Renting unfurnished

twirly

Looking at moving from Cyprus to Spain in the next year or so, and probably will need an unfurnished property. If the rental is listed as furnished, would some landlords unfurnish it? I have known it happen here in Cyprus if you don't like the furniture or you have your own.

Just don't want to make the same mistake as when we moved here from the UK - sold everything, thinking we would be fine with furnished, but then moved three or four times before finding the ideal place, but it was unfurnished so we had to buy a lot of stuff all over again (we had already bought bookshelves and other storage items, as most places are only furnished to a basic level, to say the least) - thank heavens for Ikea!

When we were house hunting we had a few owners and agents say they would be happy to take whatever furniture we didn't want out, even totally.  So yes its possible. Definitely worth looking at both and asking.

If you know you are going to be in the house a long time then having your own furniture and things is so much nicer.  And its easier if its ALL yours, less confusion!  Also very few places really seem to leave the sort of quality furnishings and fittings you might choose yourself.   It does seem harder to find places advertised as unfurnished though.  Given our time again we'd have gone unfurnished and bought our own as there are some great shops around once you get a chance to look.

Thank you, Chui2, that is useful to know.

Unfurnished is not so common here, either, but it does seem a lot more like home when you have your own things. And yes, the furniture provided in some places does leave a lot to be desired!
