What is KDN special visa?
Guys,
My employer told me that my visa (KDN special visa) is approved and again they are telling that it will take 2 more weeks to get the approval letter and later only I have to go for visa stamping. Please help me out.
Thanks in advance.
Chaitanya.
Sounds like the employer has got the Visa Approval Letter from immigration and is now applying for the single entry visa (Visa with Reference or VDR) which is a requirement for Indian nationals to enter Malaysia to take up employment.
You are responsible to get the VDR from one of the Malaysian consulates in Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi. Once it is stamped in your passport you can enter. http://visaapplicationmalaysia.com/indi … uired.html
How much time will it take for the single entry visa (Visa with Reference or VDR)?
Please help.
The guide time is always stated as "up to 4 weeks" (i.e. 20 days), but it can be as little as 10 working days if the volume of applications is low when submitted. Plus however long it takes you to get it stamped in your passport. If you check the link above, sometimes the original VDR approval is required, which would take longer time to mail to you. Otherwise, an electronic is acceptable.
A lot depends on the efficiency of the company making the application and whether they get the paperwork correct. They should have asked you where you will collect the VDR as this is needed for the application process.
Once the VDR is out I will go for stamping to consulate general of Malaysia, chennai.
Then what will the process and will one day is enough for the process there?
Check with the Malaysian consulate regarding their document collection time and if they return the same day if you are doing this yourself. http://www.kln.gov.my/web/ind_chennai/home
Check with the consulate for the payments you need to take with you as I think they may be DEMAND DRAFTS on certain banks. The link says the fee is INR 1000 but that is through an Agent http://visaapplicationmalaysia.com/indi … afees.html
You also need your flight ticket booked and issued.
Once you have VDR in your passport you can leave India. The VDR is valid for 3 months.
@Gravitas
I asked my employer for doing the stamping process in person and he is telling that it will take 3 days for that and confirmed flight ticket is mandatory?
Yes you need to show your flight confirmation plus other papers from your employer which they receive from immigration.
Hello Gravitas,
What are OSC Service Charges (4720/-) should be paid along with visa fee (1000/-) as mentioned in the below link?
http://visaapplicationmalaysia.com/indi … afees.html
Thanks in advance.
OSC is an Agent. If you use their services they charge a service fee.
But you don't have to use them or any other Agent. You can arrange the VDR yourself by going to the HC/consulate (Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi). Apparently the turnaround time is about 3 days if doing it yourself. (Check their individual document delivery/return times plus cost and how payment is to be made to them)
The visa fee everyone has to pay, in India, to get the VDR stamped in their passport.
Here is another Agent that partners with OSC. They seem to have collection points at
Consulate General of Malaysia, payable at Chennai Bangalore, and Hyderabad
High Commission of Malaysia, Payable at New Delhi Chandigarh and Kolkata
Consulate General of Malaysia, payable at Mumbai Ahmedabad and Pune

Yes they are different.
First get visa approval letter for Expat visa which is work permit.
KDN or VDR is single entry visa needed to enter Malaysia for working (can't enter on tourist visa).
1. Get visa approval
2. Get VDR approval letter
3. Arrange to collect VDR in passport in India
4. Enter Malaysia
5. Employer arranges expat work visa stamping in passport
Thank you so much for your help Gravitas,
As i informed my visa is approved and waiting for VDR approval letter.
I will keep u posted
No, not the approval process. There is no checker. But it can take up to one month in Penang from previous people posting on this forum.
If the employment pass has been approved then the VDR is automatically approved.
If the salary is 3000-4999 i.e. Category III there is a medical clearance required and if this is failed then there would be no employment pass approval.
My friend informed me that his visa is rejected so only asked.
As I got information from my employer that my visa is approved waiting for VDR but it is almost 15 days till now no information on that.
Thanks,
Chaitanya
It's probably going to b up to 20 working days for the VDR approval if applied for after the VAL (Visa Approval Letter). Some else recently spent 3 months getting VAL and VDR approval in Penang.
Yeah, immigration are tough these days.
Hi Gravitas,
Thanks for the immediate reply.
What is the insurance about in visa process?
I got an update from the employer that insurance is pending.
Regards,
Chaitanya.
No idea. Insurance not required for visa process. Employer has to provide medical insurance for employees
Gravitas,
Regarding tax for a foreign employee. I heard that it will be 28% upto 6 months and the same will be returned after 1 financial year.
Is that true?
If not please explain.

Yes, the tax whilst classified as non-resident i.e. first 182 days is a flat rate of 28%
No, only the difference between what a person would have paid as a tax resident and the 28% non resident rate will be refunded.
The refund will be made in April/May 2019.
The resident tax rates which are variable according to different stratas of salary can be found on Page 7 https://www.pwc.com/my/en/assets/public … ooklet.pdf
There is a RM9k per annum tax free allowance for tax residents.
@Gravitas
I have gone through the document shared for taxation.
Regarding visa,
single entry visa (Visa with Reference or VDR) is pending for the process. It has been almost 25 days waiting for that approval. Still how many days it will take for the approval?
I've heard it is about one month. But when the employer is in Penang things move more slowly. A recent member took 3 months to get VAL and VDR sorted.
@Gravitas,
I found the below link for tracking the employment pass status with IMM reference number and company registration number.
https://eservices.imi.gov.my/myimms/inqApplEmpPassSts
But, I am getting no record found the error by using this.
Am I doing the right way?
Several other people are reporting it isn't working

9th April 2018
The employment pass is the DP10/DP11 application
The KDN is the VDR (single entry visa required to enter Malaysia for work purposes)
Can't remember if you have the link for the ESD checker: https://esd.imi.gov.my/portal/application-status/
There is no checker for the VDR process.
Penang recruitments take a long time as everything has to be processed in KL
Gravitas,
I got the VDR today. For stamping process can I visit Consulate of General Malaysia, Chennai directly or should go through OSC or VFS Global?
You can gio directly if yyou want. It takes 3 days. Check what bank drafts are required.
