Sorry I meant no local plan also covers outside of the DR, Yes you can purchase international coverage via many carriers here.

Riva that plan covers you  up to 90 days in the year I believe and the coverage is for US 10,000 which is quite low but better than nothing!

Correct, travel insurance covers arround 10,000 dollars and as you said that is better than nothing, and about the duration of the plan is good for 12 months as my local health insurance is also Humano we get special discount and the cost is only 70.00 dollars, for non humano insurance card holders the price  is more expensive for the 12 months purchase.

planner

Please double check the policy.  It is  US 70 with the discount but I understand that it covers UP TO  90 days of travel in that  1 year period.

Thanks for the advise, very helpfull for me and that  works for me,  when I  travel most of the time is usually  2 time a year and no more than 12 days max each time,

GuestPoster258

Is your time out of a given country considered 'travel' and thus the 90 days are ticking away during that time?  Or is it only for days in transit?

Thanks in advance,

JR

planner

It counts your days travelling, from the day you leave, until the day you return normally.

And yes Riva this will work for you then!

Can I get some information for Humano insurance. I am looking to buy insurance for myself.

irieislandgirl

Hi Bob. Would like some information about Universal insurance, if you don't mind. Pricing myself some insurance.

Scorpiana

Bob-may I ask how much are you paying, for how many ppl?

Scorpiana

Julian, hi.
I see you were looking in 2018 and by now found a provider. May I ask who you chose and what cost are?
I’m coming next summer and need to resolve this very crucial piece of the pie!

planner

Bob is no longer active on the forums.

Next summer as in 2021 - you are too early to be looking yet.  Due to Covid we will see a change in insurance coverage and rates.  Things will be shaking out.

One change we know is coming: currently the price is set per person per month.  Soon various ages will have additional premiums - for example at age 50 there is an additional 20% added.

This is normal in North America.

Hola Planner,  we just secured health Insurance through ARS-Palic, as they were the most reasonable for what they provided.  We still have US coverage through my Retirement plan (my employer pays more then 50%), but I heard through the grapevine that coverage is going up due to COVID-19 issues...  so I may drop the US coverage soon.  We are very healthy and get all are medical services here now.
I find medical services here very good and lower then the co-pay amount in the US.  However I also was told it is better to get local insurance before you get too old or have health problems.  So we just got it.
We are a family of three, my wife and son.  I am below 65 and have legal residency, my wife and Son have both US and Dominican Passports. I actually added my 63 year old mother In-law to the plan at very little extra const, it was so reasonable.  I was also surprised they did not require a physical for anyone. However I saw where you said they did not provide good service.  Please explain, as now I am worried.

planner

Ok.  So right now almost no companies are requiring a medical due to covid risks.  So that is just timing.

Depending on the plan you are on companies are better or worse.  My experience is based on over 12 years having insurance here personally and having my group.  I can only tell you that my experience of Palic vs Humano and Universal is that the latter two were better.

Palic may have changed and improved, I don't know.  And often it can come down there knowing a specific person who helps walk you through everything.

Also be advised if the insurance is new it will not cover Covid

HokuMana

Thanks for your quick response...  I guess we will try out Palic and if it is a problem I'll contact you to switch before I'm 65.  By the way the person we worked with said after 63 (not 65) Humano and Universal are very difficult if not impossible to get.  And if you do they are very expensive.   Stay safe.

planner

That is not my experience at all.   Good luck and keep us posted!

Bob and Donna

Planning a move this year September I'm 69 and wife is 65 can you recommend a health insurance company that we can contact before our entry date?

Love this site, thanks to all.

planner

At this age the only company you can go to is ARS Palic.  The coverage is not good.

SurgeryBae

I am 41 and my husband 47. What are our options for health insurance please

planner

You have great options at your age.  Humano and Universal I consider the best. I have a group with humano.  Good quality coverage with dental and some. Prescription coverage is about US 50 each per month.

GuestPoster258

Hi, everybody.
Some weeks ago I tried to get information from Universal conc. health insurance, but I did not achieve to find quotes on their homepage. I sent two mails asking for a quote, but did not yet get any answer.

Would be grateful for a hint.

Best
Thomas

planner

If you go direct to  Universal this is how it will be.  You need to work with a broker

DominicanadaMike

Hi Thomas,

I will send you a Private message with some information.  I am sure you will be far more successful...

Cheers,

GuestPoster258

Ok. I was recommended to visit a broker directly in Sousua after my arrival, but this would mean, I have no health insurance during my trip down, as the german insurance ensd at the moment that deregister from Germany.

GuestPoster258

Thanks, Mike!!!

DominicanadaMike

You are welcome.  Don't worry that this broker is in SD.  Makes no difference as he provides the service you need...

I am in Punta Cana and this company is leaps and bounds better than several other insurance companies and brokers I have worked with here...

GuestPoster258

What does SD mean?

RockyM

SD = Santo Domingo

OK.

Darkremy

Hello,
Does Humano have a listing anywhere for local health insurance monthly rates, or must I contact them directly to get a price quote?

Oba711

I don't know where exactly you are located, I went directly to their office in santiago. It's modern and extremely efficient. Was able to sign up for coverage and out the door within 30 minutes. Pm me and I'll share with you the rates info given to me

planeteforest32

Thank you ... il am also interest...

Oba711

can't seem to place the price list at this time. However, they had 3 levels of coverage available superior, royal and max. I chose royal. I'm 58 years old I was charged 7100 pesos per 3 months. No questions about any pre conditions or anything

planner

Then you missed the questions because there are several. If you have pre existing conditions they will not be covered.

Oba711

Correct, I asked the agent about that. He stated after one year anything thing pre existing would be covered. My point for mentioning was that they never asked me about any.

planner

No that is absolutely wrong!!!!  There are about 7 questions about you and immediate family health history!

I would go back to Humano and ask the question.

If for example you have a heart issue and it's not disclosed and in future you need medical attention, they will know and will disallow any and all claims related.  That's not a nice surprise.

Obe Oba

That’s alarming to say the least. I absolutely will go back to inquire. I’m checking my policy here as we speak

planner

If I can help message me.

Julia Palumbo

@Bob K would you mind sending me the contact info for Universal, I've heard good things

Julia Palumbo

@planner hey! would you mind sending me insurance info, were both under 45

planner

I will message you privately with this
