Cynic
The weather here (North Yorkshire) for next week is temps between 20C>23C with rain Mon/Tue.  I can live with that.

What a shame! We’ve been waiting for rain for such a long time! Now we have plans to see the outdoor live music in Balatonalmadi and would be my husband’s first firework to see in Budapest, but the storm watch makes us rethink going to BP. I hate to even feel bad about it, because we need the rain so much. See what happens..,

Seems like bad timing.

It does seem dangerous. I guess that's the charm in the adrenaline for many people. I'm not big fan but I've heard it was supposed to be a big thing so many folks will be disappointed

I've seen the air show down the Duna many times. It's quite something. The highlights for me are the helicopter acrobatics and the airliner flying down the river.   All free of course.

The fireworks are a bit Marmite (take it or leave it) to be honest.  Parking is almost impossible in town the night of the fireworks and there are many road closures and police roadblocks. To avoid the traffic, we've watched from Normafa hill a few times but you cannot see the entire length of them, only the bit in front of the Parliament.

Weather is weird.  We've hard torrential showers this morning.  At least it means we don't have to water the garden.  It's certainly a change.  I believe this week, we'll be back into the 30s.
Livia Kretsch
30s again!? I am sure that the weather change ruined many vacationers beach plans, but what a relief!
I watched the air show on video a few years ago and it was so unbelievable when the planes flew under the bridges! After 9/11 it was amazing to see such events, to me it was a little wrackless, but so fantastic  at the same time.
SimCityAT
18°C today with the odd shower. Such a blessing after having a heatwave and the garden needed it badly.

It's already 24C here and creeping upwards.  The humidity is very high.  Quite uncomfortable actually.

Those pilots know what they are doing.  Apart from technical failure, there's actually very little risk.
fluffy2560
Just come back from dog walking with my eldest daughter.  It was weird - heavy rain going to the place, raining in the trees, not raining in the open areas and incredibly humid.  The dog of course ran through all the puddles and swam in the overflow areas/ponds they have along forest paths here.  So we've come back muddy and the dog has come back with wet dog smell.  Banned to the hallway until she's dried off and cleaned herself up.  No sense of decorum.

Clouds are coming back. Car said it was 24 C and the FWS (Fluffy Weather Station) shows only 21C, very high humidity, 4mm raid since midnight, light breeze.
Cynic
Currently 24C and has darkened over; forecast is heavy rain from now till midnight, then it clears and we have 21/22C for the rest of the week with broken clouds - nice.
Guest202225105
Shower rains in Göd, my spouse came back home wet as lungs. There was short period of rain in Budapest around 2pm, since then only clouds forming, few thunders heard. Humidity was crazy all day although temp stayed at solid 23°C. It's still a relief

Just about covers it.  It's stating the obvious to say weather is unpredictable but delaying the fireworks is hardly serious enough of problem requiring the sacking of the heads of the meteorological service.

I remember the times when we used to see graffiti oranges and bananas on buildings in Eastern Europe.  It was a symbol of the times.  Potentially we'll be seeing graffiti of clouds and lightning soon.  OV will have kittens if there's a rainbow in sight.

I don't remember the disaster of the 2006 fireworks.

Communist oranges are of course, lemons, which sums it all up pretty much.

We used to atttend the air show every year.
Skipped it lately, last time we both got a crick in our necks...
The Blue Angles are really an air show worth viewing.
We went to one of the Blue Angles shows back in Ca. in the 1980's.
Show was great as usual.
The bad thing was they also had amature and stunt pilots after the Blue Angles.
We sat in the bleachers, had a great view.
A large party of people sat behind us. They were so excited and chatty.
Seems one of the couples daughters was going to do some stunts for everyone.
They were all jazzed about it.
Happy for them, they were so proud.
Their daughter went up, did some loops and turns.
They were cheering away, we clapped.
Then.. POOF, a huge dust cloud hit the ground....
The screams from her parnets and friends was too hard to hear.
Everyone was shaking and crying. We turned to look behind us and I saw someone catch the women's mother who had about fainted. Had to look away, her pain was not suppose to be so public.
She crashed straight into the earth, hard. end of show.
Yes, those shows can end up badly and with so many people crowded right under where they fly over the Danube it will not end well if there is even one mistake.
Must of seen the Blue Angles fly 3 or 4 times, they always have the public watch from a distance just in case.

Shame about that plane crash.

The aircraft used in the display are well maintained but it's difficult to know if the pilots are too.

I remember flying with Malev and some of the pilots looked rather worse for wear.

I like the understatement:

.. “a factor of uncertainty inherent in the profession”.

Meanwhile there's, "a factor of uncertainty over the inherent mercurial political performances of certain Ministers"

That Minister is going to be the laughing stock and butt of so many jokes  this week.

Just more grist to the OV laughathon mill.

