Hi katareacathie,

Holding back an employee against the person's wish would amount to human right violations / kidnapping / forcibly restraining a person / and more serious legal violations ...

If your embassy had been there in Muscat, you should have contacted them first. In the absence of one, please contact the Royal Oman Police and also the Ministry of Manpower for their immediate assistance.

The only option is for you to leave back something of value to you, as collateral with your sponsor so that he knows you are sure to return by the agreed date.

Go soft with your sponsor. Make him understand the situation you are in. Make him agree to let you go on a short leave so that you can return home to sort out and settle the unfortunate turn of events there.

At this stage, it is not feasible for you to resort to legal recourse like going to the ROP or to seek assistance from the embassy. Play your cards carefully so that you stand to benefit.
