If you really like hiking, you need to find time to head up North.  Just yesterday we hiked to the top of our nearby mountain and took these photos.

I really liked Kanchanaburi when I was there with a friend, especially Erawan National Park. Also Chiang Mai area is of course great for hicking and trecking. We really enjoyed Doi Inthanon National Park there, it has the highest mountain in Thailand. Seemed like a great place for that sort of thing, however I recommend you to take short tours to some places first to see if it will work for you, rather than booking a week of accomodation. We went to Doi Inthanon National Park for a tour we booked with TheAsia.com and liked it so much we came back later a few times

Another vote for Kanchanaburi! Such a wonderful experience. Would definitely want to plan for another hiking trip there. Pai is also memorable for me. Gorgeous views! A 3-hour travel from Chiang Mai though.