Yes, it was really sad, such a freak accidnet with her parents watching.
My brother and his wife are/were US airline mechanics.
His wife worked as a mechanic for over 40 years. Just retired because they gave her a good package if she retired due to the Covid thing.
My brother is still working for American Airlines.
He met his wife when he was a new hire after his co. was bought by US Air before American bought US Air.
These airlines change hands so often.
He thought she was so cute with her blonde hair and a grease gun in her hand on top of a wing.
Long story but he once told me he hates flying and that most planes leave mantaince with little more then a band-aid fix. They put stickers on things that need attention and they hope the next stop has time to fix them before the next flight out.
Scary really.
All I can say is he used to drive for days across country to visit people living on the west coast rather then jumping first class for free on his time off.
I did once ask him years ago to look at something under the hood of my Saab. He took one look and close the hood.
Saab make airplances before they made cars.
He loves being a mechanic, wanted to do that job since he was a young boy. The only job outside of the military that he ever had.In the military he worked on all the USAF jets.

Sounds a bit like Rosie the Riveter except on planes.

Like planes, I think most cars are driving with faults but are these faults actually dangerous?   Matter of how relevant it is. On the plane, if one of the lights doesn't work in the bathroom, it's not a serious matter.  If the window bolts are rusty and corroded, then it's a danger to life and limb.  Question is if your bro signs off his work, he's signing for all those souls on board too.

Military jets don't last very long in combat - just a few flights before they get shot down. I reckon a pilot's life expectancy at the start of a full on war would be measured in days.  Only basic maintenance would  be done and be getting the thing back in the air fully armed would be a top priority.  Not quite the same in the civilian world.

Probably diversionary tactics.

Get the population agitated about fireworks while energy policy looks non-existent.

I haven't heard anything about what the big plan is and as we all know, winter is coming.

Not like we've got our own private fire breathing dragons to snuggle up to.

24C today with light rain forecast for today and tomorrow; then a clear run through the Bank Holiday, which looks good for our local Festival (Leeds Festival); they are already queuing to get into the camping grounds.  Our son used to go to it, but he's since discovered women, got a mortgage to pay and is on nights for a few weeks.

I must be getting old, the only act I recognise is Arctic Monkeys, but they're local (Sheffield).

They'll blame the cold winter on someone else, I suppose. Once people get absorbed in complaints and negativity, it's hard to turn back

Mrs F reported a conversation with a less aware/analytical but OV oriented work colleague who is now saying  "they are lying to us".   So there's some trickle down now.  I'm thinking, No s**t Sherlock.  About time people woke up to the reality.

The government could have done it another rational way.  Rather than a very public finger pointing sacking, the person(s) who cannot control the weather, could have been put on administrative leave pending an review of the service.  Then they can just let it fade away or announce a meaningless reorganisation.

BTW, I've seen in the news  Germany has its 80%+ gas storage ready for winter.  Not seeing anything about Hungary. You'd think they would be at 100% given the Putler connection.

Looks like rain again.  Quite warm though, 25C.

If anything will make it rain, it's washing or doing anything like that to a car.   Forget about cloud seeding and rain dances. Just get the polish out.

No thunderstorm here but there are big hills (like 200m high) between us and town.  It could be nuclear war or a zombie apocalypse over there and we wouldn't know.

I've noticed washing that was drying outside was dry last night, but in my laziness I didn't bring it in.  This morning it was damp again. I can see the temperatures are dropping at night, condensation is appearing.  Days are shortening.  Only a few weeks ago, it was dark at 20h and now it's around 1930.   It still seems quite warm during the day though.   Mrs F says it'll drop a bit during the week but nothing really cold but more rain expected.  We're still watering the plants though.

Yes, summer is almost over for another year. I always think it's over when school starts again on 1st September. What a stupid day to start - on a Thursday. Should wait until Monday.  All the shops are full of school stuff.

And what a strange year it has been. I thought 2020 was odd, 2021 was a nothing year and here in 2022, we have even more weirdness. I'm hoping for better times in 2023.

BTW, you could go to Aquaworld and go on the slides. It's mostly indoors.  And if you go in the week, it'll be almost empty when schools are back on.

Cynic

Our last week before the schools go back, so the wife and I are taking advantage of the nice weather, 20C with broken clouds, to tidy up the front garden.  In the process, I've just blown up my electric hedge trimmers, can't complain, bought them in the Praxis in Holland over 20 years ago, luckily I've almost finished that bit, so will finish it by hand; will wait till the next Black Friday deal to get a replacement.

I've just repotted some greengage plants. We grew them from seeds. Our neighbour gave us the original fruit as they have a really nice greengage tree.  Our plants are doing well but it will take years to get to some fruit.

We make our own compost from vegetable matter and it's very rich.  We planted some celery in our compost and mixed in there must have been some melon seeds because only a few days ago, I noticed we've got hidden melons growing on our fence!

Our tomatoes are still going very well. Over production even. They aren't standard Euro tomatoes but very much homegrown with defects that need surgery but they taste fantastic.

If I had a hedge I'd do some controversial topiary designs.

I also want subsidised car washes to go with the low priced diesel/petrol.

They don't need meteorologists if all car washes are free anyway.

I also would like low cost wood so I can have a cosy fire in the winter.

Maybe Russia can provide some low cost wood through a new wood pipeline.

HIMARS is basically a truck mounted rocket-launcher; it fires the same rockets as the UK HMLRS (which is a tracked vehicle), just has less of a punch.  I guess it's similar to the German Nebelwerfer and Russian Katyusha systems which date back to the 2nd World War.  I was involved in the procurement of the UK system which was made in France in the late 1980s and spent some time there sorting out the logistics of it all.
