Initial queries related to relocation to Brighton, UK from India

Post new topic

Hi friends

I am considering an opportunity to take up an assignment from my current company (Indian IT services company) in Brighton, UK.

I did some basic internet search and got some info but have few initial questions in mind. Your answers will really help me:

1) Considering I get the minimum salary of 41.5k GBP, what will be my in hand salary per month / year considering various deductions, taxes etc. Don't know much about UK taxation.

2) What is the expected rent amount for a single person if I wish to stay in a small but furnished studio or 1 room apartment?

3) How are the Indian grocery stores and vegetarian food options in Brighton?

4) How is the public transportation in Brighton? Can one manage without a car?

5) Overall, what is the kind of monthly expenses one can expect considering the lifestyle is neither lavish nor too frugal?

6) How easy is it to find flat sharing options with other Indians?

7) Any good Indian tiffin / dabba services? (I was in sydney for a year and had plenty of options there)

8) Overall how big is the Indian population / community in Brighton?

9) My work location/client will likely be AMEX. How far is their office (IT) from the city center?

10) Anything else you feel significant, please feel to share.

Thanks.

Taxable Wage           £29,641    £2,470    £570

Take-home pay            £31,603    £2,634    £608

To get an idea on the cost of living, use the Numbeo website; this link will take you there.

Your office building is 15 minutes walk from the train station and seems to be pretty central.

I've no idea about Indian culture in Brighton, but a Google search brought up this link; a Google search for tiffin/dabba services brought up nothing, so you may have to cook your own lunch :)

Hope this helps.

Hi and Welcome :)

There is Indian Punjabi Society in the area > http://sussexindianpunjabisociety.com You would be best contacting them for social events etc.

There are a number of Indian and Asian grocery shops in the area. You won't have difficulty in finding other vegetable stores as all the major supermarkets have a good selection and of course there are independent ones.

Public transport in and around Brighton is very good, you can buy daily. weekly, monthly and yearly tickets.

Oh, and if you want to spoil yourself you won't have any difficulty in finding an Indian restaurant.

I hope this is of helps a bit more.

Hello Sau, Welcome to the UK.

The above information is authentic and accurate.

You have loads of questions and I suppose you have already decided to land in Brighton which is a very neat and clean city.

I suggest you could arrange a place to stay for your first one or two week and later find a lodging based om your budget and liking.

For food, I am afraid you will have to cook at home. Lots of Indian and Pakistani grocery  shops are there. Restaurants may not be good idea, firstly they are expensive and taste and spices are suited for North Indian/ UP taste.

Quite a few Indians and Pakistanis are there, majority of Indians originate from Surat and GuJrat therefore you will expect that region's spices and culture. :)
