Hi all,
Newbie on the Australia forum? Dont know how to start?
This thread is for you
We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country, or to tell us more on your expat projects in Australia if you are planning to move there.
It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.
Welcome on board!
All the best, Where are you considering to moving to? Which city? What is your profession?
Thank you Julien! Migrated to Sydney from Middle East seven months back. Still exploring the city, a IT Cyber Security specialist, haven't been able to find a job. Proactively searching and hoping to get something soon!
Hello! I was looking for a website/forum to help explore the possibility of moving to Australia with the family from the United States. My timeline is probably about 3-4 years from now. I am a pediatric anesthesiologist. My perfect job would be at one of the children's hospitals in Australia. I don't currently have a specific city, but the website made me choose. I'd prefer to stay out of the huge cities, but the wife loves them. I'm hoping to find a happy medium with all of you folks! I know (a little) about Sydney and Melbourne, but what about Brisbane or Adelaide? Perth, Newcastle and even Townsville are currently on my list, as well. I look forward to hearing from everyone!
Hi everyone I've been living in a suburb of brisbane just under 4 weeks after living in NZ for 11 and a half years. I'm waiting on my husband and 2 adult children joining me in a month or so. I miss my own people and would love to meet fellow Scots or Irish mates. I do enjoy meeting English and welsh too but particuliarly my fellow Scots. Please get in touch. I'm living in Springfield 😊
Hi everyone my name is Louise and I am from Scotland. My husband and children and I lived in New Zealand for 11 years and we have recently moved to a suburb of Brisbane. I love tennis, walking, swimming, socialising. I really miss people from Scotland to be honest and would love to meet anyone from anywhere in the UK. I find we have the same sense of humour in general and have a common understanding. I am currently living with my son and daughter in law and 2 wee granddaughters until the house is sold in NZ and my family join me. I would love to make some new friends in this beautiful country to help me feel even more settled. I am currently working as a Social Worker in Toowoomba and Ipswich and LOVE the job! Look forward to hearing from you. Louise
Nothing much to say just hoping to meet real friends, honest and love a laugh
Good afternoon everyone.
My name is Joanita. Married with 2kids.
It has always been a dream to immigrate to Australia. But seems if your qualifications is not on the same level as theirs you dont stand a chance.
Also if it is not on the list either.
I lie awake and wondering what to do. Try and be dissapointed or just forget about it totaly.
I am a pre primary school teacher but dont work all the time. And i only have a N3 in Educare. National senior certificate. Its not a degree or post graduate in education.
My husband is a Security instalation and service Technician He has 14 years experience and has a Psira certificate. He does alarms, cctv. Electric fencing ect. But his age is starting to count against us. He is 43 now. I cant find his trade on the aus list.
Mine is there on the list but i dont have all that they want. Not that i would mind to study further in Aus.
We are updating our cvs and sending it through to a consultant he said he will do a comprehensive assessment to see if we even stand a chance and if it is worthwile to even apply before we start paying alot of money.
How do you even get sponsorship from a Australian employer if you are not already in Aus. Someone who is willing to sponsor you and take a chance.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Any help I will appreciate it.
Thank you.
Joanita.
Just give it a go and apply. Australia are looking for teachers. You may if need be enrolled or update your certificate. As for your husband, to me he's willing to work. I don't see a problem with you not getting in the country. But it's only me. Look up all the information it's online then make up your mind.
Thanks. I am willing to work too. Even volunteering in anything. Just sometimes the circumstances with kids. They Need to be picked up from school, extra mural activities, homework ect. We dont have family members or friends close by.
Is it worthwhile to use an agent?
He told me that they dont realy have like alarms ect in Australia.
Which visa will be the correct one to apply for?
Thanks
Thanks Julien.
Will be good. But so confusing.. Lol. Where to start......
Lol I know

Hi All,
I am Allan from Philippines and planning to migrate in Australia specially in Melbourne. I am currently working as an offshore employee under the Marketing Department of MiniMovers, a local moving company in Australia. I am establishing myself at work so that I could request to work at their office in Melbourne. Hopefully it will happen.
Hey there guys and gals. My name is Michael and my wife and I live in South Africa. I don't know if you guys know whats been going on here in SA but things are looking grim, very grim. My wife and I desperately want to immigrate to Australia, but at the rate things are going we are willing to go almost anywhere at this stage as we are startig to fear for our lives. The only problem is we do not have degrees and as such, no agent want to even look at our situation twice. My wife is starting her degree now in efforts to help us get out of SA, but that will take 3 years and who knows where this country will be by then. Its just so disheartening because we live our lives right, we work very very hard but we are not given the chance to start over in another country. We hate hand outs and will rather sweep the streets than live off wellfare. We just need a chance......

I would like to get a favourable working atmosphere with a good job and a good salary in Sydney Australia. I really want to change my life. Life is not easy at all here in Uganda. The costs of living are higher than the actual salaries which are charged with high government taxes. I would like to get a new atmosphere in Sydney. Please help me out! Thanks alott ladies and gentlemen
Hi and welcome to the forum Nankwasa
It is not easy to find a job in Australia unless you have a skill that the govt is seeking.
You should check out this site for information www.immi.gov.au or contact the nearest Australian Embassy to you.
Visa applications take a long time to process because of the many applications. You have to have qualifications and experience in your field of expertise which will be checked for authenticity.
You may be able to get a working holiday visa which allows you to work in certain industries for a year.
Cost of living is not cheap here either. this site will give you information www.numbeo.com
Well what about in Florists farms, Or other farmlands

Hi All,
I'm Chamil and I've been in Australia for 10 years. I am originally from Sri Lanka. After around 5 years on a bridging visa I am finally a permanent resident.
I currently work as a Financial Planner and have noticed how expensive retiring in Australia is becoming.
I have a property in Sri Lanka which is listed on sites like Airbnb and is managed by my parents. I am wondering if there is a demand for Australians looking to live/retire overseas.
If so, what are the most important factors/concerns?
I have already identified issues such as access to social security benefits, healthcare, visas etc.
Any insight or experiences you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Please also let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.
Cheers
Chamil
Thank you for your welcome. I am not from PNG, but I spent some very happy childhood years in the highlands and in Port Moresby. I am really just want ing to identify a song that I have been singing since I was seven! It is in Papuan, I think. Is there anyone out there who remembers national songs from the 70s?
Hi all! I'm married with 2 kids. Was in Australia for 2 years before I heard about expat.com. Currently back in KL for a vacation. Will be back in Melbourne again in September. Cheers!
Hi Julien and all member/newbies

There is no easy way to move. you need to apply to come over.
How long before you finish your studies and when do you intend coming over. Are you looking to work in Australia.
To get work in your field of expertise you need work experience before you can apply. Any degrees or qualifications you have will need to be verified by immigration when you apply. As an Electrical Engineer you would have to sit additional exams in Australia before you could work.
This site www.immi.gov.au will give you the information.
