Hi there, first of all I want to declare that I tried my best to search related terms on this forum about GOSI and couldn't find the details I wanted. So I am creating this new post. If this is the duplicate one for previously discussed things, please post the link here, I appreciate it a lot. And if this is the original one, we have much scope of discussion.
All I understand about GOSI is, it is deduction in monthly pay for social security, against being aged, disability, unemployment etc. For natives, 19% of monthly salary is to be paid, 12% from employer and 7% from employee while for expats like us it is 4%, 3% by employer and 1% from employee. The difference here between locals and expats is because locals get more advantage of this scheme, like pension and unemployment funds etc. The questions banging my brain, which I could not satisfactorily find are

1) What expats get by paying GOSI? What is included and what is not?

2)Is it mandatory? Can I opt for not receiving any advantages provided by GOSI and not paying for same?

3) My employer is deducting different amount everytime for GOSI, how GOSI payments can be calculated?

4)How I get receipt or confirmation of my GOSI being paid on time?

5)I read somewhere about Indemnity, which is on regular deduction of  GOSI at the end of contract period while leaving Bahrain, employee needs to be paid by his/her employer, what is the practical reality of that? Does it exist? What is the exact amount and if suppose your employer don't pay you that, what are options? And if you break contract or change employer what happens to Indemnity?

Sorry for long post. Though this issue is not a big deal, I like to get to know these kind of stuff. Any information is appreciated.

As far as I know:

1) Practically speaking, only unemployment insurance and / or support during work related injuries.  For unemployment, if you have worked with an employer for 12 months and are made redundant and register with GOSI immediately after the fact, then you could be eligible for 6 months support as per the law.  But there are lots of ifs and buts and I have hardly ever heard of an expat getting this; read the law:

2) The payment is mandatory for companies who fall within the umbrella of the law.  However, generally, as practice in multinationals, GOSI for expats is paid by the company e.g. I never paid GOSI and the company paid on my behalf.  But a lot of companies pay and deduct which is justifiable by law

3) Read the law; the payment is a %age of the salary registered with GOSI

4) You can track the payments on the SIO website.  Login using your ekey in the employee section

5) You need to be clear about this.  The GOSI deductions are made from the salary of local Bahrainis and expatriates both but the GOSI deductions will only be paid to the Bahrainis after their retirement or being fired from their job while for expatriate employees there is the provision of indemnity in the Labor Law of Bahrain.  If any issue, you need to file a case against the employer in labour court.  The calculation of indemnity has been discussed many times on these forums - use the search button

This is the Bahrain forum and this thread is about GOSI in Bahrain.  I assume you are referring to Saudi?

If so, you need to post on the Saudi forums.

Hi brother,
I have been in Bahrain since 6 months . My registered salary in Gosi system is 150 and my actual salary is 400. My company tried to update it online but system didnt allow to raise that much percentage, now i requested my PRO to update it manually by submitting the form. How many days will it take to update. Please guide as I have to apply my wife's visa aswell.

It will depend on your PRO, usually the same day else it may take time.

Thanks for your guidance, I asked my pro he said , it till take may be a week or two. Should i apply wife's visa in between or wait for updated gosi salary?

Wait for updated GOSI salary.  Unless that shows, LMRA will return application.  Or apply manually showing evidence of documents filed with GOSI.

I was an expatriate worker in Bahrain in the late 80's and worked in Xerox and Bahrain Petroleum Company from 1986 to 1990. I left in 1990 and migrated to Australia. When I left Bahrain I did not apply to get my GOSI from Bahrian.

Can some please advise if it is possible to get my GOSI after such a long time i.e almost 30 years. If so what kind of documents I should have to make an application. All I have is reference letters that the companies gave me when I left.

Read what I wrote above.  If you are an expat, you don't get payments from GOSI - only locals do.   You get indemnity instead when you leave job.  And if you didn't get indemnity, after 30 years, it would be very difficult to prove your case.

I have single status visa ....but since my salary is 400, my company agreed to apply for my family visa on my expense for visa and tickets....I am paying gosi 4 bd from my salary every month...once family visa is ready will I have to pay gosi for my family also and how much

If salary became 4000 bd you will pay 16 bd monthly

Gosi is employee related, nothing to do with family visa.
