you will get responses from other members in Shanghai and that your meet up will be a success.
Keep us posted
Armand
Hello Hans,
Brilliant initiative, as soon as a date & a location is confirmed I will stick the discussion to the top of the forum
Regards
Ok, hmmm, seems like no one is really interested in a real get-together?

If u set up a time and place, maybe it will be easier for us to arrange.BTW,I'm interested.
I was actually just thinking the same!
Let's say 2pm on Saturday, April 2nd. And I propose to meet at the Starbuck's at People's Square right next to the exit 20 of the people's square subway station.
Let's see who's in!

Great,I will catch u guys then.
Hi Hans,
Great! Thanks for taking the effort to putting this get-together. Actually I was trying to put up a small get-together with couples of friends I made here on this coming Saturday too, so far i got 2 frens joining.
what do you say we merge the get-together in 1?
BTW, 2pm on this Saturday might not be a good idea, some of us have to work on Saturday as replacement for holiday. could we shift it to 8pm?
Hey Vincent,
good point...I actually have to work myself I just found out
So let's shift it to 8pm, I think I can also bring 2 other persons, let's hope some more will join.
What about the location? At that time of the day/evening, Starbuck's might not be the most exciting spot. Any suggestions?
Hi Hans,
well, I am not pretty sure...haven't really explore this city.
Let's keep the venue as it is tentatively, while I'll ask around if there is any better venue.
BTW, J_L, you are local here right? Any suggestion?

I am so exited that tomorrow's coming.I was wondering if we can be a little bit early maybe.I guess Starbuck is a good place to start.BTW,another expat member redkind is interested. However,I suppose not many of us can make it this time, after all it's a beginning.Let me know if u guys have any suggestion`
Cheers
count me in! guess this is a good idea!

would love to join this event, but so far i read through this post dont get it what time exactly this event gonna be happen?
Sat 2nd, starbuck at people square? what time?
how do i recognize you guys?
Haha, yes timing has changed a few times, so to put things clear:
Saturday April 2nd
8 PM
Starbuck's next to subway-exit 20 of People's square.
Starbuck's isn't that huge, so you'll probably recognize us anyway (just look for a group of people of different descent talking in English).
PS: Sawilz, I'll pm you my phone nr, just in case
See you there!
I'll be there tomorrow at 8pm, but I have to leave early too. But at least to meet you guys, we can hang out sometime again. see you guys!
Just registered to this website 10 minutes ago, my timing seems perfect.
I think I will meet you all tomorrow then!
cheers
I guess u had a great time there.LOL.
Let's expect the next one.
First get-together was nice, I had a great time and it was great meeting all of you who attended.
We are thinking of making it into a bi-weekly event, more details will follow soon.
For everyone who turned up at Starbuck last night, thank you so much for your company.
It was a fantastic evening having interesting people from different countries and cultures gather together and share views, experience and life in Shanghai. Looking at the different nationalities that were present, it gives us an idea of how diversity we have reached, and hopefully we will have more good people joining us in the coming get-togethers.
Ive certainly enjoyed the evening and thanks a lot Hans for making this happened.
It is great to have this get-together be on a regular bi-weekly basis, and I think we could change the venue from time to time to explore different cafe/pub in the city.
So I guess the next get-together will be on 16-Apr-2011, 8pm at Captain Hostel along Fuzhou Road?
Cheers:D
^ Hey Vincent, Hows it going?
I see that you're busy with gathering in Shanghai. Good job! And it's becoming a bi-weekly event like what we're having in Suzhou? Ha!

I'm new in Shanghai too, hope to meet more people!
Count me in for 4.16th meeting!

Hey Francis,
Good to see your post here. I am doing good here.
Yup, we are making it on bi-weekly basis, and I'd really hope it will grow as big and multinational as the Suzhou get-together that we have, if not better. Let's see how it goes..
Anyway, let me know if you drop by Shanghai...we could meet up

Hey Joystick,
welcome to Shanghai and the group.
Yeah, will be there as well on 16 of april!

Welcome on Expat.com
Armand
Hey Armand,
Called me Nicole. Since Nicole is too common and being registered.. I just try to think of the name that nicole likes to eat vico (NICVICO)
Nice to meet you!
I've set eyes on this blog for a while & can't believe i missed the first get-together
My name is Chen, local, i was called Cheny by my Euro friends. Just came back from England (only one year stay though, I loved the place)
Desperate for some pub mates, cafe mates, dining mates
16-Apr, count me in, can't wait to see you guys
cheers!
Hey Cheny,
welcome on the board and great to have locals joining too. Looking forward to meeting you on Apr 16th.
Hans
Hi Cheny!
Hope to see you there
Cheers mates
I'm sure we are going to have great time!
Last weekend I had a great time again, and met a lot of new people!
Next get-together will normally take place on April 30th. Anyone know a good spot for the next gettogether? Preferably centrally located..
Hello all! Wow, good to see there's a post here that's so active...registered a while back but was disappointed as it seemed a little 'dead' here initially.
Would love to join in the next meetup - any plans thus far?
It was really a good gathering! I guess all of us enjoyed our time there..
I guess I have to be careful not to go gathering immediately after sport with my backpack and so on..
Looking forward for the next gathering
may i ask how big the group will be? me included of course!
Hey Lea, I would say around 10 people
Oh I missed the second one! I hope to see you again guys before I leave for the Philippines. If not, I will see you again in June!
hey guys, was fun hanging out together at captain's hostel and the after party afterwards! looking forward to the next meet-up!
Jun
hi guys, definitely a good night we spent together, though I missed the after party. (but might be a good escape for me from more "rocket fuel")
This group is growing and I can't wait to see more and more good people join in.
Also, for the venue, Captain's bar is cool, but we are thinking to explore other cool places which:
a)located in town and close to subway station, easily accessible
b)not too expensive, we surely don't want to scare people off thinking that this is some kind of viva lavida elite get-together.
c)not too noisy, so that we don't have to shout at each other.
Feel free to suggest, we could rotate the venue and check out new places.
Cheers
