Hi,  British expat working in Shuwaikh and living in Bneid Al Qar.
Getting to know the city as approaching 3 months here.
Investigating getting a good deal at a Beach Club before my waistline expands any more than it already has.

katieannjones123

My name is katie, from liverpool England. I am considering moving to Kuwait at some point this year.
Wondering whether current expats could give me some advice etc.
I would be moving alone, for a 6-12 month period.
Is it safe? Is it friendly? Is transport easy to use etc?

Thanks in advance x

katieannjones123

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
So where are you from then?
Is it a good idea to move to Kuwait alone? Is t safe for a lone woman?
I would be coming over to work as a Diabetes specialist nurse in a hospital.
Is it strict in Kuwait? Is it dangerous? Do I have to abide by any rules/regulations etc?
I need as much information as possible before I make my decision.
Thanks again 😊😊
Katie

I just moved here about a month ago to work in a bank but also to join my dad.
From my small experience here is what I’ve learned and noticed so far:
It is very safe in Kuwait ( I do a daily joh/walk in a nearby mall park late at night and it’s super safe)
There isn’t really much to do except shoppings malls and coffeeshops, so brace urself for some idle time.
Transportation other than having a car ... better be a taxi as buses aren’t appealing and I don’t think they service everywhere
Rent is pretty pricey if you don’t do your reaearch ahead ... but compared to europe and America it is quite correct. ( i recommand you the area of Salmiya or mahboula even though the latter is a little far but u find more westerners there)
Brace yourself for some waiting on your paperwork as it takes at least 3-4 weeks to get your civil ID
You woudn’t be able to drive with ur DL if you have a work visa, you’ll need ur ID, diploma and first salary stab to apply for it
The living is pretty westernized as u can dress as u please and sit in coffeeshops ... but alcohol is forbidden here
A lot of communities live here and they tend to stay grouped ... so you wouldn’t see a lot of mixed groups
I really don’t know what else to add ... but all in all it’s a very nice country to live in
Nb: brace yourself for a reaaaaalllly hot summer ( my dad experienced it last year and he says: you train for hell hahaha)

Hi All

Recently arrived in Kuwait on a visit as my wifes an English Teacher here. We're from Cape Town, South Africa. I'll be here for about 2 months before I return home. Been here for about 2 weeks and already bored to death when she goes to work. looking for some daily activities if anyone can recommend. I enjoy football so also looking for a team to join for some social footy. I live in the fintas area and recently went for my first jog on the beachside so looking to incorporate that as an early morning activity. All the info will be much appreciated.

I was offered a teaching job in Kuwait City at an international school, and I am hoping to find some people who have lived in Kuwait City who can give me some information about what life is like there.  Specifically, the social aspects of life in Kuwait.   So far, my research indicates that there is not a lot for me to do there, besides shop, go to cafes/restaurants, and the occasional cinema.  Personally, I am very interesting in working out (lifting weights, running, gym type memberships), going to concerts, playing sports, and visiting museums/historical sites.  In addition, while the ban on alcohol is not a deal breaker for me, I do enjoy a nice cocktail on the weekends, and it seems that will not be possible in Kuwait.   Furthermore, I would like some information on what the dating scene is like for a middle-aged man in Kuwait.
Any information would be most appreciated!   Thank you!

Jonathan here - approached for 2nd time by AUM, I am lecturer in music studies. Trying to find out about Kuwait, family life, security in job, labor laws etc.

If I give up my job in ZA I will never be able to get into a similar job again, so this is a very big choice if interested. Also seeing a lot of negativity about AUM online, so trying to understand how much is real and how much just disgruntled. All my academic experiences so far have been difficult, and all academics unhappy in jobs, so looking for honest reflections.

Peace!

Hi,
Greetings to every one. I just shifted Kuwait few days ago for new job. I am yet to explore Kuwait, hardly any friend. Also, Would like to invite new friends to join me over coffee and exchange ideas during free time.

Good day to everyone here.

My name is Aisha, I'm a Physical Therapist, and I am from Copenhagen, Denmark. I have lived in the US and Asia, so why not try the Middle East :)

I don't live in Kuwait (yet). I got a job offer to work at a Clinic in Kuwait City. The offer has great benefits. The only thing stopping me from saying yes is the pay is less than what I make now (but no taxes though!) and it's a 6 day work week (Is that normal?!)

Anyways... I'm glad there is a forum like this.

I am a avid runner and cyclist... I don't want to give that up. So any good running routes and cycling routes?? :)

Thanks everybody.

Hey there!!

I have worked in AUM before, back in 2011-2012 ... to be honest there are many good things about the place and like anywhere else, bad things too. I have heard that it has changed into a way much better place tho. I'm thinking of working there again.. But yea, if you need to know more, I'm here :)

Hi Halifaxhome Lad
With a bit of luck, and a good following wind, I should be moving to Kuwait in mid/late August. I currently live in Hebden Bridge, so we might have a few things to chat about. I moving to work in a university in Kuwait, have lots of info from expats to ease me into the life there, but a get -together would be a great idea. When I get a phone number and begin settling in, I'll get back in  touch here.
Cheers,
Gavin (flimsy)

Hi there!

I'm Giselle, I'm 25 years old, BS in Finance, I'm currently living in Philadelphia, PA in the US. I'm planning a move to Kuwait in the coming year, I'm planning on moving with my husband who is Kuwaiti. I currently work as an Catastrophe Modeling Analyst in Philadelphia, PA which is more of an actuarial role, hoping I could find a similar role in Kuwait as my company doesn't have any offices there to facilitate a transfer.

I'm hoping to meet friends, have networking opportunities, any hobbies recommended, job advice, anything really would help a ton; I'm even in the early works of learning Arabic to give myself a competitive edge over other candidates -so any guidance on any aspect of moving to Kuwait from the east coast of the US would be great.

Hope everyone else is assimilating well!

Warmest regards,

Giselle <3
