how about flying a drone in vietnam

Post new topic

Hello, I'm planning to visit Vietnam in a month, as I have a Phantom3 drone I was thinking carry it with me, but may be it can represent a problem, acording with local regulations etc, using it and also passing it in the airport custom etc.
Do you know something about this?.
Of course I am speaking flying it, every time observing all the safety rules etc.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Shouldn't be an issue bringing it in. My buddy brought one in a few months back for a video shoot and he didn't get any look. Just don't fly that thing near any government or military installation and you're ok.

As drone is something sensitive to public security not only in VN but also in other countries, I think you'd better ask the authorities before flying a drone, which could help prevent you from legal trouble  ;)

Thanks you.

Leagally you can not fly a drone in Vietnam without approval of the Ministry of Defense. Not that they will not let you. They must  first school you on where you can and can not fly. Once you have done that and get the letter of approval from them your good to go.
Having said thst I know of people who disregard the law. And there was at least one I know of that was nabbed and summarily deported. Like in taken to the airport and put on a plane

Thank You very much.

I too brought in a drone with no problem. There is no prohibition against owning one. Simply restriction on where you can fly.

Thanks.

Drones are regulated pretty much the same as all other rules; very draconian, and never enforced.  :-)  Heaven help you if anger govt. authorities.  People have lost their visa/TRC's  due to flying over military airspace.  Drone flying is treated the same as a parade, or public demonstration.  You file  for permission in Hanoi, give them flight plan, intended purpose, and submit any video for review.  THEN, the application is sent to the local ward authorities affected by the flight plan.  Just be very careful.

It sounds like flying a drone is not impossible but that the red tape would make it impractical for the OP as he has indicated he will only be staying one month.  By the time you have chosen where you would like to fly, located the appropriate office (military?) and recruited a bi-lingual person to accompany you, and maybe been told to come back in a week for your permit, most of the month will be gone.
