we have a Holly bush that I trimmed in the shape of a German Army coal-scuttle helmet.😂

-@Cynic

Ooo....interesting.  Maybe a Javelin next time? Or a HIMARS?

Strange you mention that helmet, I was pondering watching Downfall again - about Hitler's last days in the Bunker. I was thinking if I could learn anything which would parallel Putler's current situation.

-@fluffy2560
HIMARS is basically a truck mounted rocket-launcher; it fires the same rockets as the UK HMLRS (which is a tracked vehicle), just has less of a punch. I guess it's similar to the German Nebelwerfer and Russian Katyusha systems which date back to the 2nd World War. I was involved in the procurement of the UK system which was made in France in the late 1980s and spent some time there sorting out the logistics of it all.
-@Cynic

Getting off topic from your topiary projects.

I remember that name Katyusha. Always thought it should be the name of someone's Grandma or grand daughter.

HIMARS is a bit different as it has guided shells. The rocket based ones with the 300km range would be significant game changer. Even though the USA said they haven't provided those shells, I am not so sure.  Hitting Crimea from such a distance could only be the UKR Neptune missile or HIMARS long range.

The thing that took out the Al Qaeda bloke in Kabul a few weeks ago was something else. It was like a shell with metal knife blades attached to it. Ingenious but deadly. Bet he didn't see that coming - precision weapon.  Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

One of my correspondents told me UKR is building wooden HIMARS launchers to fool the Russians. And Russia is sending in their supersonic missiles to blow them up.  They will run out of ammo.  Russians have inflatable S300 air defence decoys.  Plenty of YouTube videos on that.

Is it in the air today? I watch the rise of evil - Hitler's way to power

It was supposed to be on Netflix earlier this year but I cannot find it.  I had to obtain it another way.  I have seen it and it's a great film - a classic.  And Bruno Ganz (RIP) was one of my favourite European actors.

fluffy2560

It was nice earlier but now it looks cloudy name with a feel of rain in the air.  Of course, it happens when I want to mow the grass.  It's 25 C, dark clouds gathering, slight breeze from WNW, 1.4 m/s.  Humidity 50%. My other planned job of moving our compost heap might be delayed.

fluffy2560

Today I moved my compost heap.  It took about 5h to move it.  Gave me a chance to fully turn it over and mix it all up and get all the rubbish out.  Looks like it's very nice compost.  We can finally do something right in the garden.  I moved the compost heap to make way for my rainfall harvesting system.

It was hot working out there, 27 C at least, middling humidity, hardly any breeze though.

Rain expected tomorrow,

Marilyn Tassy

Got up early to go swimming, weather looked overcast when we got up.

Rain expected but so far clear skies.

Hope I have a few more open air swim days left this year.

Just can not trust the weather reports.

I had a discussion with my siblings about getting Alexa for my Dad. He can just ask it questions and not need computer knowledge. It might be amusing for him but also in a way, some company one might say. My bro had road tested it and said it could confuse him as it often gets things wrong. My Dad is getting muddled up occasionally, And if Alexa says the wrong thing, it could be a serious problem. Google gets things wrong on search terms all the time and shows you rubbish.  We've got judgement to know it's wrong but less tech-savvy old folks might not.

Reminds me of those morons who drank fish tank cleaner because Donald Trump told them it had potential as a COVID cure. Very dangerous.

It's really nice now, 28C and a nice breeze.

Dog walking for me this afternoon.

I should be working but finding hard to even think about getting in the swing of things again.

Heavy rain expected early evening but like you said, not sure forecasts are reliable.

Marilyn Tassy

Next forcasted nice day, I'm swimming, rain , wind or wild horses!!

fluffy2560

Torrential downpour this afternoon with 6mm of rain.

I was lucky I didn't get caught out in it.

Now it's cooler, 20 C and really humid - 88%.

Perhaps not warm enough for swimming outside.

Guest202225105

Heavy storm and rain over here (north-western Slovakia) with 9mm of rain, humidity 92%, around 18°C

Same kind of thing here.   We're having heavy showers since about 1630h.

At least I don't have to water the plants.

I now wish I'd had forced myself to swim yesterday since the rain didn't come until early evening.

My husband always tells me I'm too thin and will catch a cold.

Looks like nice walking weather today.

fluffy2560

Strange days - too cold to be mid-September.  Raining too much as well.  Only 10C.

2.5mm rain since midnight, fair breeze 3 m/s from WNW, high humidity and some UV.

Sunrise: 06.26h,  Sunset: 18.49h

In about 3 weeks, we seem to have lost about 20 minutes of daylight.  We only have about a month before the clocks go back!  And then it's the long haul until Feb/March before light/sun/warmth reappears.

I wondered if they wouldn't change the clocks to save energy.

There's  discussion going on that the half-term school holidays 29 Oct - 6 Nov might be cancelled and the week shifted to the Christmas/New Year period in order to save energy.

Not putting the heating on just yet, a blanket will do watching TV. But yes we have pretty much the same a lot of rain and 11°C.

At least its dry in London.

Yes, surprisingly sunny day in London.  The event is being well covered on the BBC web site. Logistics are massive. I reckon the cost of it all could be £60M or maybe more. Never to be seen again in our lifetimes perhaps. Unless Charlie checks out early.

