We are planning to settle in Cuenca, Ecuador and will be making our first trip this July.

The biggest question I have right now is how to get a container in hassle free or as close to it as possible.  And what service to use.  I am coming from California.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!  Barbara

Barbara, My name is Tom Dravis.  Let me know if you get any responses from Ecuador.  I am visiting Ecuador in Nov and I am thinking of moving there myself.  My business is transportation.
Good Luck..Tom

I will!  I am going in July and hope to meet with people that can help to direct me.  I have read all the posts about shipping, etc. but nothing that give me a detailed list of what to do in what order and resources.  I have spoken with Charles Barrett but would like more info on those that help with the process.  Good luck to you too!

Hi Barbara,

We are former California residents, (Orange County), so wanted to especially help you out with what we have learned about shipping. Here are two websites to check:
brookfieldgrs.com   and internationalmoving.com. I think the international one proved to be the most helpful.
We just returned from Cuenca last weekend and found it marvelous and friendly.  We now live in Jacksonville, FL and can hardly wait to move there.  In fact, so much so that we are taking a 6 week conversational Spanish course at the local community college.
We found the weather ideal, the indigenous people very friendly and helpful and of course the prices of everything to be amazing.
By the way, we came into contact a most helpful person to aid us in such things as visas, finding a rental (at first), knowing which neighbor-hoods were the best. He seems to be "the Man" to know how to do anything. He charges roughly $10/hour to take you on a wonderful tour of Cuenca, and believe me when I say it is totally worth every cent.

His name is Juan Perez. His website is  cuencaecuadorservices.com. His email is "one4higher@yahoo.com"..If you email him tell him that Carole & Ray from FL were so happy with his services and wanted to pay it forward. And also that we connected to him via Terry and Lynn Neumann from Washington (the state).
Juan seems to know everyone and everything connected to Ecuador, primarily Cuenca. And he seems to be a "security blanket" for us, since he can cut thru all the red tape considered mandatory when you move out of the USA.
Anyway, I hope this helps you some. We plan to move there mid-October. We are in the process of renting our home and selling everything, including the furniture and our car.  You think driving in California is chaotic?  You "ain't seen nothin' yet"  lol

Carole
P.S.  My email is roadrunner393@gmail.com if you want to know more about what we found there.
