German passport for babies born in Australia

Gigile

Dear all,

I am from Vietnam and my boy friend is from Germany. We are not married yet, but we already have a daughter together. She was born in Melbourne. We are both young professionals. I have visa 457 and my boyfriend has visa 485.

Is there any way I can still apply for a German passport for my daughter from Australia? She currently has a Vietnamese passport and she is in Australian under the same visa as mine - 457.

Thanks a lot,
Gigi

Welcome to the forum  :)

As the father is a German citizen your daughter should be able to get citizenship by descent and then a passport.

Your boyfriend should contact the German Embassy in Canberra as he will have to do the paperwork.

There is a German Consulate in Melbourne. A Google search will find contact details.

Dual citizenship is allowed between Vietnam and Germany.