I feel sorry for those blokes carrying that coffin. Apparently it's lead lined and is extremely heavy. They looked like they were really suffering.  Whopping number of sailors dragging that gun carriage too. Apparently it's pulled by people because at Victoria's funeral, the horses were sliding on the cobbles.  Good to see the RCMP (Mounties) leading the procession. I presume they brought the horses with them from Canada.

What a spectacle!

I have SKY, I counted in the end 22 channels covering it. In English, French, Italian, German and Chinese.

But the number of people that came from around the world would have brought in a fair bit of money.

Posted here as not about the weather....;)

Been kind of fed up with the weather today. Was bitterly cold this morning, 8°C so I set off to go to the post office to collect a letter and then to my coffee shop for morning coffee. It soon brightened up and we had 15°C. Nearly impossible to read my tablet sat outside I came home. Just as well because the heavens opened up.

Still warm, all its has done is get bright with strong sun and then rain. Sun and rain.

Now 13°C and bright.

It wasn't bad earlier on with some sun but now we've just had a bit of drizzle. And I left the washing outside to dry some more. It was almost completely dry.  It'll probably end up in the dryer now. I want to fix my guttering but it keeps raining.  Needs some new brackets and downpipes etc.

Black clouds heavy with water right now, only 11 C and a tad under 1mm of rain today in total. Bit of breeze from the NW, 1.5 m/s. Sunset at 18.47h.  It's like the shortening days are speeding up.

Struggling to decide if I should work or watch an old movie.

fluffy2560

Cleaned out my shed gutters yesterday.  I was very surprised how much rubbish was in them.  All of it was from the neighbours trees and was turning to earth.  The downpipe was quite blocked.  A broom handle rammed up and down sorts that out.   The rain should wash any dregs out onto the ground ready for tidying up.    I don't recall ever tidying up the gutters to that extent before.  I think I will need to replace the entire kit and caboodle as all the brackets are rusted away.  Shed roof needs replacing really as all the wood is rotten and the roof panel nails rusty and coming out.

We are supposed to be having a mini-heat wave.  Mrs F said some HU places will have up to 24 C.   The days continue the endless grind to less daylight as we circle the sun, sunset today 18.38h.   But temperatures right now, not bad at a touch under 18C.  Fair breeze from ESE at 3.5 m/s.  Bit of UV at 2.6.

It's pretty gloomy in Budapest today, with light rain, not too chilly though

Guest202225105

Looks like another gloomy rainy day in Budapest. The forecast promises some thunderstorms in the afternoon as well.  Ideal day for a good book

There's supposed to be  a gap where it will be warmer and sunny this afternoon.   Not bad for dog walking.

The days are so short these days.  It'll be dark about 18.30h today.  And it's not long before clocks change. :(

I asked Alexa will it rain today?

Her reply was "it probably won't there is a 60% chance at 11pm" while it was pissing it down.

No idea where it gets its forecasts from 🤣

🤣🤣 I use the app and it's usually quite accurate but sometimes it shows beautifully sunny while it rains cats and dogs outside

Have you tried asking it more complicated questions?

Like what is the answer to life, the universe and everything?

If Alexa says 42, then it's a genius!

Alternative question might be, why are Wizzair planes always so late arriving and departing?

Cannot beat the Mk 1 eyeball for looking at the weather.    I wish I was better at guessing the cloud types.  At the moment, it's just one cloud but it's everywhere.  And heavy and black too.

SimCityAT

What a depressing day, it has rained none stopped, misses keeps on saying shall we put the heating on and I say no we haven't gone into minus numbers yet.

I think that rain is coming our way.

It's very windy here but mostly sunny. We're expecting rain at 15h and I can already see the clouds forming up.

I took the Dogmeisterin for a 3km walk in the forest this morning. It wasn't that warm as it was shady but when I came back I did some basic car checks like the oil, a few repairs on the car tailgate and some minor gardening - weeds seem to grow regardless.

It was very pleasant outside in direct sunlight. It must have been 17-18C. In fact, we had to have the windows open a bit to freshen things up. It was getting a bit warm inside even without heating.

It's 16C at the moment.

I've got outside jobs to do next week so I hope things keep nice most of the time.

I was just thinking that!

Maybe they can go to the UK to work for the new PM and Chancellor (UK's finance minister).

They can make random predictions and policy based on the cloud patterns!

Few more delayed fireworks and they all might as well relocate to the UK

fluffy2560

Nice weather will probably last until Wednesday. It could reach 19C during the day this week.

Today (Sunday) I had to put my shorts on again for walking the dog at Hármashatár-hegy Airport. No need for a coat or light jacket. Very nice and sunny but too many people.  The gliders and para-gliders were out in force.

After Wednesday, it's probably downhill all the way.

fluffy2560

Really cold at 1C with significant wind meaning wind chill of -3C.

It will be raining most of the week and when it's sunny, it'll be below zero.

Hats and gloves required.

It's not too bad if you are working outside with decent jacket and gloves.

On the other hand, construction work at Fluffy Towers has turned the garden into a mud bath.

fluffy2560

Not too bad today, 6C with a bit of wind giving a chill of 4 C.

Heavy frost overnight, on the cars and on the ground.

Quite blue skies with high clouds.

Everyone has a cold here so no-one is going out anywhere except Mrs Fluffy.   She wants to wash the dog. Dog shampoo is difficult so had to get baby shampoo which also difficult.
