Best places to stay in Quito and Cuenca

As I posted before my wife and I will be visiting Ecuador in May. We are looking for great inexpensive places to stay while in Quito and while in Cuenca.

It appears that price is not the determining factor in how nice a property is and how helpful and professional employees are. Our only real requirements at this time is a website and the ability of the hotel/hostel to accept credit cards.

While in Bali a few years ago we stayed at a home stay and it was wonderful the family was great, friendly, and helpful. It was inexpensive but a beautiful property. Being experienced travelers we know there are hidden gems at the low end of the economic spectrum.
