I only have a protocol number, still waiting to receive my RNE

Frednew

Hi, sorry if there is a thread like this already, I couldn't find it.  :)

I only have a protocol number at this stage, still waiting to receive my RNE.
My mother is getting married, I would really like to be there. I was wondering if anyone has traveled back home with having just a protocol number? Where there any problems re-entering Brazil?

I remember the Federal Police telling me I can travel with my protocol number and will go ask again just to be 100% sure, but I was just wondering if anyone has done it and what their experience was.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you are but up in the north it only takes about 2-3 months to get your RNE,  less if you had one before.
Every since BR streamlined the process it's a lot faster.  I waited almost a year back in 2005.
Yes your protocal # gives you the same benefits as if you had your RNE already.  You can work, you can come and go, etc.

I believe you can. That said I would go to PF and ask and advising them as to your plans. Are you still on a visa? I went to US and back while waiting on RNE (old regulations) which took time

do you have your picture on the protocol or just a bar code ? i believe the new protocol comes without a picture on it.

please answer if you can travel with a protocol without a hassle if you dont have a picture on it.

can you stay abroad until the last expiration date of protocol or is it a time limit with the protocol ?

please shed some light, thank you so much

Sure you can travel in Brazil with a protocol, but internationally they require a Visa. Even with RNE I need to show Visa and RNE. Some airlines do not have the experience people on the front line and may request a Customs/Immigration agent for help.
Showing an expired Visa and the permeant RNE card will work, but protocol only is risky.

I had a protocol and traveled back to USA 4 times. American airlines didn't understand it until a supervisor was called but though difficult passed through the airlines. I had my 5 year visa but refused to use it because it may compromise my protocol. As far as the federal police at the airport there is no problem with the protocol. Since got my permanent residence and just renewed after 10 years don't need to renew anymore indevinido
