I can't see PHP exchange rate here.
Buy USD before you come to Vietnam. It's easy to exchange USD anywhere in Vietnam.

hi,

yea i can't see any PHP in other bank's website but i found one https://www.sacombank.com.vn/en/company … -rate.aspx

do they have branch in hanoi as well since i'll be travelling to hanoi?

i might purchase the flight that will be arrived in hanoi before 1AM. is there any money changer open around that time? i'll try to exchange some Dong here in Manila, just in case i need it for taxi

Sacombank has branches in Hanoi but all branches may not exchange PHP.
Other expats from the Philippines can advise you on that.

Money exchange counter at Noi Bai is supposed to be open and working 24 hrs.
The rate of exchange offered there is poor compared to rates elsewhere in Hanoi.
Not sure if they exchange PHP at the airport.

i see. so exhange PHP to USD here is the best option then.

thank you! :)

Why not just use your ATM card? Do you have a checking account at a big Philippines bank? Then your ATM card should work. [You can test it: in Manila, try your ATM card at a foreign bank like HCBC or Citibank.]

You will pay an ATM fee, but probably you will get a good exchange rate.

Otherwise, you will convert all your money from pesos to dollars, paying a fee for that. Then carry all that cash to Vietnam. Then have to find gold shops to change it. Then in Manila convert back the unused dollars and VND to pesos and pay a fee.

With ATMs, you only withdraw and pay a fee on the money you use.
Good idea to get 1.000.000 VND before you come though, just in case.
Also you can use a credit card in malls and nicer restaurants.

the thing is.. some banks in the Philippines are not good. some of my friends used the atm abroad and they reported to the bank so they can open the access abroad, but after 2 weeks of report and they were in other country, they were not able to use their atm, it was still blocked. so they asked other friends here to send them money via wire transfer.

the bank system in the philippines is outdated, even the bank system in my country, Indonesia is way way better. :(

You have to inform to your bank before you traveling somewhere in out of the country and let then know where is your destination and bank will open your ATM, and you can withdraw the money without any blocking. I got this information from my bank; I also faced the same problem with my Vietnamese ATM card.

There is another option why don't you try to find Filipino in Hanoi and you can exchange PHP to VND.
